I just got the Asus culs2 and i thought i'd post some info.
The mobo is working very nicely, even after the installation on top of VIA drivers, from my previous setup.
Sandra Proffesional bmarks :
Memory CPU / FPU : 344 / 364
(memory timing set by SPD in the BIOS)
HDD speed : 15315
(IBM 20Gb 7200 rpm set at udma 33)
CPU / FPU : 2637 / 1306
( coppermine 650 o'ced at 975)
Multimdia MMX / SSE : 3071 / 2088

There seems to be a problem with 3DMark200 !
It crashes even at AGP 2x. And it didn't use
to crash on my old via mobo. I don't know whether
this is due to some remnants of my previous setup
or because of the lack of AGP aperture choise in the bios !!
The Asus monitoring stinks ! Mobo temperature 28 degrees celsious and cpu temperature 22 degrees !
Geez surely even the 38 cfm Delta isn't that good. The bios is 101A, i think thats the latest one. Hope there is an update which corrects this !

Overall its a nice mobo. Maybe after a clean install of Win95 i'll try for 1007. The cpu can do it, it did on my old mobo, but then i had to take the menory timings to 4:3 and that was apauling on a via mobo.

Don't you mean the CUSL2?

Anyway. Before you install windows try to do this. Back up your registry and go into regedit and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and find the enum folder. Delete all the entries in there. From what I've read on other threads that makes windows forget everything it knows about your hardware. Reboot your computer and windows should redetect all your motherboard device and do the driver install routine thingy. If that doesn't work then you'll just have to break out good ole fdisk. Have fun.

If you encounter any further problems, send it to me and I'll solve it for you.

PS you can also send the P3650e to me too for testing purposes.

DO97 thas a nice trick, may save me going through a full windoes install. I'll try it, thanks !

Pennstate i think that the problems i have are relatively minor to do what you suggest. The monitoring problem has been observed by others in the asus newsgroup, the same for the lack of the AGP aperture seting in the bios.

Where did you order the board from?

Your Sandra memory tests seem a bit low. What CAS settings are you using with the memory? I was getting 380~390 CPU and 390~410 FPU with mine at 130FSB and up (yes, it plateaued at 130FSB), at 2-2-2 with a cycle time of 6/8. This is with an Abit SE6.

Ccould you please try disabling the Quick Power On Self-Test and force the board to do the RAM count on boot? I'd like to know if it can do it and boot without problems. My SE6 couldn't, and I would like to know if this is a chipset problem, or a board problem. Thanks.

Curious: why are you installing drivers for a via chipset when you have an intel chipset???

JellyBaby, like he said in the sentence, he had VIA drivers left over on his system from his last motherboard.

JellyBaby my previous mobo was a via apollo 133 (not a) and although i uninstalled the via 4 in one drivers before the indtallation of the Asus, i still had on the control panel programs list the Viap AGP and Busmaster drivers which i had installed on top of the 4 in one drivers. The fact that they are still on the list makes me think that the via drivers were not properly uninstalled or anyway something went a little wrong.

IceStorm, you were at 133fsb with cas2 and 2-2-2 timings. I haven't played around with memory timins on the bios at all, as i mentioned these benchmarks were with memory timins by spd at 150 fsb. Moreover, i've left the SDRAM cycle timing at the (Tras / Trc) at the default 7T / 9T instead of the fater 6T / 8T. My memory is Micron Pc 133 cas 3 memory. So at 150 fsb there is no way it will run with cas 2 ! In my old motherboard it would run at cas 3 at 150 fsb only with vio set at 3.5V. The Asus has a default vio of 3.4 V (insead of the usual 3.3V) and i have left the default voltage as the default seting. Bearing in mind that the memory would not go previously at over 150 i didn't try anything with the memory timings.
I am in the uk, so i got the board from www.insight.com/uk ... they also have usa offices, www.insight.com i think. On tuesday they had 10 of these, on wednesday when i ordered it there were 4. Now probably none. I'll try the memory count later on and let you know.

IceStorm, yup it does it, i disabled the Quick Power On Self-Test and it did the count 6 times ?! or maybe i lost count then booted win98. I also played a bit with the memory timings 3-2-2 and cycle 7/9 and now Sandra gives :
CPU 401 / FPU 435
The cusl2 has no 6/8 cycle, only 7/9 and 5/7 and if i use 5/7 it doesn't always complete Sandra, threw me out once and i left it at that. Pretty much as i suspeced, my sdram doesn't go over 150 fsb.
By the waym there are two dimms, which is supposed to make things a
little bit less stable, at least according to what i have read here and there online, than in the case of one.

Yeah, it's what I feared. At least the board's getting good ram performance at CAS3 at 150FSB, though.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully I'll have mine before the end of next week.
