asus or MSI?

I'm going to buy a 64 3200 and can't decide if i should get the MSI k8neo2 Platinum edition or the ASUS 3rd eye. I'd like to know ur opinions.

Well, first off I think you mean Asus A8V. Abit makes the 3rd eye. Now if you mean betweent the MSI and Asus, then:

MSI, if you are going to oc (can be quirky but once setup very fast board)

Asus if you want stablility and aren't going to oc too much.

asus a8n-sli posted on there website now u have a 939 pin cpu? then u will only need to upgrade ur gpu to a pci express

I'd get the Abit AV8 3rd eye or the ASUS AV8 Deluxe. Both are the K8T800 Via chipset. The nforce is marginally faster in some tests.

Make your decision based on what features you want not speed because they are too close to call

agreed...

also, it speaks volumes to me that asus is on the forefront of overclocker's needs. they waited on the a8v revision with the agp/pci lock until they were certain it would work, and made no apologies for it. first to break 10000 on 3dmark. they really seem to be keeping the enthusiast in mind, not just on a performance standpoint, but a reliability standpoint.

I have the A8V board and it is great with everything. It is super fast and overclocks great. Im running at ddr 490 now with my fx-53 at around 2575. Ive
heard people have had more problems with MSI then asus considering the 939 boards.

always asus, never msi. asus is considerably the best motherboard manufacturer and msi, well isnt. not even close.

asus > gigabyte, abit, dfi, ... > msi > asrock.

definitely ASUS over MSI. Never had any problems with the 5 Asus boards I've had. I had the Neo platinum. Couldn't get PS2 port to work 50% of the time. Thought it was just my bad luck till I searched the threads (check MSI's own user forum). Contemplated MSI neo 2 platinum, but apparently it's just as hit or miss. Either you've got a massive oc'er or a buggy board. Heard reports of people getting multiple rma's till they got a "sweet" board. I eventually settled on a Soltek 939 board though I might go over to ASUS since they are "local" to me and there are lots more post/forums out there to help if I need help.

ordered a msi, booted up first try, overclocks great.. tons of features.. my first MSI product and i am very very pleased with it. Just becasue a few vocal people say they didnt work doesnt mean the majority are the same way. You can find the same "this brand sucks" posts about every piece of hardware made.

While I admit ASUS has been getting better over time, MSI is a good manufacturer. I have used MSI boards for a long time and only had to RMA once. Have also used Epox, Abit, ASUS and rarely had problems with any of them.

asus has been getting better? how old are you? asus has been top notch since ~1990.

First time builder. Used the MSI board. I love the dual gigabit ethernet ports. This board hasn't given me any serious problems, although the Core Center app they shipped with it doesn't report system voltages or CPU temperatures accurately. Otherwise, it's a great board.

Yeah corecenter is crap.. and MSI boards will undervolt your CPU by ~1 volt or so, use MBM for a more accurate monitor.. other than that, the MSI Neo2 is a fantastic board.

Hmm original poster hasn't replied yet...

But I'm getting the MSI because the XP-120 can fit on it and fit in my case at the same time. By having the CPU in the center of the board, the heatsink then doesn't hang off the board (which fits right up against the edge of my case) so. They're both very good boards, the choice is up to what you want. MSI for overclock, Asus for stability.

asus for quality, msi to save 5-10 bucks.

had an msi neo2 platinum..
difficult to set up
started randomly rebooting, then eventually would'nt boot into windows.
took it back and went with trusty old asus a8v

the nforce boards seems to score a little higher in performance in some areas, but when you don't have a stable set up.... performance becomes a secondary concern

check the reviews, msi neo2 is the best 939 board. So long as you get a properly working one of course. There have been problems with some, but obviously you only hear from those with probs. If the board is a-ok, neo2 is the best 939 board out right now.
