Asus Maximus X38 MB still okay?

This will sound crazy, but I bought an Asus Maximus Formula MB over a year ago and have still not opened the box. I am about to put the rest of my computer together with a Q9550, GTX 285, and a 650W power supply. Add in water cooling and a other small gadgets, and I am wondering if I should buy a new MB or just use the Asus Maximus. This is the original, not version 2. With so many new MB's out there I wonder if I should buy one of those or just use the one I have and have never opened. I obviously can't return it, since that time has already passed. Any suggestions? Will I really be hurting if I use it or should I spend money on a newer one?I don't want to have to change it for a few years.

I do not see any problem. As long as you do not intend to overclock to extreme frequencies it will do just fine.
There were many mobos launched after yours, but only 2 chipsets are newer for the socket 775, X48 and P45. So you are not far behind, and if you run it stock or even oced I bet you will not notice a single difference.

This board has the exact same layout as the X48 version and you can even flash the bios to the X48 Rampage Formula, the only disadvantage is that is has an older revision of X38/X48 chipset, but performance wise there is really no diference. This board only supports adjusting 1 set of GTL ref's so can't overclock a quad as far as some other boards, but it still a really nice board and I wouldn't replace it at this point unless your going to i7 and X58
