After months of waiting i finally got all my gear to biuld my dream pc.

I've built all my previous comps with some snags here and there, but managed to overcome them, that was until i met MR. Asus SLI deluxe !

When i finished getting this rig built, and the moment came to turn on the power for the 1st time, the following happened : Green Led is ON,all fans are on, however the montior is pitchblack, nuthing, nada, zilch.

The monitor is just dead, and funny enough the 4 pin speaker connector aint on the cabinet with the rest of the pwr led. reset sw, etc etc.

I've tried to start it up with only one 6600 GT and changing the dual graphics slot to single. Same thing nothing.

What am i missing here ?

Spec's :
CPU : AMD4000+
Mobo : Asus K8N SLI Deluxe
Vidcards : 2 X Club 3D 6600 GT's
Ram : 2.5 GB DDR400 GEIL Ram
HD's 2 x WD's Raptor 74 GB
PSU : Chill Innovation CP510A (510W)
Sound : Audigy 2 Z

try removing the cmos battery and setting the jumper to clear cmos. leave it sit for a minute or two, then replace battery, put jumper back to normal. try it if you havent already, its a start

Ill try that thx, in the meantime since my intial post i decided to get my external speaker hooked up due to not finding the 4 pin connector that normally comes with the cabinets.

To my suprise a woman screams : System Failed Memory Test.

I know the ram is ok cause i've had them on my other pc without any problems ?

So i have to buy new RAM, these GEIL 2.5 gig didnt come cheap and i'm not sure the vendor will take them back just because my mobo didn't like them ((

Could this really be the problem or is a bug made by a corrupt bios? , if anbody could shed any light on this i sure would appreciate it.

Btw how do i flash the BIO externally ?, meaning since i i think it's a bios bug, then is it possible to flash the bios externally thru my other pc ?, this is surely a newbie question however i havent flashed a bios for god knows how long.

And since the comp is stonedead except for that : System Failed memory test lingo then i don't see how i can get it going unless i flash the BIO.

UPDATE since last post :

I have now removed one of the 6600GT's set the SLI chip to single card.
Then i removed all ram except the 1 i have on the 3rd slot, which is a 1 gig block.

Now the message has changed to : SYSTEM FAILED VGA TEST.

Go figure, i'm at loss atm.

Do i need to clear the CMOS every time i alter setup in the rig ?

That happened to me, turns out the card wasn't seated all the way. Longshot but you should check it.

With most of the earlier bios you do have to reset CMOS any time you change hardware or disconnect power from the motherboard.

The SLI selector is really picky and can appear to be seated properly but not work. Remove and reseat the selector card in single postion(don't push it deep into the slot, just gently put it in the slot and push down until it clicks in) then reset the CMOS and it should boot.

You will most likely have to boot with one stick of ram, then go into bios and set ddr voltage and timings manually to whats specified for your ram, then power down, add the second stick, then bootup and install windows. With two 1gb sticks you may have to change the command rate to 2T

I'd get the 1003 final bios and install that ASAP before you try any mobo tricks with it. The 1002 bios that shipped with my board was fine for stock but sucked for OC'ing. I had much better luck using the 1003 bios and I only recently installed the 1004 final bios but I'm with-holding final judgement on that until I've had time to get more use with it. The 1004 bios did allow me an additional 7mhz FSB but if you want to get your system fully running first I'd say use the 1003 bios for now. After you get things running you can fiddle with the 1004 bios or 1005 beta bios.

My BIO's comes up now as BIO's version 5.1.39,whats this 1002 your're mentioning ?

Just a little update, i can now conclude that both ramslots B1 & B2 is not working, but that i know have 1 gig in B3 and 1 gig in B4.

I have reset the sli connetor to dual graphics and inserted the 2nd 6600GT, i also put in my Audigy 2 Z, without any hickups.

So' i'm thinking i might stick with this BIO for as long nothing else happens, cause i think one guy earlier in another thread stated that dont flash the BIO if you dont have to atm until a real stable BIO update is out.

I don't know about the numbers your showing maybe drivers?

But the bios so far for this board are

1001 released
1002 released (most board ship with this)
1003 released
1004 released
1005.001 beta
1005.003 beta

And you are correct if you are stable run it as is for a few days. But you should eventually flash at least the 1003 release bios as it fixes many known problems with 1002 (like having to reset CMOS everytime you shut of power to the mobo). And if you plan on overclocking you definately need to update the bios, as 1002 sucks for overclocking.

He was having memory issues, try removing all memory and installing one stick in the primary (I believe A1) slot.

ive tried this, the error on the speaker is "no cpu installed" It's quite possibly not the cpu considering all of the recent issues. I really need some advice on this.
