Yo folks... did a search and still didn't find an answer of which AM2 board to buy. Gonna be starting over again with CPU/board (sold my winchester 3200), so I was planning to try AM2. Gonna get some cheap DDR2 RAM (667) and about a gig-2 gigs of it. Mainly, I was wondering if anyone's used the M2V or read about it, because I haven't seen any reviews of it. The M2V looks like the optimal board for me, because it's ATX, Asus, and has 2 ATA ports (unlike nForce5 chipset). Was planning to start with a sempron 3000, then buy an X2 4200 or higher, as the prices drop. Please let me know what you think, was hoping to order next week or the week after!

I am pretty much in the same quandry you are, I have a 3800+ AM2 cpu sitting here and can't decide which motherboard to go with. Should I wait for the ATI based boards set to release in early July or grab one that is available now and get on with it. Kind of wish I had purchased a socket 939 but oh well. Jay.

I just noticed this board on Newegg this morning.
It looks like a very nice solution; especially if you want an AMD system, WITHOUT the nForce chipset.

I'm suprised that it is based off of the Via K8T890 chipset though. I really didn't realize it had the capability to be implemented for DDR2. I thought the K8T900 was supposed to be Via's future chipset, but I have yet to see any sign of it.

I don't really mind any chipset over another, but I've heard the best things about the nForce 4. To be honest, I've never actually had an nvidia chipset that I can remember, just Via and ULI. I saw a cool Asus nForce 4 on Monarch, but it's micro ATX. I'm almost tempted to just buy it since I only use a PCIe video card and a PCI sound card as expansion cards. Mainly I guess I just need 2 ATA ports and gigabit ethernet!

Shooting themselves in the foot with this 1 IDE lark

Gigabyte M55PLUS-S3G or the Asus M2NPV-VM is what i am looking at, but performace may suffer.
Was even considering the ECS based on ati 600, not good at oc and hd performance is apparently poor

What are they playing at SATA is not that good, exception raptors.

I have had sata drives since they first launched with dual power 4 and 7 pin so imo there is not much between ide and sata, i got a couple of sata II drives as well, It's all just a name.

DFI was what i was hoping to buy but heard they going to be one ide as well.

What to do

How about the Asus M2N-E, a nice nForce 570 ultra chip. Now just to wait for the price-drop and getting an X2 3800+ for 160 euros.

Guess what? The memory controller is in the CPU (OMG...!!!! I feel stupid now!), not the chipset, so all that the CPU need to connect to the chipset is the hypertransport link... and guess what? AM2 has the HTT link!!

I decided to just skip AM2 for the moment... ordered a 939 combo, with a 3500, MSI Neo4-F, 7900 GT and 2x1gb Patriot CL2 memory. I'm still curious what good AM2 boards there are.

Despite all the negative reviews, my MSI K9N Platinum NF570U board is doing very well. Not one overheat to date, and it OC's like crazy! (I hit over 3.2 GHz at 1.55 Core voltage on my 3500+), currently doing 2.75 at stock, prime stable.

If you are willing to take a chance I'd say the MSI is a great board, some ppl have problems with theirs and give negative reviews on Newegg because they are using the wrong RAM voltages or the such...but I can say that at least in my case the board has been problem free
