Asus iPanel

Can anyone give me an opinion of the Asus iPanel? I read in some older posts that it didn't work all that great and that it caused some problems. I figured they've been out a while so maybe they function better. All the official reviews I've read speak highly of it, but I want to here from people who actually use it. Are there better alternatives than the iPanel?

Rainguy was telling me that the new model IPanel works great. The earlier versions were problematic for many.

These are a few, I think most of them were written when the iPanel first came out. I also came across one review (I think it was Tom's) where they were reviewing another piece of hardware, were having problems, disconnected the iPanel, and that fixed their problem. I can't find that url, but if I do, I'll post it. Anyway, thanks for the responses, if anyone else wants to put their two or three cents in, have a nut.

I have the base iPanel, and it works fine. Gives you basic info on what's going on inside the computer, has a couple of extra USB ports, and fills up that extra bay I had. For $20 bucks it's a pretty nice little addition. Of course, you do have to have an ASUS board, and I think there are some review links at NewEgg under the product description.

He said their problem was documented on other sites but I haven't found them yet. That article was written last fall I think, and with Asus releasing so many new boards since then, I kinda figure they've got it all worked out. Another concern is a couple older posts I ran across earlier said the iPanel affected their system performance. I don't like the sound of that. I can't find those posts, either.

Thanks RobSan! Got a silly question for you: looking at your iPanel, how hard would it be to pull the faceplate off to paint it?

Yes, I too had numerous iPanel problems with the earlier models with Promise cards, some SCSI cards and some 3Com Nics. I have recently installed both the deluxe and standard iPanels in many systems and have had very few issues. There is one minor problem with the hot keys default actions overriding the MS Office functions and there is one setting in the BIOS about refreshing settings every 5 secs that must be set to disable. If you don't, you get a rhythmic skipping sound every 5 seconds during any audio playback. Other then that, they work like a charm and look really cool.
