a8n-e and i'm running 4x512 sticks of twinmos ram at cas of 2.5
Nice to hear that. I am using twinmos and was debating getting 2 more sticks, but hesitating because of all the reports of DDR 333 when 4 sticks were installed. Actually Venice, SD, etc. later AMD cores support 4 sticks dual channel at 400 MHz. The older CPUs do not support it.

Plus what is the difference between 1T and 2T ...all it is to me is numbers....i'm a noob at these sort of things...
Oh just switch and see for yourself. There is huge debate on this. Some insist 1T is the ultimate. I personally found a very minor difference between 1T and 2T, in fact the bios on SPD also sometimes selects 1T and sometimes 2T when switching between auto and manual settings.

yea un fortunately since messing around with bios versions i can no longer run at 1T but the 400 stays when set to manual...set it to auto and it goes back to 333.
my cpu is a 3500 venice

I had the same experience. Someone said the controller defaulted to 333 with 4 sticks but I found out you can manually change it back to 400.

I've been using this board for a few months now & have no complaints. I highly recommend this board for anyone who is not interested in using SLI. This board just works right out of the box.

FYI: To help anyone who has the same problem
I had a random shut-off problem with mine.
I was having a headache, while blaming the power supply. That was wrong.
The problem was solved by upgrading the Bios to Rev 1010.

I am gonna order the A8N-E and was wondering if anyone thinks I can put a Coolermaster Blue Ice on this board with an XFX 7800GT?

http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?L...her_title=+RT-UCL-L4U1+CM%20Blue%20Ice

If so then will I have a problem using a Zalman fanless chipset cooler on the board with a XFX 7800GT? If the 7800GT will interfere will bending the cooling fins on the Zalman fanless cooler make it fit? I heard the NF4 chipsets fans have a high dying rate and since these chips run a little hotter I want to put a Zalman fanless chipset cooler on it.

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?...vpn=ZM-NB47J&manufacture=ZALMAN%20TECH

Also I checked out ASUS's website and downloaded the newest BIOS file 1010 and there was no flash utility included. Not sure why they don't include one. What flash utility do yo uneed to use for this board? awdflash?

just a quick question, what temps should i be seing from my northbridge ?
i have a zalman heatsink on with a small fan running at 4000rpm and am getting a highest temp of 45 degrees C.is that too hot or normal ?
I'm reading the remps with a probe from a hardcano 13 stuck to the side,or is the motherboard temp in asus probe the northbridge temp ? if so that is always 4 degrees cooler

I have the Zalman NB47J on an A8N-E, and you should not have problems with that cooler and a single-height video card. I don't know about that card in particular, but in some cases aftermarket coolers that require two slots have required modifications to the Zalman or themselves to fit (if I remember correctly).

So how well does the NB47J work if one does not put a fan on it? My case is a Sonata II with only the rear 120 mm fan, no overclocking will be done and I just want a stable system. Graphics card is an Asus 6600 with passive cooling (Silencer), the NB47J should fit right?

One more thing. In what order should I install the drivers for everything after getting Windows XP on there? Is it Nforce drivers->video drivers->other drivers? What about the audio, should I get the package from Asus or is it included with the Nforce drivers from Nvidia?

The NB47J should be ok without a fan if you aren't overclocking, but in my case I ended up adding a silent Panaflo 40mm fan screwed to the side of the NB47J that faces away from the video card. This was done fairly soon after the system was assembled, so I can't comment on the stability beforehand, but I have had no problems whatsoever afterward, and didn't notice anything unusual before.

As far as my experience went, you have the driver installation order just fine. I would recommend not installing the Nvidia firewall-related things (active armor, etc.), though, as those are mostly useless in my experience, and do cause instability.

Thanks for the tips. I think I'll start out without a fan on the NB47, if stability problems arise I'll just add one later. One other thing, the XP Pro disc I bought with my parts has SP2 included, will I still need to hook up a floppy in order to install Windows on a SATA drive or are the necessary drivers included at this point?

You won't need the floppy with SATA drivers unless you plan to install Windows on a RAID array; under normal circumstances with a single hard drive, the additional drivers are not needed.

Thanks! Last question (for now), could I get clarification on the audio drivers? The info page at Nvidia says that the 6.70 chipset drivers includes audio, but there's a file with just audio drivers from Asus that I also have. Which one is it?

I can't say for certain, because I have the onboard sound disabled in the BIOS to use another sound card instead, but when I was using the onboard audio, I don't remember having to install anything other than the one large package of NVidia drivers (and display drivers, etc., naturally).

Does anybody with an A8N-E have a M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card? I'm using the 1010 final bios, and no matter what, I get no sound from the Revo after resuming from S3 standby. It works fine up until resuming from standby. I've done clean installs of XP Pro on two different hd's and the problem persists. I've also tried the Revo in all 3 PCI slots and I'm using M-Audios latest drivers. I've had the Revo for over two years and the sound after S3 worked fine on prior builds (both Intel chipset boards).

Asus tech support was a joke - don't ask. Still waiting on a response from M-Audio.

My Revolution 7.1 has no problems in the A8N-E, but I never use any form of sleep, standby, or hibernation, so I'm not sure how well it would work. If I remember, though, I'll test in a few days when I have access to my A8N-E/Revo system to see if it has the same issues that you are experiencing.

Ok i just bought this board and after setting it up it would not boot and i think the cause of this was that i had two 1 gig sticks running in A1 and A2 sockets so i immediately switched to a A1 B1 configuration which i hope is the correct way to have them when running dual? Anyways i have had alot of crashes and niggles while installing and setting up windows and the reason i bought this board was because i was hit with a problem on my other board (abit ax8) where i was crashing galore until i took one of my sticks out leaving just 1 gig in there then it would happily run for hours, days without crashing so as i thought it was must be a motherboard issue i now find myself with this new board and with similar instability issues and having taken one stick out i am running Prime 95 for 15 minutes after attempting three times previous with both sticks in and only lasting a minute or so. It looks like i have not improved my situation so my question is am i looking at a CPU problem? I ran with this CPU with 1 gig of ram on my old board for a week solid with plenty of gaming so it was certainly under stress but is it possible that the only problem it has is it can't run with 2 gig, can a cpu fail in that manner?
I ran both sticks seperately through memtest and Primetest (13 hours with each) on my old board and they came up trumps so i hesitate to blame the ram sticks unless there is such a failure as the ram being perfectly fine on its own but failing when running in dual mode with another stick.

I hope someone can help me here as i am at a loss. My only choice seems to be to spend more money on a new cpu which is far from ideal as i have just spent £70 on this motherboard and if i was to get a cpu it would have to be the 4000+ which is over £200.
I am running a 3500+ Newcastle cpu atm.

P.S. Prime has been running for 30 minutes now error free, so it looks like my problem is indentical.

Just thought I'd pop in with a success story. Built my computer based on the A8N-E yesterday and everything went without a hitch, booted right up on the first try and installed Windows without a single problem. Spent most of the day transferring stuff from my old hard drives and nothing strange happened. Very happy with this box so far. Asus boards are definitely my favorites, I've built systems based on TX97, CUSL2 and P4P800 boards before without any problems and now this one. Excellent.

hi guys, i need some help here regarding a8n-e. this is a newly bought mobo, combined with my venice 3K E3. i had strange problem. if i flash the bios to 1010, the system would not even finish loading windows. it will freeze somewhere along the way. it is default bios setting.
so i think i'm stuck with version 1008 from now on. and with this version, running on default setting would not be a problem. but if o'c a bit, then the system starts freezing again. i set to ldt 4x, 1.45vcore, 2.7vdimm, 266 divider, 2.5-3-3-7 and 210HTT only. any suggestion regarding this problem? thx b4.

Hi, I've got the Microsoft wireless Desktop 1000 and the Asus A8N-E Motherboard and on previous rig and my bro's rig the keyboard and mouse works fine without any of the problems i'm going to list now:

Reciever problem, the green light saying the numlock or capslock would just dissapear and i would recieve jerkiness in the mouse and unresponsiveness from my keyboard and then sometimes a button would go on as if i held it for 5 seconds.

I've tried 6 different USB ports which would continue to give me this problem. Im thinking its either the usb ps are faulty or it could be the case these are USB 2.0 and the PC's i used to test the desktop were both USB 1.0 or whatever it was before. Can someone please advise? Thanks alot.

Ok, finally made the purchase. So here's my rig

AMD x2 4400+
Asus A8N-E
OCZ Dual Channel Platinum PC3200 2x1GB
eVGA 7800GT 256-P2-N517-AX
Hiper Type R 580W PS
Seagate SATA 160GB
Viewsonic VX924 19" LCD
Thermaltake CL-P0200 HSF
Zalman Northbridge chipset fan
Antec SLK3000B case
Windows XP Pro 64-bit

CPU, MB, RAM and LCD will arrive by Wednesday which means I'll be up all night installing. Does anyone out there have the same CPU/MB/RAM setup I do? Looking to hear about experiences, hints, warnings, etc...

Also, any specific order on upgrade of bios and drivers? I'm guessing
1. Upgrade firmware to Asus Bios 1010
2. Upgrade to Asus supplied nVidia chipset firmware 665
3. Upgrade Windows drivers from nvidia?

Is this the right order? What about drivers from nvidia.com? Should I use those also?

This is real exciting for me since my last box (which died in Dec) was a AMD Athlon XP1900. Keeping my fingers crossed things will fire up on the first crank.
