Asus GTX 750 Ti Strix 4GB

So in reading comments re this card, it seems gamers are panning it because the extra 2GB of memory is "useless". But gaming is not my focus.

What about its use for image editing? Photoshop, Capture One and maybe the new version of Lightroom all use the GPU for processing chores. Would there be any benefit for someone like me in purchasing this 4GB card over the 2GB version? Current card is a failing GTX 650.

Asus hasn't released pricing info that I've seen, guessing the 750 will come in around $200 (~$50 premium over the 2GB model). I don't know that paying more will be cost effective. Maxwell cards with 4GB seem to be limited to the 970 and above with the price holding above $300, a bit more than I want to spend unless I know for sure I'll get a proportional performance return on my investment.

There doesn't seem to be much info out there regarding the impact of various cards on 2D image editing performance, so it's hard to know when the law of diminishing returns kicks in.

Found a C1 bench, not quite sure how to interpret the results (i.e., are they linear) but my 650's score of ~ 1.1 is lagging the newer cards for sure.

I don't how accurate GPU-Z is in reporting VRAM usage, but it shows my 650's 2GB being almost fully utilized at times when running PS. Capture One tech says there's no big advantage to having much more than 2GB now, but also says that's subject to change as their programming/technology evolves. I expect if I were batching in C1 and applying certain PS filters at the same time that the extra memory would come in handy.

Yeh..if you really want 4GB for work reasons but don't want to spend in the 970 range...then I'd also wait for the 960.

Should only be a few days before it's available and it should definitely be priced lower than a 970 (for obvious reasons)

Alternatively, if the 960 4GB will end up being too expensive for you, the AMD R9 270X also comes with a 4GB version. You might want to take a look in that direction.
