Just spotted this piece of news @ HardOCP

ASUS seems to inadvertently be debuting Hyper Threading Technology. What do I mean? Well, looking at the latest BIOS updates for Intel based motherboards on the ASUS website you can see that the P4T533 now has support for Hyper Threading through the latest BIOS update v.1005. That would mean that if you own an ASUS P4T5333, and possibly other boards with Intel chipsets, you don?t have to wait fot the official launch of Hyper Thread enabled boards?because you already own one.

Em...what does this mean? Does this mean that the latest BIOS for my P4T533-C (Ver. 1008) supports Hyper Threading? I've checked through the BIOS and there doesn't seem to be anything that implies it does...

P4T533 is a different board (32bit RDRAM)

P4TE / P4T533-C are pretty close relatives.

Also note your BIOS version is different than the one stated.

All that said, here's hoping our boards (P4TE/P4T533-C) will get a BIOS update to support future P4s with HyperThreading enabled!

Knowing Asus, they'll probably make us buy a new motherboard to enable hyperthreading.

For P4T-E owners, I wonder if the original 850 chipset had hyperthreading in it (just disabled).

Intel 850E is supposed to be HT ready. I'm confused with all the speculation.

From what I gather, boards with the 850E can have HT enabled via a BIOS update, however, the first CPU to have HT is the 3.06GHz. Not so long back it was speculated that the P4 (B) CPU's had HT built in but required a HT enabled Mobo/BIOS, so I guess that was not true.

I'd like to see what the realtime benefits of HT will be...

Too bad the P4T-E is an 850 board. But since the 850 and 860 are very similar (minus dual processor power), I would tend to think that the 850 can also do hyperthreading.

Looks like the P4T533-C Hyperthreading bios is here. Do regular p4's have hyperthreading, or do you need a 3.06+ processor?
