While I don't know what your problem is, here's the steps I'd follow to try and resolve it:
0) Start over...
1) Flash the BIOS to 1005. That BIOS sucks for overclocking, but it seems stable enough otherwise. Leave all BIOS settings to "auto" for now - perhaps only upping the DDR voltage to 2.75.
2) When installing WinXP, ensure that the nvidia IDE drivers are installed during the installation. To do that, when the WinXP CD is first booting, it will show a message on the screen to press F6 (I think) to install extra drivers. This is the time to press the key, and be prepared with a floppy that has nvidia's IDE drivers on it. (Take a look at the FAQ's on the ASUS site for info on how to make that floppy.)
3) It's also useful if the WinXP install CD already has SP2 slipped in...
