Asus A8R-MVP ram question...

I am currently running this motherboard, and I have been considering upgrading to 2GB of ram. Since I currently have 1 GB of Kingston Hyper-X (2 x 512mb), the cheapest route would be to add another 2x512mb kit. I am running my ram with a 183mhz divider for a speed of 227mhz (2.5-3-3-7 @2.8V). I have not been able to run my ram @ 1T at any speed, which kind of pisses me off a little. The system is still quite fast and ram benchmarks are pretty good. The question I am wondering is if I will still be able to run the ram @ 227mhz if all 4 banks are populated since I'm already running @ 2T. I don't want to buy the ram and find out I have to return it. Any one have any opinons?

My system specs are as follows:
A64 3200 @ 2.5Ghz (250mhz x 10) with AC Freezer 64 PRO
1 GB Kingston Hyper-X @ 227mhz (2.5-3-3-7 @2T)
Asus A8R-MVP MB
HIS X1800XT
Seagate 7200.8 200GB SATA drive
NEC 3550 DVD burner
Antec Neopower 480W PS
Antec Super LanBoy

I could run 4x512 of Corsair 4400c25 up to 250mhz stable on my A8R-MVP, that was at 2T of course.

Mezzanine, thanks for the reply. I think that I *should* be ok since the only issue seems to be the 1T vs 2T timings. Were you able to run @ 250mhz 1T with only 2 dimms installed? I am using the latest bios, and I can't even run @ 200mhz 2-3-2-7 @1T, regardless of voltage. I know it isn't the ram, as I ran it in my Abit AV8 at those settings for almost a year with no problem.

Meh, i have this POS mobo too, & i'm gonna go ahead & guess it's not going to clock as high with 4 dimms.

But till you try it, there's really no way to know.

You might just have to run 3T to get 4 dimms working

Grooge, if you look at my OP, you will see that I am alreay running @ 2T. My main concern is having to reduce my memory speed in order to run 4 dimms. I am still kicking myself for not ordering a 2GB kit before.

i'm running 2 1 gig sticks of ocz 3200 ddr "titanium" edition in my a8r-mvp. and let me tell you guy,,this thing screams bloody murder!!!! and i run at 1t settings. BUT I DO NOT OVERCLOCK!! i run my athlon 64 x2(toledo core) at it's recommended 1.35 volts, and all settings at stock. i have yet to have 1 "hiccup" from it yet. my suggestion to you is go for the gusto and grab you the 2 gig pack of the ocz 3200 d.d.r. titanium edition memory and call it a day. ocz also warranty's this memory for life!!

best of luck to you.

Hey man, i wanted to reply and let you know that i found out quite alot about the board in the last few days. First of all, my specs:

AMD FX-55 @ 2.81 w/ XP-120
2 x 512 OCZ Platinum rev 2 @ 510 1:1 w 2.5-3-3-8 timmings (1T)
eVGA 7900GTX @ 690/1700
A8R32-MVP Deluxe @ 255
Audigy 2 platinum
etc...etc....

Now, what i found out.....first of all i thought i had to RMA my board because i couldnt even get my ram to work at 500 1:1 even though my "old" DFI Ultra-D would allow me to go as high as ddr 560 1:1 at 2.8v. I would get blue screens everytime i played an intensive game like COD2. Nothing i tried helped. So the day before i was gonna rap it up and send it back i decided to raise the voltage on my ram. 2.9, helped but id still get blue screens only it would take much longer than at 2.8v. So i tried once more at 2.95 and EVERY thing was fine. No more blue screens and its as stable as all hell. Everything runs VERY cool, an example is my MB runs at 32C and my processor at load gets to about 45C. My DFI Ultra-D MB would idle at 44C and my FX-55 would get as high as the mid 50s. I couldnt be happier with this board. I ran 3dmark 2001se overnight and still no problems. I picked 2001 because it seems to be the most sensitive of all the 3dmarks. Try and raise the voltage and i bet you will be presently surprized. I NEVER thought id run my memory at anything more than 2.85 but maybe the voltage runs low on the Asus A8R32-MVP, who knows but it fixed it and i have gotten as high as DDR 590 1T,1:1 (2.5-3-4-8) and still no problems. I dont know about four dims but i do know that in Sandra im getting 8,025 mb/s bandwith and thats higher than my DFI board. And its wisper quite, i hear my monitor huming over my pc. I love my board but it took days for me to figure it out. Try 2.9V and i bet youll be golden. Sorry for the long post, but i hope this helps!
