Mine freezes too, and once I caught the "freeze" with task manager open. I was able to use the keyboard to tab through it, and saw that while no process was reporting using more than 1 or 2% (system idle was near 100%), the cpu usage tab showed core 0 at 100% and core 1 at average (1-5%).

Usually when the freeze occurs it just slows down considerably for 2-3 seconds and then stops responding.

What's going on here?

Ran memtest with no errors. disabled cool & quiet. Will run and see what happens. I also read that fast write should be disabled in the bios? By default it is enabled. Any comments? Also my temps look ok. 44C at idle.

Ironic, I was going to get on the forum and post something related to this. Have you guys all flashed your BIOS using the ASUS Windows BIOS flash tool? There is a new BIOS available. Once I did this, every crash I had experienced in a myriad of applications stopped. I kept getting horribly annoying errors, and it all boiled down to a quick upgrade of the BIOS......Good luck!

I have bios 1013. I tried updating to 1014 a few weeks back but it failed, and left me without a computer for 5 days So that's a last resort now.

However, after rolling back the Marvell Yukon driver from 8.35 to 8.32, I haven't experienced any freezes/lockups. *knocks on wood*

crimson 117...you can't imagine how happy I am coming across this thread. I've been tearing out my hair trying to isolate the random freezes and since windows never recorded any errors, well the freezing could have been caused by almost any hardware or software issue. I knew the freezing started around the end of July which was the time I upgraded to the new beta version of msft anti-spyware as well as some other updates. Removing them didn't stop the freezing. There have been numerous updates lately for the marvell ethernet driver which I have been taking due to an issue of intermittent cable modem dropouts over the past several months. I found out last night that others in my area have experienced the same issue of drop outs with the toshiba pcx1100 modem due to some upgrades by cox cable that only affects this modem. A new motorola modem fixed that problem and now rolling back the marvel driver should fix the freezing. Man o man...2 issues solved!

Thanks so much!

I have been sent crazy because of this in the past two months, and kinda figured this out by myself. Just now I googled for it.

And I'm afraid this is not exclusive to the A8V, since it happens with my P4P800-E Deluxe as well. Same story, it freezes regularly if I install the Yukon driver from Microsoft's website. Yet the original driver seems to go nuts from time to time, saying that the cable is unplugged.

I'm not really surprised that MS would screw its own system (they do that from the beginning), but I'd think they'd have addressed this by now. Oh well, what am I complaining about? It's Micro$oft.

I don't have to mention that it always worked flawlessly on my Gentoo Linux partition.

Thank you guys for figuring this out and posting about it, I was going nuts! The exact same stuff happened here after the Marvell Update, random freezes, sometimes not even related to the internet (on the surface at least!) Unfortunately it happened to me right after I had been tryin some overclocking, and it was sort of acting as though I had corrupted some drivers on my hard drive, so I was bugging out, but lo and behold, Anandtech.com had the answer once again! Thanks a ton, and anybody reading this who recently updated their Marvell Yukon Ethernet drivers but aren't really convinced that this is the problem... try it, I was a little skeptical (mainly cause of freezing during programs that don't use the internet!) but as soon as I rolled back the drivers, all of the freezing stopped immediately. And if you have automatic updates from Microsoft, you may have been updated without knowing, right? I'm not sure about that, cause I update manually, but just a thought.

Its only for critical updates (not drivers).. I'd still recommend to use automatic update, just don't update the drivers via the driver options in windows update (I never do anyways)

Hello everyone! I found this string through google because I'm having the same problem with my A8V Deluxe! I just built this computer from scratch and it freezes when idling, or when doing homework - just regular use. It never freezes when I play Half Life 2 - or hasn't yet. I have tried everything! I even tried installing Linux to see if it was a software or hardware failure - it froze with Linux too, which leads me to believe it's hardware failure. Then today a friend of mine emailed me back saying he had this exact same problem with the computer he just barely built. Turned out to be motherboard failure! He said once he swapped out his motherboard with a replacement, it worked fine. I too have updated all my drivers, rolled them back, done everything I can, wracked my brain, etc.... I've come to this point and I think I'm going to return my motherboard and buy a new one to see if that works. Has anyone used the advice above, and has it worked?

5 hours and still going strong. I was reading in other forums that Marvell's latest driver is causing lots of people MEGA problems and has become a huge issue. They are currently working to resolve it. What a mess.
