Hey Rooster!!!

A8N-SLI (WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STANDARD AND DELUXE)...My understanding is that, it comes with ONLY extra components???

This is my system set up:

A8N-SLI (STANDARD)
ATHLON 64 3500+ (SOCKET 939 WINCHESTER)
ZALMAN CNPS7700-ALCU Ultra-Quiet CPU Cooler
OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 Platinum Revision 2 1GB (2 x 512 MB)
2 X NEC 3520A DVD-RW (FLASHED FIRMWARE USING v3.05) changed Hardware ID to NEC 3520WA DVD-RW
2 x SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.7 Serial ATA (200GB)
CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY 2 ZS (7.1 DTS NEO EX)
LEADTEK WINFAST 6600 TH 128MB PCI EXPRESS GRAPHICS CARD
BELKIN DVI -TO-DVI CABLE
SAMSUNG SYNMASTER 17"
LOGITECH MX900 BLUETOOTH HUB, MOUSE & KEYBOARD
LOGITECH ZX2300 (2:1) SPEAKER & SUBWOOFER
ENERMAX NOISETAKER AX SERIES VERSION 2.0 600 Watt 2 (PCI-EXPRESS)

OPERATING SYSTEM WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL

Since purchasing the above equipment, i've never had flash the BIOS from it's original BIOS version, when shipped version 1001. Last night I'd flash it to BIOS version 1011. I did download nVidia Chipset(CK804) driver version V6.65 for Windows XP(WHQL) before flashing to BIOS version 1011. I do not have NVIDEA FIREWALL installed as i did not want it, i have also disabled the onboard sound. I'm using Norton Anti-Virus 2005, and the standard Firewall that comes with Service Pack 2 instead. Right as i was saying. At present my System can go pass the POST, and then asks how to load Windows as it's detected a change in Hardware. No matter what i select it's always rebooting itself. All i like to know is for piece of mind , which is the safest BIOS to use and (if i need to use any utilities) to clean up all traces of Previous drivers. What chipset driver should i be using, as i have downloaded the one mentioned above.

Your imput is appreciated.

Damn i have looked for the reason of my strange system crash for almost 2 weeks and i found people have the same problems with me here finally!
I use two raptor 74g in a strip raid using nv raid and encounter crash when ever i downloading sth within 1 hour, i have swaped everything including go from a8nsli deluex to silent version, changed hard disks twice and sound card, s-ata connecter line, PSU....etc.
Now i am convinced this is a bug caused by the new bios and/or the new nv chipset driver.

any rumor about the hotfiix release date??

Wow thank god its not only me.

I also have an Asus SLI Premium board and for about a month my system has been rock solid stable in terms of the network connection (I was using the marvell yukon controller with latest drivers from windows update). Last night my connectiong started to time out after 10-30 min. I thought it was maybe my internet connection, but the whole day today the same thing.

I started to play around the bios etc, and I ended up enabling all the controllers, I plugged my network cable into the bottom jack, and in network setup I bridged all the sh!t together. So far I have a network cable is unplugged at the bottom of my screen but for now my connection is working. We will see if it times out in the next few hours. If it does I am going to try these beta 6.67 drivers.

So just to clarify, the bottom jack is for nvidia controller and the top one for marvell yukon?

Also another thing I find ridiculous, my connection works perfect for almost a month and now all the sudden it started to time out, wtf.

All,
I can confirm an issue regarding the nVidia on board LAN.

Sometimes it does not connect correctly to my LAN. No issues with the Marvell NIC.

I have never run the nVidia Firewall but I do run the new 6.70 driverset.

Hope this helps.

I have a SLI-DELUXE but LAN's are the same as the Premium, I have the same problems until I change in the option that allow the WinXP to disable the lan card for energy savings.
I use the 6.70 divers from Nivia and Bios 1015.

I suspect this problem is hardware related. The LAN chip on my first a8n sl premium actually cooked itself as soon as i first turned the board on. It smoked up totally leaving a brown and blistered IC on the PCB and a stinking room. Was quite impressive really.

The replacement board has been having the same LAN data corruption problems reported here... sometimes it works, often it doesn't.

I have to agree, that this entire board is really a beta ... and we are the testers... Well done ASUS, you've lost me as a future customer.

Had the same problem. Mine first appeared after installing new Sil3114 drivers from Microsoft Update, and installing Nvidia 6.66 at the same time. First thought I had was power supply due to some power flickering. Tested the supply, and the -5v was showing bad. Swapped it out. Worked. For about 15 minutes. Things rapidly degenerated from there. Kept getting BSOD, and they finally started happening in Safe Mode. Then I started getting serious read/write errors from the system drive. Ahhh, I thought. Hard drive. Took it out. Disabled the Sil controller just as a precaution. Reinstalled to one of the other drives. Everything was fine until I installed 6.66 again. Bam. BSOD. On a hunch I rolled back all of the nVidia drivers. Everything is fine again.
I've tried disabling NCQ and it doesn't work for me. I also still get BSOD and spontaneous re-boots unless I roll back all of the nVidia drivers. In spite of all this I don't believe it necessarily is a problem with the drivers, but rather with something else causing a problem with the drivers. Event viewer yields no clues as to what the cause is.

I have a A8N SLI Deluxe with an Athlon 64 3700+ 3 gigs of ram 2-160gb and 1-200gb all Maxtor hard drives. All Sata on the nVidia bus. An Asus N6800GT video card and an Audigy 2 ZS Paltinum sound card.
I really believe the problem may be with the Creative drivers. I had some odd things happen after I installed the EAX 4.0 drivers.
Just a thought.

I just got my board and the nv nic registers as being connected and has an ip and everything but i can't ping or access anything on the web or my network...

I don't have the nvidia firewall installed but haven't tried installing old drivers. Should installing the old drivers fix the problem or is an RMA inevitable

i agree with everyone on the active armor issue with the nvidia port, and as for the yukon port, i go directly to the yukon site and in their driver section , they have a driver package that you download, and when you go into device manager, browse to where you unpacked the driver at and select the driver file, then you'll have two drivers to choose from, i've been using the generic driver, because i believe it is for motherboards that have the lan built on. Since i started using that driver i have not had an issue with the yukon controller,
i hope that helps a little here's the link for the driver download

It's a bit late but now 6.70 is out and the firewall still doesn't work. I've tried many different releases going as far back as 4.70 I think (which worked 100000 times better than anything else and was still bad). For some people it causes blue screening, others it randomly kicks off their ethernet port for a brief period, and it only takes a day before apache starts crashing and the firewall ceases to function.

I am formatting YET again because I can't seem to remove this ******.

Also I've been told not to use any more nvidia drivers than you have to. Do not use the IDE driver, and if you have nvidias USB2 driver, do not use that (only way to uninstall is to format).

Hi everyone!

I have had so many issues with the A8N-SLI Premium and there's still unresolved issues. This is the 2nd board I'm on and maybe nearing the 3rd. My major issue is CPU usage. All my games run at 100%. I had CPU lag spikes when playing games such as BF2, Oblivion and so on. I disabled on board LAN and sound and threw in a D-Link Net card and a soundblaster X-Fi EM. The net card had hugely increased performance and removed 98% of the lag spikes however when you get in closer to the action FPS drops noticeably around 32-42.

So the on board LAN was causing a bottleneck. However the CPU usage is still 100%. I know this isn't normal with a reasonable spec'd system as other clan mates have lower spec'd systems and their CPU usage is around 40% whilst playing BF2 online. I don't have overheating issues. CPU max temp is 32-35 degrees. MB max temp is 37-40. Checked with Everest Ultimate Edition.

I have tried so many fresh installs of XP SP2 and all versions of drivers, running 1 Vid card, non overclocking, you name it. The only improvement I have made to date is the disabling of on board LAN and installing a Net card. This alone was INCREDIBLE however there still is a bottle neck resulting in the 100% CPU usage. I'm at my wits end. I'm loosing major performance because of this. BIOS is 1302. I'm beginning to think that maybe the pipelines on the board are stuffed. Northbridge? Conflict/s? I don't know.

I get random lock-ups when gaming where a sound will keep looping then total silence and bam, back to normal. Sometimes it freezes and I have to hard restart.

SO FRUSTRATING.

Has anybody else experienced this and if so found out what was causing it and whether or not you found a solution besides putting a fist through your computer???

I've been using the this mobo for the past 1-2 months and no problems so far. The only problem I encountered in the first place was that my wireless keyboard and mouse did not work properly. I was getting tremendous lagging time using them both being hooked up to the USB located in the back. Then I decided to get a Belkin USB hub and now I have all my usb devices hooked up to this hub and no problems so far.

As far as the LAN integrated card, I have the Yucom disabled on BIOS and only the NVidia turned on and no problem so far. I installed the original drivers from the cd that came inside the box and I haven't updated to any drivers available in the web. My bios revision is 1009. Using Opteron 165 running at 1944 MHz, x 9.0 multiplier and 216 MHz HTT. I don't know how that happened coz I didn't do anything to overclock my cpu! it just happened one day automatically oh well. I don't see a need to manually overclock this cpu coz I'm very satisfied with my current performance taking in consideration that I had an Athlon XP 2500+ barton core before

Notes: I have NV firewall OFF, cool and quiet OFF, yucom OFF
