it'll fit but its gonna be hot, mines always hotter than my cpu even with a fan on it.I'm not sure how hot there allowed to reach or how hot they run with standard fan on..if i knew how hot they run with standard fan i could make a well educated guess i suppose .

Does A8N-E work with a 20-pin PSU?
Mine is working fine with an Antec TP480. It worked fine without an adapter for a couple of weeks, but I decided to put in an 20>24 adapter just to be safe. Still running fine, more than 6 months now.

Initially started using 20 - 24 pin adaptor, but after reading about the Voltage fluctuations someone referred to in another post, I decided to try without it ..... and the outcome? well from what asus probe reads, I notice better voltage stability, so thats how i've continued running for last 2 mths.
Try posting ur rig's specs, it can help alot when your after help
Anyone elses thoughts appreciated...

Stability has not been an issue, simply low voltage readings by Asus Probe / mobo reporting. My system was stable both with 20 pin only and 20>24 connected. Voltage readings were same with and without the adapter.

When I browsed around for the problem, I found that this was common and whoever checked with a multimeter, found their voltages ok, but Asus probe reporting lower than actual. This was 6 months ago and I do not have any links at hand. Not having had any voltage warnings or BSOD in 6 months, I presume all is ok for me.

Not sure dude.. Have you tried any other USB periphs just to see what happens?
You can at least see if it's the ports being flakey, or if for some reason it's a problem only with the MS desktop.

Just my .02. You will have to do some swapping / possibly re-installing some drivers, etc.

Anyways i have had alot of crashes and niggles while installing and setting up windows and the reason i bought this board was because i was hit with a problem on my other board (abit ax8) where i was crashing galore until i took one of my sticks out leaving just 1 gig in there then it would happily run for hours, days without crashing so as i thought it was must be a motherboard issue i now find myself with this new board and with similar instability issues and having taken one stick out i am running Prime 95 for 15 minutes after attempting three times previous with both sticks in and only lasting a minute or so. It looks like i have not improved my situation so my question is am i looking at a CPU problem? I ran with this CPU with 1 gig of ram on my old board for a week solid with plenty of gaming so it was certainly under stress but is it possible that the only problem it has is it can't run with 2 gig, can a cpu fail in that manner?
I ran both sticks seperately through memtest and Primetest (13 hours with each) on my old board and they came up trumps so i hesitate to blame the ram sticks unless there is such a failure as the ram being perfectly fine on its own but failing when running in dual mode with another stick.

I hope someone can help me here as i am at a loss. My only choice seems to be to spend more money on a new cpu which is far from ideal as i have just spent £70 on this motherboard and if i was to get a cpu it would have to be the 4000+ which is over £200.
I am running a 3500+ Newcastle cpu atm.

P.S. Prime has been running for 30 minutes now error free, so it looks like my problem is indentical.

Try updating to the new 1010 bios.

I dunno man, one stick primes forever and other stick fails...must be CPU! NOT! It's the memory pinky.

Hello guys. Does anyone know if you can use the newer Asus Probe II utility with the A8N-E motherboard?

The Asus website has the older version of Asus Probe in the download section for this motherboard. I'm not sure if they forgot to update their links, or is it because it wasn't included because the newer Asus Probe II is incompatible with the A8N-E?

Anyone using the Asus Probe II utility and is it working OK?

Just got the new power supply earlier this week and everything booted up just fine. Been to busy using this new computer to post that I solved the problem. Thanks for the help.

I've just installed the board, had no problems.

But I have a question, the PCI lock doesn't work unless I set the HT frequency to 201MHz. So I can't overclock from the BIOS. . . I'm using BIOS 1005. Will a bios update help?

Unfortunately, the PCIe slot on my board crapped out this week after just a few months of ownership. It was a great board when it was working though. I've replaced it with an A8N-SLI-Deluxe.

Anyone having problems with the 1010 BIOS? My system was locking up during games (no response from Ctrl+Alt+Del or anything) and it seemed to be happening only with games. A change back to 1008 fixed things, so it might be related to changes made to PCI-e in 1010?

I got the Probe II on CD that came with an A8V-MX (another PC I own). I felt it was noticeably more resource hungry while giving only a couple of details more. And I uninstalled it on that system. So I did not bother to install it on my A8N-E system.

You may perhaps be able to download it from link with A8V-MX support page and check compatibility with A8N-E.

I updated to 1010 bios and cleared CMOS. . . Now the PCI is locked and I can boot @ 333MHz HT (X3) from BIOS.

@smudger, 1010 bios is fine here.

Would help if you actually read my post. Doesn't matter guys, you lot have been pretty much unhelpful so i will be ordering a new cpu soon.

one 'noob' question, where in the A8N-E bios is the RAM divider settings? I can see the RAM voltage settings but nothing to do with thier ratios to the CPU?

Advanced > CPU Config > DRAM Config > Max MEM Clock (MHz)

Options are DDR200 (half HT speed - 1:2), DDR266, DDR333 and DDR400 ("sync" 1:1). If you have a revE3, E4 or E6 CPU other options will appear like DDR600.

Overclock Update: 360MHz HT (X3)

With the ABIT AN8 I reach 375MHz HT (X3). . . I think w/ extra cooling in the northbridge (runs hotter in ASUS A8N-E because of the onboard LAN) it will reach ABITs frequency.

I found out the capacitor brands in my A8N-E Rev 2.00:

1 nichicon
all others are United Chemi Con and Panasonic/Matsushita

Just FYI

I just got this motherboard and I get a "IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" blue screen of death, with computer restarting immediatly after popping up the message. Also, sometimes, the system refuses to boot, it just sits on the initial Windows XP logo boot screen. And even more, I get file corruptions like crazy! 8 out 10 files I download in internet explorer of firefox are not openable, because they get corrupted. In fact, irregardless of which applications I use, I get file corruptions here and there, something that never ever happened to me before (I have ADSL 3008kbps dwn, 800kbps up).

Anyhow, reading up on Google I learned that 99.99% the problem is due to bad memory. So I ran memtest86+ for 4 hours and passed with flying colours. It could also be due to devices not loving each other. So I took out everything except for my video card and 1 hard drive (serial ATA) and onboard ethernet. I still get the error! Every device, including USB and all serial and paralled and joystick and what have you are disabled in the bios.

Then, I turn off onbard ethernet and viola! No blue screens of death! BUT, how can onboard ethernet cause this? I mean I have the minimum hardware required to boot to windows, video card and hard drive anb keyboard and mousie. So Nvidia would have known that at least those devices will always be present and would have made sure that IRQ problems would not arise. But then again, it could be something else. Turning off onboard ethernet, although solving a problem, might be a fluke.

Please enlighten.

Do you have the "activearmor" drivers installed? They have been known to cause problems; I suggest trying an installation with only the core chipset drivers needed for normal operation, leaving out the special network drivers.
