I decided on the P4B266 Retail and so far it has been great. I was having a tough time deciding between the 2 boards as well but the addition of the USB 2.0 and stability many report with the Intel chipset is what was the deciding factor. Funny thing was as soon as I turned on the board for the first time, it was already set at 2133 with the 1.6a cpu. I have not gone higher yet but it is 100% stable at 133 at default voltages

I was deliberating back and forth for a while, and finally decided to go with the P4S333. I came to the conclusion that you cannot go wrong with either one of these boards. There are people all over praising both boards for O/C potential and stability, so in the end, it was just a tossup for me. I went with the P4S because it was cheaper.

I bought my retail P4B266 from Fry's here in So Cal. It was $159.00 and if I got a dead board, it would be easy to return. Mine came with the 1003 Bios. Just punched up the fsb to 140 and seems stable so far. The cpu is still at 1.5 (default voltage) and the memory is also at default.

Yea....Either would be great I am sure. Tuff for me to debate weather the USB 2.0 and extra DIMM slot is worth the extra coin. I have gone back and forth many times....Still not positive. Thanks again all.

Even though there are 3 Ram slots on the retail P4B266, only 2 are usable with double sided ram. It is doubtful that you will find any single sided ram so just think of the retail as having 2 slots. As for USB 2.0, I would rather have a bracket that plugs into my mb rather than eat up a PCI slot that could cause conflicts during an o/c. When I priced the USB 2.0 PCI cards, they were all over $30, so the price came out the same as the retail board. I was doing some o/c testing last night and was able to hit 150 fsb on default cpu and ram voltages and ran through a bunch of Q3A, Elite Force, Sisoft Sandra, and 3DMark 2001SE benchmark tests that I will be posting on my website.

After reading this thread I took the plunge, Asus P4S333 & a P4 1.6A... Sofar not good though, board won't post, no beeps, nothing. Oh well, hopefully it's just a matter of trying another board. For the time being I have the 1.6A with AS2 applied waiting for the replacement in 2 days, I was really geared up to try this rig today though, switched everything back to my previous machine .

Anyone know how the Malayasia SL668 chips overclock? Date is L147 (2001, week 47 I assume), hoping to hit around 2.4GHz with PC2700 DDR, what's my chances?

Now that Andy has enlightened me, I can ask this: Does the SIS chipset also support HAL and 24 IRQs?

Got my P4B266-C last week and put my new P4 1.6a on it.

I feel like I've won the lottery.

This is the very first computer that I've built (been messing with them for about 12+ years though. I picked up the board, CPU, video card (ATI AIW Radeon 7500), DVD player (Lite-on 16X), case (Evercase 4252 w/300W PS & 2 fans), and audio card (Audigy Platinum).

Incredible! I picked the above up from newegg (see my review in Anandtech's Reseller Ratings!). I added the Logitech Z560 speakers (another wow!) & 512MB of Crucial PC2100 DDR. The rest of the components were added from my old system.

I'm currently running at 2.1 (133X16) with no problems. Ran Sandra and 3D Mark--no problems.

Very nice setup at an excellent price.

If you're still on the fence, it's time to hop off!!

I felt daring today, I dropped the FSB from 144 and the ddr from 1:1 ratio, down to 133fsb and 4:5 ratio and upped the ddr voltage to 2.7.
Runs stable still, gonna try a few more FSB and see what happens

Sofar i'm not too happy with this P4S333 board, got the replacement today & finally got to try a P4 system, everything looked good up until I finallized the recover install of WinXP. As soon as it gets to the pre-logon screen the graphics are garbled, would seem like a video card problem but this card (below) works fine in other machines, it's not overclocked & the P4 is running at 1.6GHz. I'm seeing specs all over the screen now while writing this, machine info is the same as below except the P4S333 & a P4 1.6A. Anyone?

With all this time on my hands saving $ for new system I am at another delima. Here is the question: Asus P4B266 w/ 512mb of Crucial PC2100 ddr or Asus P4S333 w/ 512mb or Corsair ddr ram. Let me know what you all think. Price is similar on the 2 setups. Thanks a bunch

If you don't have ddr already, I say buy a RDRAM mobo, either Abit Th7-2 or Asus P4T-E and samsung RDRAM. It will outperform the ddr boards even when it is not overclocked as much.

Really....had not looked too close at the RD boards that much since the P4B266 and P4S333 were kicking so much a$$.

Night Blade: I would try formatting and doing a fresh install of Windows XP. I tried to do the recovery first too and had all kinds of problems. After I formatted and did a fresh install everything was fine. Good luck.

My P4B266 is running with 2 256 meg sticks of Crucial PC2100. I got these a while back when they were still cheap and they run at cas 2, 150 fsb no problem. They have micron chips on them. I got a 3rd stick of Crucial from Best Buy when they had them for $25 but since you can only use 2 sticks of double sided ram in the P4B266, it is going to be put in my old setup that I am selling. Not sure if it is Microns cas rating but in the top right corner of the 2 sticks from Crucial direct they say 2-2, the one from Best Buy says 4-2.

I put together a P4S333 setup with a 1.6a back on wednesday. So far I'm impressed with it. I can get it to run stable so far set at 140FSB with a 4:5 ratio. I guess the memory is running at 350, while the cpu is at 2.24 GHz. If I go up one past 140 on the FSB it will not boot up, atleast it won't turn on the video. Also running at the current settings, if I reboot, it won't unless I press the reset button. It says something about the memory failing post test. Is it possible to set the fsb bus up to 166 and keep a 1:1 ratio therefore causing less stress on the memory and more on the CPU.

I believe you can set the FSB and DDR at a 1:1 ratio and up the FSB all the way to 166..just depends on the PCI bus and if it can handle it as well as the CPU

I got the P4S333 stable afterall, & I didn't need to do a full re-install of WinXP thank god. I jumped the gun in blaming the board for the video problems, the video problems were due to the video card of course, tried a Radeon 8500 & everything was running smooth. A few days ago I switched out the P4S333 for the P4B266-C, wanted to see if the Turbo 1 option would help with optaining a higher clock, no go but this board is running as smooth as the P4S333 at 140FSB at default voltage. This 1.6A will boot at 2.4GHz but won't pass Prime95 regardless of what voltage I try, can't complain though, at 2.2GHz @ 1.5v i'm happy.
