Should i flash the bios? Can it have something to have with my hard drive is sata II? Can anyone help me?
Thank you

While I don't know what your problem is, here's the steps I'd follow to try and resolve it:

0) Start over...

1) Flash the BIOS to 1005. That BIOS sucks for overclocking, but it seems stable enough otherwise. Leave all BIOS settings to "auto" for now - perhaps only upping the DDR voltage to 2.75.

2) When installing WinXP, ensure that the nvidia IDE drivers are installed during the installation. To do that, when the WinXP CD is first booting, it will show a message on the screen to press F6 (I think) to install extra drivers. This is the time to press the key, and be prepared with a floppy that has nvidia's IDE drivers on it. (Take a look at the FAQ's on the ASUS site for info on how to make that floppy.)

3) It's also useful if the WinXP install CD already has SP2 slipped in...

On an A8N-E you don't need to load the nVidia drivers on floppy, however.

I'm running a 20 pin Antec SL350S with a 3200+ and a 6600GT, if that helps as a point of reference. All my voltages look stable.

Also, on the NB issue, I've got an NV Silencer 6 on the card, which unfortunately, leaves almost no clearance, more or less ruling out passive cooling. I've seen pictures of a hack one guy pulled off using a slightly smaller Zalman NB HS, cutting out a notch in the Silencer to make room for it, that actually looks pretty decent, but I'm not sure how comfortable I feel taking a dremel to my week old $30 VGA cooler at this point.

I'm also considering the Vantec Iceberg option, as I think there should be enough clearance for it. At any rate, I'm just wondering abot what the approaches I might take to this are. Anyone else in a similar situation?

You can change the DDR voltage in the Advanced > JumperFree part of the BIOS, if I remember the location correctly. That is a great name and since you are from Portugal, maybe you can tell me if my attempted auto-translation feature is producing readable Portuguese on these pages?

The page for AMD64 processors and the page for general antivirus configuration are also up. I don't know any languages except English and a little Spanish, so it's difficult to know whether the result is good or not

I just bought a A8N-E and am planning on putting a Venice 3200+ and OCZ Gold Series Dual Channel 2x512mb RAM

Is anyone able to help me with overclocking it, or do you have any links of anyone with this same setup that has already posted a walkthrough.

I am very new to this, and don't really care to learn about overclocking, I just want to know the settings, it seems like there are so many.

Maybe I missed it skimming over this large thread, but can someone tell me the maximum vDimm on the A8N-E?

I am having major issues with my A8N-E. It likes to randomly shut down which is annoying. Also sometimes when it boots or I reboot the system I get a "Bios Checksum Error". It then asks for a floppy with awdflash.exe on it.

I have uppped the voltage on the memory, flashed the bios to the beta versions but nothing seems to fix these issues. Dont know what else to try to fix this. Maybe I should just RMA the board.

posted this in the sli mobo thread before saw this thread
PSA
on the 8n-e mobo I rec'ved from AMD techtour
the the rev. 2 factory a8n-e hsf with ASUS on 2 sides has the pink TIM still intact and regular paste is gooped on top of that with a slim plastic shim for a spacer ...:ymmv but personally I'd check any before using in this state

The random shutdowns is likely your RAM, or PSU. Try loosening your RAM timings, and, or up the VDIMM, and see if that helps the situation. If you have another PSU you can try, I'd do that also. As far as the Checksum error, maybe they shipped the board with an old, or faulty battery?

ScrapSilicon, Mine came exactly like that. I cleaned everything off, and applied AS5.

I did buy an NB47J for my screaming NB cooler, but it turned out my graphics card was in the way. So now I have a Zalman Fanmate 2 attached to it. It's the revised cooler model (I got a rev. 2 board) but it's still the loudest fan in my case when it's running at 5000+ RPMs. Using the Fanmate, I can adjust it to around 3400 RPMs, where it's still audible, but much more bearable than before.

Do you guys think this is safe in the long run?

Edit: Moved generic OC question to seperate thread.

It's "safe" as long as the fan keeps running. I'm not sure how much faith I would put in any stock cooler from ASUS.

I have no experience, because my NB47J fits fine, but would something like this fit without interfering with your graphics card?

I think that would fit just fine, but unfortunately I can't find that in shops anywhere around where I live (Denmark). I can only find 40mm Pabsts which I don't know anything about. Guess I'll keep looking ...

You could always get the NB47J, and take a few of the HS fins off (if you're into custom modding). That's really only a small custom mod.

I was having a strange problem with this board, but I figured it out myself. I set the CPU bus to manual, but it was ignoring all the BIOS settings and booting up with either 201 or 216 Mhz bus. The POST screen would say the speed I selected in the BIOS, but once I booted into Windows, Linux or memtest it would say 2010 or 2160 Mhz. I finally tried enabling the floppy in the BIOS (system has no floppy drive) and it worked. I tried both the 1005 and 1006-3 BIOS. I have a feeling it's the ASUS CPR, but documentation on that feature isn't very clear.

It's just one way of knowing where the owners of A8N-E should go and make them laugh eventhough they have problems with the mobo. See how this thread grew.

Well, so far so good. I'm still a bit nervous when I'm gaming and tend to crank up the RPMs a bit, but I haven't seen any instability at all. How would a very hot (but not damaged) NB act anyway, if it became too warm? I suppose lock-ups and BSODs.

Any one have issues with the VCore voltage ? I set it at 1.475 @ 235 FSB and the ASUS utility and CPU-Z shows it as 1.52 Volts. I am using 1005 BIOS. OCZ 520W powersupply.

I don't have any stability issues, but the extra voltage concerns me.

The voltage problems should be worked out with a new BIOS (however, I do not know which BIOS will be fixed)

FWIW AMD has released a barrage of new cores lately, and I think MB manufactures are having a hard time playing catch up.

Hi everyone! Im new here
I have a Asus A8N-E motherboard and right now the fan is very annoying. Earlier today I opened the PC and put my finger on the motherboardfan just to hear the difference, wow! The PC was totally quiet. I really want to replace that fan. A NB47J doesnt fit because my graphicscard has a, I think it is a Zalman fan, who is in the way and I dont want to mod it. So Im thinking about to replace the fan with a ADDA 40mm fan who runs at 14db, Im still going to keep the plate that the stock fan is running on, just replace the fan. What do you think about that? I´ve heard about another guy who did it and it worked fine but what do you think?

Looking at the stock heatsink (old and louder version) that I took off of my A8N-E, I could see that it would probably be feasible to mount another fan in place of the original one, though due to the design of the heatsink, the new fan would most likely have to sit on top of said HS, and might still interfere with the graphics card. You should see how tall the 40mm fan you plan to use would be, and then measure over the current NB HSF, to make sure that your planned replacement fan would fit.
