As you say, Microsoft should get their finger out of their @$$ instead of blaming motherboardmanufacturers. Me, with a clicker and some treats, I am going to learn my cat's to turn on the pc with the powerswitch on command. Hell, I allready taught them to kill a person in their sleep so how hard can this be...

Thx for the reply

"Edit: Here is a link to the ASUS e-store in case you were looking to purchase the A8N-Premium heatpipe: e-store"

wow! I had no idea bout the asus e-store. I just bought one of these heatpipes off ebay and it looks as though i paid a little too much. I used it to replace the noisey fan on my a8n-e. Its the same board orientation as the premium just different model chipset. I scraped off the left over grease and pad and used artic silver on the heatpipe. seems to be working well so far.

you need nforce4 driver, not nForce 430/410

http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_nf4_win2k_6.86.html

version 6.86 is latest. pubilshed this month, runs stable and did not find any complaints about on the net. some ppl say, even the firewall works now with 6.86

if you do not overclock, you should not get in trouble with 1T.

i noticed many ppl talking about 1T bug.
but nobody can explain, what 1T bug exactly means.
some guys experienced problems running ram higher than 240 @1T.
i'm not sure, if it can be called "bug" if components do not work properly while they are run apart from their specifications.

sorry for bad english. hope you can read.

Hi Guys

This is my first time on Anandtech forums. How is everyone?? I did a search for A8N-E and led me to this amazingly long thread about the motherbaord that I have as well. Anyway I have a problem and i hope that you guys can help me out. Below are my specs:

-X2 939 4400+
-A8N-E
-G.Skill DDR400 2x1GB 2GBHS (Samsung UCCC)
-PowerColor X1800GTO 256MB
-80GB Seagate SATA HDD
-120GB WD IDE HDD
-TT 480W Silent PurePower PSU

I recently bought the G.Skill RAm based on the Samsung UCCC chips. From this site: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/GSkill/3200-2GBHS/2 The RAM can achieve pretty high overclocks of approx 246 2.5-3-3-8 1T at 2.6V.

For me when i try to overclock there is like a barrier at around 225Mhz to 230Mhz, and no matter what i try (increase latency, increase RAM voltages) it won't budge. I'm very sure that it can go higher. I use memtest86+ for testing RAM stability.
The last post on this thread: http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherboar...skill-f1-3200usu2.html?highlight=2gbhs says there could be incompatibility issues with UCCC and the A8N-E. Just wondering if anyone here has heard of this or can confirm it??

With the barrier I can still overclock everything else except the RAM. This is what i can get:
-HTT Multi: 4x
-HTT: 260Mhz
-CPU multi: 10x
-CPU Vcore: 1.4V
-RAM divider: 333/400
-RAM Voltage: 2.6V
-RAM: 216Mhz, 2.5-3-3-6 2T
CPU FREQUENCY: 2600MHz

Is there anything you guys can suggest for me to try out go get rid of the 'barrier'?

I'm using bios version 1010.

Thanks guys.

Please help... help... help..

My Asus A8n-e is refusing to boot. I changed the PSU with a new one and still it is the same problem.

If I clear the BIOS CMOS info and reboot. I Can enter the BIOS, however, after I change the BIOS to enable for example the RAID, save and reboot. The motherboard gets stuck with not even a BIOS screen just black screen... I am now Also I can see 2 red LED lit on my ATI 1800XT too.

Each time I clear the BIOS CMOS RAM, I can see BIOS screen and the checksum error was detected?

What to do now?

Hello A8N-E Owners!

I just built my first AMD rig and wanted to share my specs:

MB = A8N-E
CPU = AMD 3800 X2 Manchester Core
GPU = Evga 7600 GT CO
Case = Antec Super Lanboy
PS = Ultra X-Finity 500 Watt Flex cables
RAM = 2x512 MB corsair value ram
OS = Win XP Pro

I plan to upgrade the ram to at least 2x1GB but still not sure which ram to get (OCZ or Corsair). I am running everything stock asa of now, but will plan to overclock as the need arrises. This AMD rig is much faster then my other Dell dimension 4600 2.6 GHZ HT. Any advice on coolers? (Zalman or Thermaltake). I upgraded to latest bios 1013 i believe. Any advice on versions of chipset to use, GPU drivers, anything else you wish to share....

The new replacement of my A8N-E (from Asus RMA dep) did not last 24 hrs!. Last night the buidl was complete and I run it overnight. In the morning, I woke up hearing a chrip sound coming from my PC's Speaker. I shut off the PC and it just died!. The new motherboard is not even responding to the HW reset switch. I removed the motherboard, rechecked the connections. I can see the power LED on when the PSU is on, but if I recycle the HW Switch nothing happens.

I am now frustrated with this BS Quality from Asus.

What to do?

Hi everyone I've got a mystery on my hand and I am hoping that the folks in this forum might be able to help that is if anyone still reads this. I have 2 rigs that contain this motherboard one with the x2 4200 and the other with the 3000+ both running on ocz value ram. I have a set of crucial ballistix PC3200 ram that I want to use but for some reason whenever I place this ram into either rig the OS crashes and the message at boot up blames the ram which I am inclined to believe since the value ram is stable. I've rma'd my 2 sticks of ram 3 times and every set has caused the same crash in the OS but the tech support at Crucial tell me that the motherboard has been tested to be compatible with this ram. The only common factor between the 2 rigs is the motherboard and the psu, any ideas or comments would be appreciated on how to proceed.

Its set to auto and within windows the timing comes out correctly at 2-2-2-8 at DDR400 but I'm not sure if its 1T or 2T. Two things that I forgot to mention is that I am running the memory in dual channel and I was told to manually set the voltage at 2.8 but that didn't change anything so I've changed it back.

There are 2 versions of the 1013 - "Others" and DOS (looks like the same to me) - try the windows update utility and the Others version. Why are you updating anyway - if it ain't broke do not fix rule. I always used the windows update utility and flashed from file(a bit risky though) - just make sure that you do not have antivirus progs or any apps running the background. This version did not solve some issues i have - does not restart (hangs) - looking back the best o/c bios was 1006 I think - one of the earlier ones which was good for OC but may not be good for newer cpus.
CHipset driver -usually found under system devices - just update to the latest from NVIDIA if unsure.

Set all timings manually - use at least 2.85volts - Did you remember to set your divider and HT in Bios especially if you are o/clocking. I noticed that some high end RAM specs were not always the same as SPD - so may want to set manually to what the specs are. There are some other ram settings (besides the critical one - cmd rate 1t) did you play with those - i.e. loosen from default?

Hey folks,
I've had this board for a few weeks now.....running BIOS version 1010 and my PC would randomly reboot itself in the middle of doing something....playing games, browsing Internet, etc.
So i installed BIOS 1013 and everything seemed to go fine except now it hangs during the Boot sequence (right after listing PCI devices).
i can boot into Windows if i select the F8 key (Boot Menu) and then select my boot drive from the menu.....everything is fine after that but it's annoying that i have to go through the boot menu.

Does anyone know why it's hanging? And what is the solution? Go back to an older BIOS? And where would i find an older BIOS?

Thanks.

When I upgraded from 1010 to 1013, I found that my system would hang at boot time.

I have a fully loaded system in terms of hard drives... I have 4 IDE drives and 4 SATA drives. I found that if I disconnect some of the IDE drives, I am able to boot with 1013. (I never had this problem with 1010). It seems that 1013 made some changes in the boot sequence that causes problems when you have a lot of hard drives.

I eventually flashed back to 1010, and now I can boot with no problem.

The opposite happened to me. I had boot difficulties with 1010, but they disappeared with 1013.
