Currently the best. It is more stable and I have never purchased outside of Asus for the last 4 years. I run an ATI X800XT PE and didn't want to get the nvidia board just my preference I know it would work fine but options to options I feel I made the right choice.

You can wait for PCI-Express boards but why wait for a good Pci-express video card when it is hard to find a good AGP card these days.

It s a good board, very stable

I had an MSI k8n neo2, which was rated great in many reviews, real world use shows many problems with it, do a search and see

I have always went with Asus until my neo2 mishap, they are quality boards, u'll be happy

I bought it at a local dealer 5 weeks ago , so I imagine with the turnover newegg has it will be a rev 2.0

kman, they just posted up an article on how the 90nm AMD chips are running cooler than the 130nm parts. Its on anandtechs news.

Hey I'm building a rig very similar to yours. I'm trying to decide between the 90nm version of the 3500+ or the older one. How are the temps of the CPU under load? I'm also going to order the A8V board, pretty simple overclocking to 2.4Ghz? I look forward to seeing your reply

If you have a rev2.0 a8v ( ->> PCI lock) its damn easy to go 2.4g. Just raise fsb to 220 and vcore from 1.5 to 1.55-1.6. thats all. i am running perfectly stable @ 2.42 (11*220) and you could possibly get even higher with good cooling and good memory. just an advice, buy some good memory modules.

if you go with the OCZ 4200 ones (like the one i am using) be aware that you might not achieve the best latiencies around (2-2-5-2 etc) working them overclocked (and 1:1 of course) since these are 533mhz memories and have optimized latencies for higher than 400mhz speed.Though I am sure that sticking with stock fsb with give you tight and small latencies of about 2-2-5-2. I used to work with 2.5-3-3-6 but after some minor instabilities (like random resets in windows, something like once after 20+ hourse of continuous use) I let the auto settings on which is 3-4-4-8. Not the tightest ones but I still get 66k in aquamark, 12k in 3dmark03 and 6k+ in sandra memory b/w so I dont complain. I could probably test with 2.5-4-4-6 or something but to be honest I dont have the time to do so. By the way these memory modules are guaranteed to work in 2.8v and something like up to 3.1v wich is a big plus for overclocking them. Anyway since they are a bit expensive (I bought those for £200 (about $300) you might want to go with other name brands pc-3200 ones like corsair (wich promise 2-2-5-2 at 400mhz) or Geil etc wich come a bit cheaper (somewhere between $30-$50). The whole point is to stick with name brand memories like corsair, ocz, geil etc and not some random cheap 3200 ones coz athlon64's integrated memory controller is a bit picky with memories. Anyway I dont think some1 would pair such a good and expensive processor with crappy memories.

I was actually looking into some Corsair and OCZ RAM modules. I'll receive my first batch of parts today from new egg, Only thing left to order is the board, processor and RAM, I'll do that next week. One last question, I believe the Rev. 2 of the board was out before the 90nm CPUs, did you have to DL a new Bios or it worked right out of the box? Ohh, one last thing, does the XP-120 Heatsink fit in with no issues, like caps being in the way and such? Did it install pretty straight forward? Thanks for the help

I didnt touch the bios. Worked like a gem out of the box. And XP-120 installed like a breeze. Its doesnt get stuck on anything like capacitors etc. Its heat pipes get very close to the memories but not close enough to be of trouble. And since ocz use these nice big copper heatsinks I dont think you will have problem with other memories. I am not sure about corsairs pro modules, the ones with the leds on them. They seem pretty big, tall and fat. But in general I dont think you will have the slightest problem. I highly recommend XP-120 (paired with a good fan that is). My YS-Tech is a bit big and noisy. Its spefications are : 125cfm (more than enough) at 40.5 db. But I dont have a problem with noise. Cpu works at about 37-38 idle and less than 50 under load. And thats working at 2.42ghz (11*220) instead of 2.2ghz(11*200). One last thing about XP-120. You have to change the stock braket with the bundled one (using the bundled screws instead of the stock ones. And in order to secure the fan on the braket much force is required, dont worry , just push hard until you hear the click (I was afraid to push hard but since this is a BIG cooler thermalright had to make the clips pretty hard to ensure effective installation and placement).

BLUEman, sorry for Hijacking your thread but the only place I know to get a sure thing for the Rev 2. is
Monarchcomputer.com

Thanks for the reply, you've pretty much decided my final decision, 3500+, A8V and the XP-120. I plan on using the most powerful panaflow Fan with the XP-120. I would rather have it cool than quiet. Thanks, you really helped alot

sure panaflow is more than efficient (besides thermalright approves and suggest it.)

good luck and once you build it give us some benchmark numbers

YES... You must have 1.07 bios or the new 1.08 beta bios in order to install windows. I was only able to boot to one stick of 512 in B1 slot before flash. After the flash you can install windows and run Dual DDR.

Im going to be installing this board, and Ill need to do this flash.

Whats the method for going about it in DOS. I can't seem to spot any guides on the Asus' website.

on another computer make a bootable floppy in windows. under format options on the a: drive

copy the flash utility off their site and the new 1.07 bios onto the floppy

a:>aflash /ibios.rom

so another view on the command line would look like

a:>aflash /iasusa8vdeluxe.107

So typing in aflash /ibios.rom will flash it with the 'A8V1007.AMI' bios?

Im just a little confused about this one, cus it seems different than other times Ive flashed a mobo.
