I have the 1920x1080 version of this laptop. It is SO worth the money; I'm glad I got rid of my desktop for it.

We may have pulled the trigger a bit too fast. However, that resolution would cost about $350 more. Hopefully Mrs. Runz will be happy enough with the 1600x900.

Have you got yours yet? I'm curious how your unit looks/works...would you buy another refurb from Asus?

You have to be aware that base clock of 1.6GHz is going to suck for anything that is not multicore optimized. And lot of stuff (especially games) is not.

Don't the i-series chips clock way up when they're not using multiple cores? AFAIK, this i7m goes up to 2.8GHz for single-core use.

Intel Core i7-720QM 1.6GHz Processor with Turbo Boost Technology up to 2.8GHz

Low core count apps benefit from the speed greatly.

The g73 was touted as a gaming lap top. Of course, there were glitches that hopefully have been resolved by now. There are dozens of reviews, and people playing the latest games, at, or around max settings on Youtube, with nearly all being positive. If you can recommend a gaming lap top for less then $1200 that absolutely blows this deal away, then both Mrs Runz, and I are all ears.

Just got mine last night, works well so far, i did a complete reinstall of the OS and loaded on W7 ultimate cause i have a copy, only thing i have noticed that would make it refurbished is the =/+ key and the -/_ keys are a little rubbed off. besides that it is new.

That's what I bought last week. Difference is $350:

1. New. 1year ADW, but also came with a card to mail in to Asus that extended it to 2 years (accidental damage warranty)
2. 4x2gb RAM for 8gb, instead of 6gb
3. 1920x1080p LED vs 1600x900 on the refurb
4. 2x320gb SATA II 7200RPM drives vs 1 500 gb
5. Blu Ray player instead of cd/dvd
6. Bluetooth vs no bluetooth.

That's about all the differences..maybe webcam imaging too. I almost bought the refurb one at newegg, but I got pre-approved from my wife (LOL) to go ahead and spend a little bit more for this one. I was out of town on biz and played Fallout 3 no problems for about 3 hours and skyped the house.

I did a video and ppt presentation today on the screen itself since the DLP projector wouldn't turn on. 17.3" is a lot of real estate for a laptop.

I recommend the Targus XL backpack to tote it all. I hold the laptop, the DLP projector (which is about to be replaced) and an old 15" LCD, along with power supplies, and all my other work stuff no problem. I dual screen with it and the 15" LCD and works great. I'm really pleased with it. I wanted a desktop replacement and that is exactly what I got. I leave my company paid for Dell 11" crappy notebook at the office..unused.

Newegg has the same refurb coming back on sale around Feb. 22nd. Price last week was $909. New price is going to be $919.

However, if you contact newegg customer service and put up a stink you can get the refurbished G73jh-rbbx05 for $870.

From Oct-Dec 2010 it was selling for that price. With RAM down, screens still cheap and new chips and videocards out there's no reason to pay $900 for that refurb anymore.

Just be courteous and emphasize the point about the old price vs. all the new stuff released. Hell, Newegg just sold an open box G73jh-rbbx05 for $650 yesterday. Again, no reason why the refurb should be so high.

EDIT: Already available today for $919

Did it come with the warranty or did you purchase it seperately? That's a crazy deal if the warranty was included.

FYI, ASUS hates refurb warranty call-ins. Regardless of the problem they'll require you to ship the whole unit back in if you call the 800 number. If you need real warranty help call 510-739-3777 press 0 and have the switchboard transfer you to CUSTOMER CARE.

The 800 customer service number sends you to somewhere in the Carribean and they are beyond horrible. If surveys had a negative rating they'd get one. The 510 number gets you to the USA based customer service which ASUS denies it has. (Even the switchboard operator denied a US based customer service before actually forwarding me to them.)
