Asus P4B266 @ 133mhz FSB?

Can the Asus P4B266 do 133mhz FSB? I guess my real question is does it have a 1/4 divider. I'm really interested in running the P4 1.6A and DDR @ 133mhz. Anyone think that's possible since the normal spec is 100mhz?

I am thinking of ordering one as well...Contact christoph38 and talk to him as he has successfully overclocked with it...

I've got a P4B266 at 160MHz FSB right now with no problems. I'm almost 100% positive it has the proper bus speeds; I have heard that at above 133MHz it 'locks' the PCI and AGP busses at spec, similar to the ABIT TH7II.

W9design,
I'm about ready to buy the p4b266, but can you answer me this:
You're running at 160, is there a way in the bios to run the fsb at 160 and keep the memory at 133?
Thanks

Edit: woohoo post #100

w9design - can you check your PCI bus speed @ 160mhz and maybe 133mhz for me? I think Sandra will tell you this.

w9design - I am also interested to know what your AGP/PCI bus speeds are with the FSB at 160Mhz.

Thanks!

YES it can. With the P4B266 at 133FSB you can set the AGP to 1/2 (66Mhz), PCI to 1/4 (33Mhz) and memory 1:1 (133x2=266DDR=PC2100). So as long as the CPU can handle it, everything else should run in spec. From what I have read the 1.6A has no problem at 133FSB, just might need a little more voltage, and the P4B266 can do that to.

Hope that helps.

Do I have to manually set the dividers or does the mobo do this for me? Is it a failsafe mobo?

I can't find the reading in Sandra. I'm using 2002. anyone know where I can find the (accurate) PCI and AGP bus settings?

EDIT: Also, the memory on the P4B266 using the current BIOSes is limited to 1:1 ratio above 133MHz, or 3:4 and 1:1 at 132MHz and below.

I am not sure about Sandra2002, but I just installed the shareware version of Sandra2001 from here.

I run Sandra2001, double click on Mainboard Information, and then I can find accurate information for FSB Mhz, AGP Mhz, and PCI Mhz. I am currently running a P3 700@800. It shows me 115Mhz FSB, 77Mhz AGP, and 38Mhz PCI. It even gives me the speed multiplier for the PCI bus which is 1/3.

Is Sandra2002 different?

I just installed Sandra2002 Standard and the Memory, AGP, and PCI Mhz speeds are listed under Mainboard Information. However, it did not report my PCI speed correctly. I am currently running at MEM/AGP/PCI 115/77/38 like Sandra2001 showed me. Sandra2002 is reporting 115/77/29 (using 1/4 for PCI when it is actually 1/3). Kind of strange, maybe just limited to an issue with my current motherboard which is an Abit BE6-2 i440BX board.

w9design - Can you look under 'Mainboard Information' and see what Sandra reports for your MEM/AGP/PCI speeds with the FSB at 160Mhz?

Thanks!

Sandra 2001te reports only the bus speed (4x160MHz=640MHz).
Sandra 2002 also reports a memory data rate of 320MHz.

Neither make any mention of PCI or AGP bus speeds. I can take a screenshot if you want me to prove it, but i don't think I need to. The speeds are simply not reported.

Interestingly, sandra reports my core voltage at 0.22V, but agrees with MBM that my idle temp is ~26C. Go figure.

w9design -
Thanks for checking, I appreciate it. I believe you that they are not there, maybe because the P4B266 is such a new motherboard it can't read them. Who knows.

I played around with Sandra a little bit, and when I went into Mainboard Information, there is an options button that brings up a long list of check boxes. I removed some of them and my Bus speed settings went away. If you have a chance, could you please see if all the options are checked?

Thanks,
Jimmy

Everything's checked in the options menu

Anyone know of another way (other than an oscilloscope) that will accurately tell me the PCI/AGP speeds?

I was just looking through the manual, and it lists the following FSB/AGP/PCI settings for the on-board jumper:
100/67/33
105/70/35
111/74/37
120/80/40
120/60/30
125/62/31
133/66/33

So based on that for AGP we have either 2/3 or 1/2 and for PCI we have either 1/3 or 1/4. I have no idea if there are any other settings, or any kind of 66/33 lock, but if we assume these are the only other settings then the following would be true:
140/70/35
150/75/37.5
160/80/40

I'm inclined to believe the PCI and AGP busses are locked at spec (like the abit th7II), because I'm relatively sure my all-in-wonder radeon wouldn't tolerate that speed. I'm running an Intel Pro/100+ NIC and an ADS FireWire card as well in the PCI bus; both work flawlessly.

However my USB1.1 ports are screwed at POST time, my intellimouse explorer flashes on and off and the system doesn't progress past the boot logo. The keyboard, also USB, is not working either. However, if they're plugged into the PS2 ports the system boots fine. Then, if I plug them back into USB in windows, they're working flawlessly. It doesn't make sense. I might try to flash the BIOS to see if it's a corrected issue. Or it could be a bus speed issue. I have no idea.

I hope that you are correct, that would be sweet if they were indeed locked at 66/33. I am going to search to see if I can find any other utility to report AGP/PCI bus speeds from within windows.

Has anyone used the onboard 5.1 sound. A friend got the board and a 1.6 and wanted to use the onboard 5.1. There is only pins on the board for the 5.1 part. Is there some sort of addon adapter you have to buy? If there is what is it called?

I'm using the onboard sound now -- it sounds great.

For analog output, you can remap the line-in and mic ports to be used for rear and center/bass channels. The P4B266 also includes SPDIF digital coaxial output via a bundled module.

I've ordered this board and it will be here next week.
I've also got a Northwood 1.8A sitting next to me right now

I want to set my P4B266 to 133MHz FSB using the onboard jumper. Will this jumper take care of everything? I'm concerned it will simply increase the FSB without increasing the voltage too, causing certain instability.. ?
I hear there is an "OVERVOLT" jumper on the board as well, maybe if i set the jumper to 133mhz FSB and enable this Overvolt jumper it will ensure stability?

Thanks for any replies!
