ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe chipset fan

Some time ago, I read a lot of posts complaining about the noisy chipset fan on this mobo.

Well, it just so happens to be that way for me too, now. I think it's "dying". It's sounding a lot.

So what do you say about replacing it with a ZALMAN ZM NB47J?

That's funny. Mine was dying and it was making the loudest noise ever. Today I just got my Zalman NB47J delivered and am installing it now. I'll let oyu know when it' in

Installed it, silent as silent can be. Highly recommended. Works great. Easy to install except taking out the motherboard :frown:

Do you absolutely have to take out the motherboard?

What temp difference was there between the fan and the sink?

I have the same issue with the chipset fan. It usually runs at 9000+ rpm but lately it has been whirring and i got an error at startup saying chipset fan speed failed. I checked the speed and it was about 6000 rpm.
I disabled the warning so i could boot and rang the supplier to get a replacement. I knew there was a problem with these fans and that you can get a replacement fan.
I talked to my retailer who contacted their supplier. I got the replacement fan today.

I will be putting it in tonight.

You three are lucky, mine was going strong at like 9k and one day I just came back from work and the fan had totally siezed, my case sensor had it running at 80C+ which has alway been generous specially at higher temps when compaired to the Asus Probe reading. If It was dying I would have gotten a replacemnt fan at first sign. Now I am getting a premium instead.

My Zalman has been running fine, and yes.... you do have to take out the mobo, otherwise I have no idea how you would get it in.

My chipset fan just went out today. It was still spinning around 600 rpm, but was making quite a racket. A quick call to Asus tech support and I have a replacement on the way, but what a pain to replace.

A quick and probably temporary fix I found was to remove the fan from the heatsink (four screws on the top and 3 below the blades) and blow all the dust out of it. The blade assembly will lift off its base a bit to help out. I put it back in and it's back up to 8000 rpm and will hopefully last until the replacement arrives. I don't know exactly what caused the noise. Was it dust inside the motor or was the motor just a little loose and vibrating within the heatsink? At any rate, this method is working at the moment (been running about 2 hours).

Now, I don't really want to remove the motherboard and replace the whole assembly if I don't have to, so I looked into replacing just the fan which is a 10 minute job. I googled the part number on the bottom of the fan and found a place that sells it. I'll let you know how much when I hear back from them. I'll probably buy a few of them and replace as needed........much easier than taking the whole computer apart to install the one Asus sends me.

LMFAO!!! I need a new chipset cooler fo a Gigabyte K8NXP-SLI, but the VC overhands the chipset. Can i just cut sum of the Zalman fins off to fit?

I ended up unscrewing and removing the cover on my fan/heatsink which helped prolong its life a little bit, but when it seized completely i removed the fan (along with the cover) and mounted a 40mm fan on top (so dodgy) which kept it cool enough for a while (noisey!!), now I have a zalman nb47j and everythings fine and quiet.

i picked up the zalman nb47j for AU$6.00

I am on hold with Asus right now. My chipset fan went out on my ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo. It took it 6 months before it went out. First fan in my life that has ever gone out. And I'm running just a normal setup in here too.

I just got off the phone with Asus, I called their service line for motherboards, he issued me a service number and then transferred me to RMA. They are shipping out a replacement fan ASAP, no cost to me.

I have the A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo.

I have been running the Zalman NB47J for over a year now and I put it on when the board was brand new, I even have dual 7800GTs and it works like a champ.

The Asus RMA department called me this morning to inform me they are shipping out my replacement fan. She said it should arrive within a week.

She mentioned that this particular model mobo has a known issue with the fan and they are replacing them with "new and improved" fans. She told me though there are no install instructions, but to make sure I install the fan, and then bend it to a 45-degree angle as the new replacement is larger than the original one.

Aside from the fact I hate Asus mobo's with VIA chipsets, I am still going to stay faithful to Asus for future purchases.

I took a 40mm fan off a Coolermaster heatsink and put it on the side of my Zalman NB47J. It feels cool to the touch.

My fan was shrieking as well and giving me boot warnings.

This angered me, so I took off the fan and flipped one of the door fans on my XaserIII.

I have a CoolerMaster fan coming Monday, I'll just add the fan. No luck cutting tops off Asus heat sink pins with a fingernail clipper, and if I have to take this board out, a brand new one is going in.

I'm a bit annoyed the fan lasted only 9 months.

9 months! Thats huge, my fan on my a8n-sli deluxe lasted 3 weeks

You lucky devil I immediately ordered a Zalman heatsink for it and within four days (before the Zalman arrived) it was already making grinding noises. I hope Asus sued that component maker, that fan was awful.

Mine lasted about 3 months. Died, I replaced it with a fan ASUS sent me. As a temp solution until my replacement came in I used a spare 40mm fan I had lying around. I put the screws back on the heatsink and I used dental floss to tie the spare fan onto the heatsink using the old screws as an anchoring point, looping them throw the screw holes in the fan.

hi, i think my chipset fan is finally dying out after about 1 year and 2 months of service,(making a loud noise) do you guys think i should take that fan out and put the ZALMAN ZM NB47J or is it worth to get the a8n premium edition (or any other SLI board for that matter) On a side note my 6800gt gfx card has the NV5 cooling fan and it takes up some space so i'm not quite sure if the zalman would fit anyways. any ideas would be appreciated.

I just ordered a NB32J for my board do you guys think thats a good chipset heat sink or should i order the 42? Sorry if that sounds stupid but my first time having to deal with the chipset i can do all the others though.
