Is this rev.2? Is this one of the best boards for AMD S939 CPUs?

Hey I'm building a rig very similar to yours. I'm trying to decide between the 90nm version of the 3500+ or the older one. How are the temps of the CPU under load? I'm also going to order the A8V board, pretty simple overclocking to 2.4Ghz? I look forward to seeing your reply

If you have a rev2.0 a8v ( ->> PCI lock) its damn easy to go 2.4g. Just raise fsb to 220 and vcore from 1.5 to 1.55-1.6. thats all. i am running perfectly stable @ 2.42 (11*220) and you could possibly get even higher with good cooling and good memory. just an advice, buy some good memory modules.

if you go with the OCZ 4200 ones (like the one i am using) be aware that you might not achieve the best latiencies around (2-2-5-2 etc) working them overclocked (and 1:1 of course) since these are 533mhz memories and have optimized latencies for higher than 400mhz speed.Though I am sure that sticking with stock fsb with give you tight and small latencies of about 2-2-5-2. I used to work with 2.5-3-3-6 but after some minor instabilities (like random resets in windows, something like once after 20+ hourse of continuous use) I let the auto settings on which is 3-4-4-8. Not the tightest ones but I still get 66k in aquamark, 12k in 3dmark03 and 6k+ in sandra memory b/w so I dont complain. I could probably test with 2.5-4-4-6 or something but to be honest I dont have the time to do so. By the way these memory modules are guaranteed to work in 2.8v and something like up to 3.1v wich is a big plus for overclocking them. Anyway since they are a bit expensive (I bought those for £200 (about $300) you might want to go with other name brands pc-3200 ones like corsair (wich promise 2-2-5-2 at 400mhz) or Geil etc wich come a bit cheaper (somewhere between $30-$50). The whole point is to stick with name brand memories like corsair, ocz, geil etc and not some random cheap 3200 ones coz athlon64's integrated memory controller is a bit picky with memories. Anyway I dont think some1 would pair such a good and expensive processor with crappy memories.Originally posted by : kman79
Good memory. I'll look into the ones you have on your sig. Thanks for replying

I was actually looking into some Corsair and OCZ RAM modules. I'll receive my first batch of parts today from new egg, Only thing left to order is the board, processor and RAM, I'll do that next week. One last question, I believe the Rev. 2 of the board was out before the 90nm CPUs, did you have to DL a new Bios or it worked right out of the box? Ohh, one last thing, does the XP-120 Heatsink fit in with no issues, like caps being in the way and such? Did it install pretty straight forward? Thanks for the help
