asus p3v4x herc gts 64, only 2x agp even though the card and board

my card only comes up as 2x agp even though both the card and board support 4x and fast writes, any ideas on this one.

It's a known problem with this board and the Geforce 2 cards...no fixes yet.

spitefulmonkey: I recently upgraded to a Creative 64mg gts, and was bummed at only having 2x ( even though everyone who compared the 2 said there was very little performance difference). I have tried all of the registry hacks, none worked, until I tried this one. You must disable sidebanding, and also fast writes, in the bios( at least I did, as I would get lock- ups if I didn't ). I have 2 files, a " turn on 4x" and a "turn off" 4x. Since I don't remember the site I got em from, I will e-mail them to you directly. Also, I am using the detonator 532 drivers: the new 618's caused me way too many problems. Let me know how you make out.

after installing the via fix for the 4x problem, i have problems for my directx , test direct draw won't work
n also the test direct 3d

I think I have the same problem as you. I went to that tweak site to enable my AGP 4X option and my system suddenly stopped running games with crashes and instability after I set to AGP 4X. I have a GTS too on a P3V4X. So, to make it work all you did was disable Fast write and Sideband addressing? Also, I can use the detonator drivers on NVidia's website?

OK I have heard ,but cannot confirm if you use the AGP 4x fix with new Detonator drivers it causes problems,what I`ve found out you have to uninstall the 4x AGP fix if you use the latest Detonator drivers,this should make your games run fine.You can download the uninstall patch from same place here .Please give feedback so we can get the real facts on this.

TechKnight: that's all I did was disable both. If I had them enabled, the only problem would be a hard lock- up.

I tried the Det3 drivers(618's) immidiately after getting my new card, since everyone was raving about them initially (this was with 2x enabled). They definitely raised up my bench scores, but I was getting weird lock- ups that I never had before. ( at one point, after a reboot, my system acted like it no longer recognized my new card, and reverted back to the default display adapter- the display resolution looked like it was 100x100- absolutely huge) I switched back to the 532's, and all was back to normal.
The other night, I added a "Bios Savior" chip( allows you to switch between 2 different bios, or gives you a back-up) so that I could try the Beta 1006 for my Asus. For the hell of it, I tried the same reg hack I had tried many times before. To my suprise, after checking it with WCPUID, I saw 4x!! I can only assume it was because of the new bios? I have some major pc work this weekend, so I can't afford to hose my system: otherwise I would try to switch back and forth to get a definite answer.

when i change it to 4x, games won't start n direct draw n direct 3d have problems

the question is, how do i disable the sidebanding on p3v4x ??
i know how to disable the fast write
