1- Fixed system hangs on POST while installing some PCI-E x16 VGA cards.

Looks like they skipped 1012. I wonder why? I also wonder if 1013 fixes anything else besides the system hang on post.

I have installed the 1013 BIOS and am happy because it solved the issue I had where the graphics card (PCI-E x16) would power off and on for a second during (re-)boots. So they solved what they state in the changelog! Thx ASUS!

That's good to hear cool. I haven't tried updating yet, myself. I won't have an opportunity to do so until the middle of the month. It would be nice if they cleaned up some of the divider issues. But mine is stable right now so I am hesitant to mess around too much.

I've got a weird A8N-E problem, and a friend of mine has the SAME EXACT problem with entirely different components so I'm near certain its the motherboard. We both have V2.00 boards, another friend with an earlier revision does not have any of the problems mentioned below.

Retarded Windows boot:
Either the blue loading bar for XP will loop infinitely, or when all the USB devices (keyboard, flash card reader) de and then reinitialize and the floppy drive seeks the bar will just hang. Most of the time it takes 4 or 5 tries to actually get into Windows, and sometimes we'll see a black screen for 30-40 seconds (the computer will appear frozen) after the loading screen disappears, then all of a sudden we get the welcome screen.

Retarded video during POST and during Windows boot:
With his computer, any BIOS or Windows pre-boot screens (choosing a boot option) would often have random miscolored characters or shading around the characters. With me, I'd get a bunch of colored lines when it switches from the POST screen to the IRQ listing, but I could usually fix it by just turning my monitor on and off, I'm still not sure if its the monitor, motherboard, or video card, but it stopped doing that on my computer.

Me only:
Lots of dual core related problems, Premiere acts dumb, Battlefield 2 acts dumb, but I fixed it with some lines added to boot.ini, weird.

His rig: Athlon 64 3000+, 160 GB 7200.8 SATA Cuda, 1 GB Kingmax DDR400, nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT
My rig: Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 218 MHz FSB, 2399 MHz, 1.3625V CPU, 2.85V DDR, 2 GB DDR400 G.Skill, nVIDIA GeForce 7800GT

I loaded his mobo with 1013, and it didn't fix it, going to try it on mine right now

Alright, shaky BIOS update, had to go to 1011 (from 1010) before it would let me install 1013, and the first 3 or 4 boots were nothing but R2D2 noises, but I shut SMART off and now it seems to work fine. Hope SMART wasn't going haywire because my hard drives really are damaged, its (SMART) never worked properly since I got this board...

If it is compatible, what kind of overclock can I expect at a 1T command rate? Is anyone else running this combo--if so, what are your results?

I don't see why it won't work though I don't have that ram. As for OC'ing at 1T don't expect much as this board has a 1T bug. This bug 1T limits OC'ing memory to around 230-240MHz so if you want to OC your memory past that you have to use 2T. Go buy a DFI Ultra-D instead; I would have if I known about this bug before I bought this board.

I was seriously considering the Ultra-D but decided on the A8N-E because of the price. From GSkill's site and DFI's forums, the Extreme Series fits like hand-in-glove for their mobos. See what happens when you try to pinch pennies? :disgust:

What? That's strange considering my A8N-E/X2 3800+ has my Mushkin Extreme PC4000 at 280 1T right now and has had for the last several months.

Sure you don't have the A8N-SLi? If not then what revision do you have of the A8N-E? I have Rev2 and updating the bios didn't fix it and I think it never will. How about you post a CPUz screenshot?

You sure its not a rev1 board? The rev2 boards suck with overclocking IMO, actually they just kinda suck.

My board is Rev2 and it runs fine without any problems other than the 1T bug which sucks. This puts Asus down in my books.

Are you overclocked 1:1? Could you please post a pic of CPUz "memory" tab EndGame.

@ EndGame

almost 1.7V Vcore is too much for A64x2 in 0.09µ technology

did you take a look on your CPU temperatures under heavy load?

I hope he doesn't run it at 1.7V 24/7. I am still waiting for EndGame to prove he can overclock 1:1 past 230-240Mhz with the A8N-E.

Im running an asus a8n-e rev2 board at 255htt 1 to 1 with ram at 1T timing.its a venice 3200 e3 with corsair xms 3200c2 rev 5.1 ram.it runs most of the time at 250htt and it wont boot at 257htt.my voltages are 1.375 cpu and 2.65 on the ram.i wonder if the 1T has something to do with the memory controller/ram/or bios version.im running bios 1006 and i wont upgrade as this board runs perfect.its 12 hours prime stable.runs all benchmarks perfect.no crashes/blue screens or anything.my friend has the same board and has a sd3700 with corsair v/select,bios 1008 and he cant run 1T ovet 230.over 248htt i had to adjust ram timings from 2.5,3,3,7 1T to 3,3,3,8 1T.when i bring up a64 tweaker to see my values it says 2T disabled and bios reads 1T.i wonder if it a board problem or depends on a combination of things......................... and what is nice is i have cool and quiet enabled so cpuz shows cpu running at 1250mhz when not under load.runs perfect and benches the same with c&q enabled or not,so i run it.

Try setting the command rate to 2T. You could probably get a higher overclock. I have a 3000+ venice and two different ram kits, Patriot XBL 2x512MB and Corsair XMS PC4000 2x1GB kits.

The 3000+ and Patriot XBL kit ran fine 1:1 at 270Mhz (2.5-3-3-7) on a MSI Neo2 Plat. I just recently got the Corsair ram kit so I never ran it on the Neo2 but it can run at 285MHz (3-4-4-8) on my A8N-E. I know for sure all three can overclcok to 270Mhz with ease.

hi everybody,

i was scanning this forum for a while now to no end...

Already solved my DVD drive (PATA Benq 1620) messing up boot. Disabled nVidia's PATA driver ;-) thanks to whoever pointed that out anyways!

Now - all of a sudden - I get up in the morning to find my computer seems to be in standby. With PS/2 wake disabled, both keyboard and mouse seem to wake up the board.

...but past POST I get a black screen - windows seems to be loading in the background (HDD led indicates this), but no visuals. how come???

Now what gives me the creeps is - yesterday the machine was just fine. Haven't got time to mess with it in the morning before going to work but will give it a major bash tonite - so if anybody got ideas?

Haven't done any major OCing, haven't tried flashing my BIOS yet. It's a cheap lame setup [450 $ in total] I'm doin for my wife - so she stops messing up my primary rig so any quick trick appreciated (she'll kill me if I down it for more than one day

Setup:
A8N-E rev 2.0, bios 1011
Athlon64 3000+ (rock solid @1980MHz so far)
2x 512MB 2.5 Apacer DDR400
ASUS GF6600TD (rock solid @525/1050 so far)
ATi TVwonder VE PCI
Maxtor SATA II 80Gig
IBM ATA 30+9 Gig
Benq 1620 DVD writer
cheap lame case w/350W PSU

I'm out of my wits on this one. Should I flash the BIOS to 1013? 1010? Remove all drivers? Clean install XP? Unclock the GPU? PSU's doin just fine, so that should not be the issue here.

heeeeeelp!

D.

According to the ASUS manual this memory is not compatible with the ASUS board in dual channel configuration using only 2 chips. You have to use all 4. I however am wanting to use just 2 when I buy my new computer.
Is anyone else using this memory? Or a similar configuration??
