I havent modded my sapphire yet since my pc isnt connected to internet yet. It will be in a few weeks. Now my x800 standard and oc'ed is capable fine. Memory divider will not be able to run @ 333 mhz, since that'll be above 250 mhz effective bandwith and my mem only goes to 210 or 215 or something. That's low i know but with 9x312 it suffizes perfectly and i've got the best value for money system possible almost. My x800 will be modded soon but on the internet there are enough stories about the mod so let's not go offtopic here. So evryone had the problem and bios update will fix it for sure?

Hey newcomer,Updating to more recent bios resolves the issue.however, sticking ram to anything other than 333 & 400 sucks on my board,I wish you don't have such problem.one last hint is to go with crucial value rams as they are capable of DDR500 easily.did you mod your x800GTO2 to 16 pipelines? let me know as I'm considering it as an upgrade.
It doesnt suck at my place, i can put it on 333 @ 200 mhz effective dual channel and that is exactly just as well performing as 266@ 200 mhz effective due to highter oc'ed FSB. they will be the same if u keep the effective bandwith at the same frequency. U'll probably be running a lower effective memory speed with 266 and ur cpu top frequency is probably not able to make up for the loss.

That's why i went for the certainty of buying a second hand of one of the first 3000+'s. 210 mhz on the memory and 2808 mhz on the cpu combinated with 3x multiplyer will result iin maximal value for money. Combinate it with a x800 @ x850 xt (maybe PE) and u'll have the ultimate value for money gaming system.

I'll try the bios update soon though my floppy drive doesnt seem to work yet. Anyone got tips on how to get a floppy drive to work. Everything in my install went perfect. Power is on the floppy drive and the FDD cable is connected properly. It still isnt shown when booting in bios. is there any driver necessary or something?

I was wondering if anyone knew a way to control the chasis fan rpm's on the motherboard? speedfan doesn't and Q-fan doesnt let you set the rpm's as far as I can see. Is there software that will, or do should I buy a hardware fan control drive bay?

Brodel, It seems Asus fooled us in the manuel stating you can control the chassis Fan. The only thing you can control is the CPU fan with either Q-Fan or Speedfan.

First Post for me in this forum.. great thread thx..

@ Pedram,

i´ve done this.. got a GTO² and unlocked it with Sapphire X850XT Bios.. works flawlessly.
This Card is highly recommended, "best bang 4 the buck". Really. its not only the 100% chance to unlock the last 4 pipes, the board also overclocks very well.. mine is running 24/7 @ 530 Core / 595 Mem..

<< End off topic..
Now my question.. i recently upgraded my rig from a MSI NEO Platinum AGP nforce3 to this Asus A8N-E.. (guess why ??)

I am still using the Winchester 3200+ CPU which worked for over a year in the MSI with 10x250HTT, DDR@ 333 (~200Mhz) 1T... i was happy with this OC since the Winnies usually doesnt OC as well as the Venice.. Well now with the Asus i cant reach this values, all i get is max, 235HTT stable. Everything above that gives crashes in games or it passes Post but failed loading OS.
I played around with several Bios versions, and yes i ve done the nessesary stuff in the Bios like fixing the PCI Clock HTT x4, Ramdivider 333, etc...
I tried Bios 1010,1008, 1006. (Through Alt+F2).
If anyone has an idea..
THX.

eh that sucks, I might pick up a fan controller for a spare bay then, or add it to my christmas list

Most of you probably already know this, but for those who don't:

Download A64 Tweaker if you need more Ram dividers. This utility will give you serveral more as well as letting you tweak about every other imaginable memory parameter. I like my board alot more now

wiered as it seems this board requires more dram volt. maybe it will fix your problem.
next, check to see if changes have taken place (with cpu-z) as many changes seem to be done but do not take place.as far as I have experience this board is ok at >300 fsb despite the lack of many seemingly necessary bios options.
I'm concerned about GTO'2 real value.any luck to buy<200$?

I have tested with Dram Voltage of 2,8 V. Funny but this seems to fix it. Now i have running Sp2004 Blend for 5 Hours with the following settings:

Winnie 3200+ @250 x10, 1,5V, DDR Divider 333 Mhz (runs @208Mhz),1T, DDR Voltage 2,8 Volts.CPU Temp is around 44 ° Bios 1010..

@Pedramrezai:
What do you mean with " concerned about the real value?
Again: there is a 100% Guarantee to unlock the missing 4 Pipes plus good overclock Cabability. For around 220 Euros (in Europe) you get a R480 Core stuffed with 1,6ns DDR3 Rams on the X850 Reverencelayout PCB from Sapphire /ati.
The Card runs as a X850XT, if you are lucky you can OC the card above X850XTPE level. For a X850XT PE you have to throw about 350 Bucks on the table of your favorite Dealer.
I switched from AGP to PCI-x only to use this card its pure OC fun without a risk..imho..go go go... ;-)
Sorry for offtopic again..

I've tried increasing core voltage
I've tried increasing ram voltage
I've tried lowering HTT multiplier

Anything over 230FSB causes prime95 to fail in under 1min
cheers

Maybe you forgot to lower cpu multiplier.First lower cpu multi to atleast 8,then try to scale fsb.As I've mentioned this board easily hits >300 fsb. Also remember to use atleast 333 ram divider as 8.5x300 with 333 divider brings your ram to DDR466 which I don't know your ram is validated for or not.don't forget to give 2.8v to your ram.lastly, adjust HT multi at 3x.

Oh! 280 $ is way to much, 100% agree.. here in germany one can get the card for 220 Euros.

These are my settings i am using, may help other winnie owners:
HW:
Winchester 3200+, A8N-E, Promos cheap DDR400 2x512MB Doublesided..
Setup:

HTT Clock 250 x 10, CPUVolts = 1,5 V, DDR Volts 2,8V, RAmDivider 330 (runs @208Mhz) , PCI and PCI-x locked at 33,3 / 100Mhz,
LDT x 4 = 1000Mhz, Bios 1010, this setup runs Prime95 SP2004 12 Hours without error.

For me, the tipp to raise the Dram Voltage from 2,6 to 2,8 does the trick.
Funny because with my old MSI Neo2 i needed only 2,6 V. Looks like the Nforce 4 ultra needs a little more Juice for the Rams..

Im very happy with this Board now. Thx again for the Ram voltage Hint.

Sorry 4 crappy english..

It all doesnt help here, ram isnt in the way since it runs <200 now, and it can do >200 when i put FSB on 260x9 (215 or something for the ram, 200 standard value) but its just the 300 fsb, even when i go for 8x350, 2800 it goes back to 8x300 in cpu-z and ram must be clocked down even further too. I'll go do some benching to see of cpu-z is correct and indeed it doesnt hit any fsb over 300. Then i'll go flash bios and chipset to newest versions and if that don't work too i'm going to contact my shop and ask for another sample. settings that do work are:

260x9=2400 (just about) with ram doing 210
300x9=2700 (though memory is divided too slow i think, under 200 mhz)
evertyhing above 300 automatically goes back to the 300 value. It's soo annoying. Powersupply is well big enough, cpu core and mem controller are good enough, memory can handle the speeds...temperatures are perfect. Cant think of anything that could be in the way accept motherboard.

It´s cheap standard ram: Manufacturer ProMos 512MB DS Timings: 3.3.3.8 1T factory default. The Asus first sets these timings exept of 1T. I changed manually only to 1T. Others leaved at Auto.

updating to newer bios fixes over 300fsb problem.at 300x9 your memory runs approximately at DDR500 specs,so first check your ram specs then go over 300.

pedramrezai: I updated to 6.70 drivers but intermittent HDD device paging errors on boot remain. But I must say 6.70 and 81.95 display very very nice and quick.

I also have this problem, after post if system is cold booted,it freezes after detecting ide/sata devices, the cure is to hit delete and the save and exit without changing any setting. In my opinion this is not a os problem.it should be bios problem when oc'ing.

I seem to have a unique problem with the bios issue. I couldn't get the HT multi out of 4x for the life of me. I never really messed with it until I was using 1008 or the beta 1010. I have tried both the windows flash and the dos flash methods for both. I also set the bios to defaults as soon as I start with a new flash. I said what the heck and tried 1003s and they work. All multis I tried 2-5 (didn't care to try 1) worked fine. Anyways I tried flashing back to 1008 thinking 1003 could have un stuck the ht link. So needless to say I am back on the 1003s and a little ticked off. Anyone have similar issues?...from what I have read it seems like most people are handling 1008 and 1010 fine. Oh yeah...I do have a Sandy 3700 which some pages back seemed to be a more common ground for the people having the problems. I am gonna try talking to asus and see if I can get their arses in gear to release a decent bios. I am not sure if the 1003s will work with 939 opterons, but I guess I will find out when my chip gets here next week.

oh yeah 1001 and 1005 wouldn't flash

how are 1006s?
...I am thinking of trying those tomorrow; I still wish I could run 1008s since it shows that it supports new cpus and chances are...the 939 optys may fall into that category ...

I am also having a similar problem with my HTT locked at 4x. It seems this 4x is the default value and it is locked on my A8N-E for bios' 1006, 1008, and 1010-003. With bios 1004 and lower, I am able to manually adjust the HTT to any setting. I only flash my bios in DOS mode with AWDFLASH. I have reset bios default settings with the F5 key, saving, and rebooting, immediately after flashing the new bios. I have also attempted manually setting voltages higher than their default in the hopes this would give HTT control back to the bios.

I tried installing the new chipset v6.65 before flashing bios v1008 and v1010-003. I have also flashed the bios to v1008 and then reinstalled Windows XP. Nothing that I am able to think of has helped to unlock the HTT with exception of using bios v1004 or lower.

This may be an issue due to the processor but I cannot be certain of this.
My cpu is supposedly a 3000+ Venice with the following specs, if this is helpful to anyone:
AMD Athlon 64
ADA3000DAA4BP
LBBLE 0516CPBW

My currently installed bios version is 1004 and with this, I am able to overclock the FSB into the upper 200MHz's. For example currently it is set at 286MHz at 266/400 memory divider. It seems I will just have to stay with bios v1004 for now and hope upgrading the processor at some later date will allow the HTT to unlock with a higher bios version.

Venice for 3000+, 3200+, and 3500+
San Diego for 3700+

Yes, AMD Athlon 64 cpu's are top-locked at a multiplier, meaning they can be set lower but not higher.
Example:
3000+ at 9x
3200+ at 10x
3500+ at 11x

Hmm...I'm working on overclocking my Opteron 148 on my A8N-E but am experiencing some of the problems I've seen in this thread. I'm at work now but have found a few things to try when I get back to my PC. I'll post back with my results.
