EDIT: Well, I guess it was too good to be true. (but wouldn't it be sweet?)

Opinions on this juicy rumor? Is there an MP version of the P4?

*CONFIRMED* Asus Dual P4 Board

I checked with one of my suppliers who is an Asus OEM centre, and he confirmed that Asus has produced, but not released to market, a Dual P4 board with the following specs:

Revision 1.0:
Intel 845D Chipset
AGP Pro 4x
3 DDR DIMM slots
USB2
5 PCI
1 AMR
Available Promise on-board IDE RAID

Later revisions (1.20+) are scheduled to include PCI 64/66 3.3V slots.

ETA to market approximately 2-3 weeks, however release date is uncertain.
The OEM centre already has boards, but is not allowed to release them for sale yet.
I can assure you that (barring a miracle) we will not be the first to get one of these for review

Nay say all you like, but this is the second independant source that has reported an Intel 845D chipset based dual P4 board. I think there might be something to it.

I don't think so.

The Pentium 4 itself has its SMP capabilities disabled in hardware.

I hope it's true (although I doubt it). I don't think the P4 (non-XEON) CPU's are SMP capable.

That's most definitely true for the Willamette core, but a number of people have theorized that the Northwood is not SMP disabled. It's also noteable that the tech docs for the Northwood core do not at all indicate that it is SMP disabled, and seem to make vague references to it having the capability in theory.

Of course I'm just pointing out what some have theorized as I personally am of the opinion that the Northwood core shares the same limitations as the Willamette in that respect, and of course Intel's official stance remains that SMP is not supported by the Pentium4.
