Turns out the triple slot cooler might not have been such a good idea in the end, uh? Granted if it was properly attached this probably wouldn't be an issue.

Did anyone who bought one of these experience this issue?

Ouch, looks like ASUS was kind of rude during their investigation as well.

oh no I am waiting for my 7970 estimated delivery March 6 (Amazon), it is the triple slot cooler, I wonder if it also has the same problem. Maybe I should cancel it and get a reference design instead.

I assumed cooling would be better and I wasn't planning on crossfire anyway. I thought it would give me better overclocking headroom since I wasn't planning on liquid cooling anyway.

I've long ago sworn off Asus video cards after having two fail, of two different gpus, and taking 3 RMA's and two months to get the first one fixed (a 3870 TOP) and over three months and three RMA's to get a second failed card fixed (a 4870 TOP).

But Asus motherboards I've RMA'd have always had a fast turnaround and were always fixed/replaced the first time.

Seems the Asus video card and motherboard sections of the company are vastly different in almost all aspects. Horrible customer service with their video cards, excellent with their motherboards and most recently a dead LCD monitor.

I used one of their asus direct cu cards before,it was a 560 ti and i did a very common oc and it didn't last me a day before it just went batshit crazy and failed on me.

If that was because of bad vram cooling i wouldn't know but cooling and the voltage was in perfectly good safe ranges, the first and last asus card i purchase.

Been loving evga i got this cherry of a gtx560 non ti 2gb and its clocked at asus direct cu2 top speeds of 925/1050 @ 1.037v stock voltage and its just awesome.

I think you just happened to have two chance poor experiences.

I had a ASUS AM2+ mobo RMA take 6 months to return to me after they sent it to the wrong place.

The internet is littered with these types of horror stories even from the best companies, sometimes you just get unlucky.

Hopefully ASUS owns up to its mistake and compensates those that got the card before recall. One more reason to get reference designs, I suppose.

You guys are making me worried, I was just considering purchasing an asus video card. Maybe I shouldnt. Its used and off the forum but under warranty(supposedly), but I didnt realize their rma service was so bad if thats true.

Doesnt Asus do cross-ship if you ask?

Sheesh...is another good brand going down the tubes? Hopefully EVGA keeps their rep up.

What's else is new? Asus has been using it's reputation to markup their products while cost-cutting on quality for years. Even my barebones Biostar board TP67B+ has better quality VRM capacitors than their P8P67s that costs $80 more.

Asus usually cost more than others, so you expect them to offer better quality... sadly not always true.

Sapphire make the best quality vs cost cards out there.

Yea, didn't ASUS switch to selling rebranded ECS motherboards not too long ago?

I don't specifically avoid them (especially if the price is right), but I think Asus in general is overrated.

Probably a coincidence but the first DOA product I've ever bought was an Asus M5a97-EVO m/b. Although to be fair I still have a Asus P4T (P4 RDRAM) m/b that still works from 2001. I like Gigabyte and I think I'll stick with them from now on for m/b and vid cards.

The first DOA product I got was an Asus GTX 550 Ti. I didn't have to deal with Asus as I bought it through Amazon which has a fantastic DOA policy.

There may be some truth to Asus quality going down.

Cancelled my asus 7970 dc2 . Did not want to risk it having the same issue as the 7850. Ordered thw gigabyte 7970 instead.

Asus did finally change the mother board of my laptop G53 after sending it to them twice. Had to pay for shipping the first time. All they did was format the and re install of the os.

Never had a gigabyte product before hope there cs is good.

It's crazy they have that cooler hanging off the card without a backplate at all.

I think if you buy high end boards like ROG, Tuff, Workstation type of board. You will get what you paid for, any of the low end stuff...well good luck. If it come video card and you reliability and great. Just stick EVGA, I love their service, and customer is superb. I love ASUS mobo's, but only the high end boards. For video cards, go with EVGA.

Too bad they don't make AMD cards.
