Sorry I don't regularily contribute to this forum, but I have a problem with my computer that has really been irritating me and I read part of this thread and I found it might be a good place to ask for help. So two months ago, we built this computer and it runs on a A8N-E motherboard (of course!). After having much fun with the computer, the chipset fan started to spin really slow and upon restarting the computer, it eventually lead to a "CHIP failed or speed too slow". Beginning an amazing 6 day weekend that day, I brought it into a computer store and they said it would take them a week to replace the fan. I thought that was kind of ridiculous so I bought a fan home myself and replaced it. There was one thing I missed though, to remove the previos thermopaste before I installed the new one.
So now, the computer load perfectly but after idling for long times and loading simple programs like MSPaint, it would take about half a minute. Everything would load instantly during a period of time, and after that period of time, loading any kind of program would take a long time again. Sometimes when it loads Windows, it will load it really slowly and the startup items don't load. But sometimes, it loads perfectly fine and fast...
It has only been like this AFTER I replaced the fan... I've ran disk checking, disk defragment, virus checked with AVG, adware checked with Ad-Aware, and registry checked with Registry Mechanics. I tried everything possible to revert the speed back to how it was when i built it... Right now, I don't know if it's hardware problems, or something reatarded in Windows) And I hope it has nothing to do with that extra thermopaste...
Thanks for your help in advance.
Edit: Right, forgot to add. When I game like HL2 and CS:Source, everything runs smooth. Just the loading time after an idle period of time will occur when I load the games (it's so random).
Edit 2: And I should probably give some other specs. Athlon X2 3800+, GeForce 7800 GT, 2GB CAS3 RAM, Seagate 250gb Barracuda SATAII hard drive. That's basically it =) and of course the A8N-E motherboard with an A8N series replacement chipset fan.
