I think the Asus EZ Flash is the easiest method. The EZ Flash utility is already built into the bios chip. So just go to the Asus website and download the latest Bios file and save it to a floppy disk. Restart the system and Press Alt + F2 during post. When instructed, insert the floppy with the new Bios file and press enter. When the Flash utility screen appears, type in the bios file name. Once the Bios is found, EZ Flash performs the update and will automatically reboot when finished.

It works fine up until resuming from standby. I've done clean installs of XP Pro on two different hd's and the problem persists. I've also tried the Revo in all 3 PCI slots and I'm using M-Audios latest drivers. I've had the Revo for over two years and the sound after S3 worked fine on prior builds (both Intel chipset boards).

Asus tech support was a joke - don't ask. Still waiting on a response from M-Audio.

I can't get my Revo 7.1 to install at all. When I disable the onboard audio, put in the Revo, boot windows, and install the drivers... As soon as the drivers are done installing, the computer locks up and blue screens.... Only solution so far?... Not use the Revo soundcard. I tried all slots and same result. Not even going to bother anymore. Will look for a different audio solution down the road. I'll have to live with onboard for now.

That's weird. My Revo 7.1 works fine except for the S3 problem noted. I disable it in Device Mgr, re-enable it after resuming S3 for now. M-Audio's tech support blamed it on the way mobo makers supply voltage to PCI slots during S3. They said sound card drivers want "always on" status

One more silly question, but I'm going to be updating my BIOS.
When I make a system floppy disk, what all needs to be on it?
Is it simply a boot disk with the BIOS update files on it?
Do I need specific BIOS files, or just throw all of them on the disk that I download from ASUS?

I'm new to the whole BIOS updating thing. hehe

If you flash your bios using the ALT-F2 method, then the only file you need on your floppy is the .bin BIOS file. That's it.

Hello,
This has probably been answered before(Sorry don't have the time to sift through 37 Pages). I am planning on using the zalman fix for the NB. I would also like to use an ATI silencer 5 on the Asus EAX850 pro. Is any one using this setup? And what options are there to make it all fit? Thanx

Perhaps a very silly question, but how the heck do I get my system to show me what my current BIOS version is?? During POST, all I see is the darn ASUS splash screen. I can't even see the info in Setup, which is weird.

There's an option to enable / disable the "logo on startup" (I think that is how it's worded). That should prevent the ASUS screen from being displayed, which should allow you to see the BIOS version during POST.

Bump to this question.
I'm also curious as to what vga coolers fit while using the Zalman NB47J.

Thanks guys.

Any dual slot cooler will interfere if you plan on using the Zalman fanless cooler. On another note I did some reading and it seems this board has a problem with high memory overlclocks @ 1T. This really sucks and now I know whay I can't get my memory past 245MHz. I hope ASUS fixes this. I will do some testing to see if I can get past 245MHz @ 2T.

And on top of that, the Venice memory divider problem hasn't been fixed. I have a newer Venice 3500+, E4 stepping, and if i use a divider, i can't get the memory (OCZ) past ~380DDR. It's really strange. I can do about 450DDR at 1:1.

Is there any way to control fan speeds on an A8N-E? I've tried SpeedFan, which only shows my CPU fan (which it does allow me to control) and one other fan which it doesn't even control, I have 3 case fans in total.

I think you can in the bios but I am not sure. There are 3 or 4 settings for fans speeds in the bios but not sure if they control them.

Hello again, well the BIOS flash went smoothly. I ended up using the ASUS flash utility in Windows, and just updated from the file I downloaded.

But ever since I put my system together, I've been having two problems:
1. It HANGS on Startup sometimes, not all the time. It's during the WinXP splash screen with the loading bar. It'll hang sometimes for about a minute and a half, sometimes though, it takes about 5 seconds. I don't get why it does it.

2. I get an occassional BSOD referrencing the nv4_disp.dll file. It usually only happens when I boot up the computer after being turned off all night. AND it happens when I'm loading games, not necessarily playing them.

Think it's my motherboard, or something else?
I've tried sooo many different video drivers, flashed my bios, ran memtest, disabled write combining... ugh

I have:
A8N-E (obviously) bios 1010
Athon 64 3200+ Venice (E4)
1x 1gb G. Skill PC3200
XFX Geforce 6800 GS PCI-Express
Win XP Pro SP2

Im having the same problems as agathodaimon... the other issue I am having is the my BIOS doesn't show my SATA drives as being connected at all, but the NVRAID utility shows my 0 array as being healthy and in Windows XP the safely remove hardware icon appears in the system tray and it shows both the drives i am using in my 0 array? are my drives failing or did the mobo take a dive? any help would be appreciated

Not sure if this would apply to you two but I had a problem where the windows boot screen would hang and never load windows. At first I thought it was a driver problem but it seems al I had to do is disable NCQ (uncheck "enable command queuing") in the SATA controller in device manager in safe mode. Not sure if this will help. ALso make sure the SATA controller is enabled in the BIOS. What drivers are you 2 using? I am using V6.70 and display drivers V81.98. Unplug and replug the cables to the HD to see if that helps. Also I usually install chipset drivers before you install display drivers.

On another note I did some testing and it must be true about that 1T bug. I can't overclock past 244MHz. I also ran some SISandra tests to show how much 2T is comparied to 1T.

This 1T bug really sucks.

I'm using the chipset drivers right before v 6.70 and the vid. drivers (currently) that came with my card. I think 81.89 (not 98).
I tried the Omega drivers, which were funky and underclocked my card.

I'll have to give the 6.70 drivers a try for my chipset though... Any trick to getting the old ones uninstalled? Or does it do it for you in the setup.

The NVidia firewall is known for causing instability, so it's one thing you should eliminate when you reinstall chipset drivers.

updated drivers to 6.70 and BIOS at 1010....still showing my array in safely remove hardware icon....everything still runs fine...just seems a bit odd. any other suggestions outside of me destroying and rebuilding the array?

Or should i try to reflash my BIOS?

I have an X2 4400 with 2 gigs of OCZ platinum dual channel and an x1800xt

One of the features of SATA-II is hot swappability, so it would show as removable, if your array is on SATA-2 HDDs. My single SATA-2 HDD also shows up as removable.

My drives are SATA 1, Would being plugged into SATA 2 ports have anything to do with it? It would seem so but i thought i'd ask anyways.... and one off the topic question, does anyone have that Zalman ZM80D-Hp VGA heatsink I want to replace the turbine i've got on my x1800xt and was looking into that model.

Since I'm getting an SB Audigy2 soundcard for my new computer, I was told to turn off the onboard sound in the BIOS. I have read the manual for this MB, but it was not clear to me which setting turns off the onboard sound. Does anybody here know? Sorry for such a n00b question, but I want to be sure.

hepcat06, look for an option to enable/disable AC97 codec, it's usually found in the integrated components sections of BIOS screens.

Ok so reflashed my bios and my HDD's showed up. then windows BSOD'd me with Driver_IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. then after a reboot they don't show up anymore. windows loads fine. I wonder if they got software raid'ed somehow. I think I'm just gonna back everything up and rebuild the array...
