I have this annoying problem. Whenever I start up my PC, I get the voice message "CPU fan failed". On screen its says something like the fan didn't start or is too low. Whenever I check it, everything is fine. My temps read 38-39 degrees in bios, 38-39 for my MB. In windows each one is like a degree higher. I read somewhere that a BIOS update will fix the problem, but other than aforementioned annoyance, I'm fine with my system. Will a BIOS update fix this problem? I'm afraid that whenever I do this update, I might incur another problem. FYI... I have the Asus board with the AMD 4400+ X2 proc., OCZ plats (2Gigs) put into the Antec P180 case. Someone give me some feedback or similar experiences, please.

You don't need to upgrade your bios. You can just go into your current bios settings and disable the CPU Fan Alert.

The release notes for BIOS 1006 apparently included a fix for this, however it didn't work on my system. As others have suggested, just disable the fan warning in BIOS.

1006 is a very stable/good BIOS but it's benefits over 1005 are not clear to me. I understand that the new 1008.3 Beta BIOS fixes the Vcore problems that affect everyone of lower BIOS revisions who are trying to raise their Vcore above the auto setting (there are numerous threads on this problem elsewhere in this forum). If you are not an overclocker, then this won't affect you at all.

Currently, it's at 1288 RPM with the CPU temp at 40 degrees Celsius. (According to Asus Probe.)

I'll give it a shot. I'm off to work right now. Thanks for the advice.
