Before i got any answers on this post i got this reply on another forum.........has this user just had problems or is this the norm for this motherboard.

SIGH.............

Ok I have a 3200+ OC'd in this rig. I run the bios version 1006 and use the 6.65 drivers.

Here's the tips I know when installing this system.
When you get your board with 1001 install XP.
Then install the drivers on the CD. This will resolve a ACPI dll that 6.65 doen't know about.
Reboot.
Upgrade to ver 1005 or greater. Good luck there are several threads on Anandtech and Asus website that have info on 1008 and up.
Uninstall all the Nvidia drivers.
Reboot.
Install 6.65 or 6.66 drivers.
Reboot.
Install video drivers.
Reboot.
Install all the XP updates.
Reboot several times.

Finally work on OCing your system if you want.

Good luck if you own this board.
If you are looking for a board go get the BFG one or something else.
I'm looking into getting another mobo+cpu combo. Preferrably BFG or DFI if you want to OC.

THANK YOU.

If you stop shouting and do a little reading maybe you find answers.

Anyway, I will still try and help: Some people have reported that 4 sticks causes ram to drop speed to 333 instead of 400, while some people do not seem to have problem. Perhaps is ram type dependent. Asus manual/website has list of approved ram combinations I think.

Yo Sandeep.
Corsair is supported on my asus mobo manual, ie, Value select, and it says that it will "support 4 modules inserted into the blue and black slots as two pairs of dual-channel memory configuration".....but how do I tell whether it will default to 333speeds or not?

Sorry, but I don't understand what you are asking ...
If I get you right: put the bios file to a floppy then reboot, during POST press ALT+F2. Done.

Tonight I put a Zalman NB-32J on my A8N-E, and with a single 120mm Panaflo L @ 7v, it works fine. Doesn't get scalding hot at all, but it does get pretty hot (I'd say in the 65-70c range) and that's after 2hrs of F@H, plus like 7 other IE windows, MSN, and a couple other programs running. Side cover isn't on the case, but I never really noticed much temp diff with it on or off.

But I'm comfortable in saying that the machine is solid with that HS.

I shoudl also add the rig is OC'd to 2.3ghz, ~250x9, 3x HTT, with the memory @ 400mhz.

Any one else having problems getting to ASUS downloads? I haven't been able to get in for over a week.

When I click on NA and then click DOWNLOADS I get a window that says "all connections busy, try another location" and all four of them give me the same busy message.

I even tried going into the Members Area and it say "all connections are being used"

I am trying to get some updates and can't even see what's new.

Some people like the unofficial 6.67 nForce drivers, which seem to resolve the IDE issues, but I will wait till release from nVidia.

How do I check if I have those installed?

Uninstalling NAM helped me out, the file corruption problem disappeared.
I have now another problem, with oc the processor. In my board there was originallly the 1006 bios. it didnt alowed oc my processor, i didnt workd at any fsb etc.... after i flashed in the 1008 bios and after it , it allowed to overlock! i used it at 8.5*300 with 1.5 voltage, maybe i could have reduced the voltage to under 1.5 v, but it was good also so i didnt want to give a try. So it was stable at 2550mhz, prime run for a few hours, games very perfect etc.... yesterday there was a little accident in my pc. the potmeter which i tryed to use to reduce the 12 cm ventillator's speed, was smoked, there was a small sparkle, it frightened me a lot. i turned off my comp at that moment, everything is ok in my pc. but after that my pc didnt worked with this poiting that i figured out in the first part of my reply. so i cant oc my processor just when i had the 1006 bios in my board. i flashed again the 1008 than the 1010 beta and there is no change. i have no idea what can couse this, and why, i saw that this e6 processor can be overclocked easily but now i cannot find what i changed in the bios or somewhere, to allow to oc it again.
anyone who has an idea about this problem?

Hey Man,
It's good to see that there is someone who is having success amidst a sea of problems...
I admit I am having trouble OCing my sytem also. How did you get the PCI and HT to unlock? Also, what kind of memory timings are you running? Basically, what did you do to get your A8N-E mobo and 3000+ to run 300FSB and stable? Thanks Alot to anyone who replies to this post. May the force of be with you all.

PS. I have latest 6.66 chipset drivers and 1010 Bios installed.

NAM=Network Access Manager. During installation of nVidia chipset drivers it asks whether you want to install this and firewall. You say no. To find out what you have installed, as a previous poster said, run add/remove programs and nVidia's installer. It will also give you various options there, including IDE driver. Ncq is relevant only to SATA-II. Device Manager>IDE Controllers>NVIDIA SATA controller>properties.

Well,I personally didn't have any problem oc'ing this board and in fact oc'ing was a unbelievable pleasure with this board that does not carry any claim.I've seen many people having problem lowering their HT ratio; If you're among them try flashing your bios in dos as it my resolve your issue.selecting 33.3 in the bios for pci bus fixes it to 33.3 that's another necessity for successful oc'ing. After fixing pci bus and lowering HT ratio to 3x I tried the following settings and my system is rock-solid for weeks:
Win xp sp2-nForce 6.66
-venice 3000+ E3 1.8@2.56(300x8.5)@1.425v-HT ratio of 3-
-2x256 crucial value DDR400 ram set to 333-3-3-3-8 operating at dual channel @1T@2.8v
that equals to DDR466
-Hitachi SATA2 80GB HDD-Sapphire X550-...

While oc'ing try scaling up gradually, checking stablity after making each change...
This is all I can say, good luck.

Have you seen that Asus had deleted the latest beta bioses from their websites (1009beta, 1010beta) ?

Strange ...

Nope, theres's no serial port on this mobo.

I have a freaky problem with this board, it loses my SATA HDD in windows after gaming or 3D applications. I have the HTT frequency at 265 currently, but i have locked my PCI at 33.3MHz, any suggestions on what could be wrong?

Unfortunately, for the purpose I need the serial port for, I've been told to stay away from those usb to DB9 adaptors.

I knew most laptops don't have serial ports but figured mainstream mobo's would. Oh well, live and learn.

I could have sworn that there was a header on the board, and a PCI plate with serial port and cable attached to it...

I recently built a system with an A8NE-FM/S motherboard. Since it isn't listed on ASUS' site, and no bios seems to be available for it specifically, I'm wondering if I can use A8NE bios updates.

My bios specs: Phoenix Award Bios CMOS v6.00PG, A8NE-FM ACPI Bios Revision 1004, 3/10/2005.

Good/Bad Idea?
