I noticed that the performance gets slower if I keep using the tablet for long periods. For example when I try to type, the letters show up after considerable delay such as a sec and the performance overall gets slightly choppy.
Anybody notice anything similar?

Changing wallpaper is fairly simple; press a spot on the screen that does not have an icon and hold your finger there for a while; it will bring up a menu to change quite a few things including wall paper.
-
the slow down (later post) seems to be an issue with honeycomb; I hope 3.1 reduces this issue.

Anyone know if there is a way to change how the background wallpaper is displayed? i know on phones you can choose to let it be static or move as you change home screens.

I ask because every time i set a wallpaper i manually crop it to size in the gallery but it never displays the full image i select, which kind the look of some images. More of a HC setting issue then an issue with the pad

I do have one issue, for whatever reason the pad will NOT see my phone when i turn on wireless tether. never shows up, tried 2 different tethering aps on the phone and nada. Which is strange because everything else can see my phone just fine when i do it

and that has nothing to do with what i posted or asked, i know how to change the wallpaper that is not the issue, the issue is it not displaying the full selected area of said wallpaper when it is changed

phones have an option to get around this, HC does not seem to have that option

Not sure if this might help as I haven't had the chance to play with it.

The above is mentioned in the tips/tricks section for the Transformer at XDA.

Will this thing charge over USB? I left mine plugged into a USB port for several hours but the battery level seems to stay the say.

I think it works if you shut the screen off. I remember someone mentioning that but I could be mistaken.

It has to be switched off to charge via USB. Either way it will take forever to charge via USB, there just isn't enough power supplied.

It's probably like the iPad, they claim it doesn't but if you leave it hooked up with the display off it'll trickle charge in ~8 hours.

not sure about the wallpaper, but if you do figure it out let me know!

for the tethering... did you try manually typing in the SSID to see if it works? I know that isn't quite what you are asking for, but it can be a workaround

that doesn't work either. seems strange wifi analyizer sees my phone broadcasting. pad wont see it

pad connects to my house just fine

There is a tethering faq at xda-developers.com; vaguely when I read it you had to root the device and make some changes to wpa_suppliant. I thought wpa_suppliant handled certs for wifi but didn't really bother to try to figure out what was happening (i.,e technical issue with wifi and pad<->phone hookeup. However, several have recommend using blue tooth; as it does not require root and uses less power. THere is also a faq for tethering with blue-tooth @ xda-developers.com

It's probably because Asus Eee pad needs infrastructure mode instead of ad hoc. The wireless tether apps you used only creates ad hoc network. That's ok for most devices but some devices and pretty much all corporate devices require infrastructure mode. I'm wondering if all Honeycomb tablets need infrastructure mode to connect.

Very few phones will do infrastructure mode. My Galaxy S phone has built-in Mobile AP program that does true infrastructure mode. I can wireless connect any WiFi device to it. You're just going to have to use the Bluetooth method til you get a phone that can do infrastructure network.

woot working through BT

What phone are you using? With my evo, I can connect via bluetooth, but have no internet access (using wireless thether app). But I can connect via wifi perfectly fine (this takes up a ton of battery life though from what I heard)

A BlackBerry 9670. I have seen a few people ask, but no one seems to get answers that I've seen. BT tether works fine on my W7 laptop, from the BB. With the Transformer I get a paired but not connected message. I can transfer files and contacts etc, but no BB profiles show up on the Transformer.

Excellent explanation; didnt even know there was such a thing as 'infrastructure' mode. This probably explains the change being made to wpa_suppliant to have the device support ad-hoc. Lovely explanation on the wiki page.

Btw this seems to be an issue with honeycomb not the transformer:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1059245.html
"This is true, and I was able to get it to tether by upgrading and using infrastructure mode, but I believe there are many things such as some corporate networks that use Adhoc.

I seriously doubt that many corporate networks are using adhoc Wifi networks!

Out of the box, Android doesn't support adhoc networks, but it can usually be enabled by editing the wpa_supplicant.conf file on rooted devices."

So that was exactly the change being made to wpa_supplicant; and now I understand.

It depends on the phone and available bt services. You don't require root on all of them. I *think* to date sprint has been the most liberal with regards to allowing tethering (or not trying to close all the loopholes without paying for the service) but your point is well taken.

I don't have a smartphone yet so i can't comment first hand (i intend to get one sometime this summer; last generation phones just didn't cut it for me and I'm sort of anti-apple) but things have finally mature to the point that there are several very good options.

Thanks, I found that article, I just didn't think it was the same one you were talking about. In your post about it you mentioned root wasn't needed. That article states you need a rooted android phone to do the tethering. I know you were talking about the TF being rooted, but some device still needs it...

I was able to pick one up locally at Fry's this morning, just in time for my trip.

They also had about 20 docks on the shelf.

It looks like it's still available for order on Bestbuy's website. So any more member reviews of the device? I do not want an IPAD 2 but I also don't want to wait till the end of the year for a decent Android tablet either.

I want a tablet to browse the web, read magazines / e-books, and watch videos. Don't care for games. Was hoping the 16gb version would fit the bill then I can get rid of my Asus netbook which is collecting dust.

Also, I thought Amazon sold it through Target? Would prefer to use some GC's I have. All I see is availability on the marketplace.
