I just received my new ASUS P4B533-E, P4 1.6A and Corsair XMS 3000C2 512MB.
My 1.6a has a pack date of 5/6/2002 batch L211A896.
I'll install tonight and start climbing the OC ladder ... doubt I'll reach Thug's godlike height but one never knows!

Could you check to see if the P4B533-E allows the 3:4 mem ratio above 132 FSB? I'd like to see how that 1.6A does as well.

Yes, please do keep us updated. I am planning on buying pretty much well the exact same gear, so it would be great to have some hands-on feedback on it.

gpanda gluck to ya.
im very curious at to how well that board does. it got the correct support, just gotta see if it performs. you got a May CPU .....OOOOooooo, thats gonna be interesting too, being so new.
and fill us in on all the memory ratios ASAFP!

Didn't have much time last night after installing H/W and loading OS, patches, etc.
Runs fine at defaults.
CPU memory ratio options change from 3:4 at 132FSB to 4:3 at 133FSB when flipping thru bios.
I quickly set memory to 222 and FSB to 133 this morning (all I had time for) and ran the audigy install with no issues. All other bios options were default or auto. CPU-Z reported 360MHz DDR. That would seem to indicate a 3:4 CPU:MEM ratio despite what I said earlier. This was auto ratio. I investigate more tonight. I'm running 1004E bios.

I'll keep a log with settings, temps, benchies, etc. as time goes on. I'm hoping that the UT2003 bench mark comes out this week since that would be a great real world 'state of the art' gaming benchy.

So far so good.

Now, if I could only get my wife and kid and job to understand that the only thing important in my life right now is this P4

Well said. I've been holding back on my upgrade (i850E) due to memory and this exact reason. I hope I can take a day or two just to play once I find the right RDRAM.

Good Luck!

I'm starting to piddle around.
I don't understand the cpu memory ratios or else the cpu-z program.

When I have fsb of 133 I get the following:

CPU:MEM at auto or 1:1 cpu-z reports 359MHz memory timings
CPU:MEM at 4:3 cpu-z reports 269MHz memory timings

Wouldn't my DDR rate be 266MHz at 1:1? Am I not understanding cpu-z?

Doesn't seem right. @ 133 you should have
1:1 = 266 (ASUS usually runs 133 as 134 so 269 is understandable)
4:5 = 333
3:4 = 355

1st O/C results
FSB 133, CPU:MEM ratio 1:1
temperatures 21 ambient and 33 CPU with prime95...cpu was 21 when idle
Sandra memory int-2039 float-2033

The 359 is well within tolerances for reporting...so I think it is likely a 3:4 timing...

Check asus boards at other sites to see if there is a reporting bug with the program....

What are your sandra mem scores like??? if it is 359mhz ddr and with your 1.6@2.133 with 133fsb it should be 2400's...if it was 266 it would likley be 2100's...

It might be a bug in the bios....
I am now running at FSB of 150 with CPU:MEM ration of 1:1 (supposedly)
cpu-z reports 400MHz sandra int is 2280
Am failing prime95 torture test...may need to up voltage on ram or cpu.

It's an 845E..never mind abiut the 4:5
With a 133 (134 actual) FSB
1:1 = 269
3:4 = 358

Looks like you are running 3:4. See if you can still run 3:4 as you go up in FSB.

Running DDR400 you may have to back down your mem timings. You should be getting ~ 3000+ Sandra memory bench.

once again the 400 at 150fsb would suggest a 3:4 ratio....However a 1.6@2.4 with a 150fsb (600fsb bus) and 400mhz ddr should yoeld considerably higher then that in sandra memory benchmarks...right Oldfart????

Oldfart,

My P4B533 does not support 3:4 at speeds at or higher than 133. The i845E is essentially the i845D with ICH4.

Bummer. What is up with ASUS? That is the reason I didn't get the P4B266. I wonder if the ASUS 845G will have the same problem.

In the bios when you hit 133 your cpu:mem ratio option goes from 3:4 to 4:3. Might be a bug though. I wonder how cpu-z gets it's info. It might be off base.
I am at 140FSB with 222 mem settings and and 'bios' CPU:MEM set to 1:1. My sandra is only 2093. cpu-z reports 373 but I think that must be wrong and I'm running at something different. I'll put together a table and see what it adds up to based on other sandra readings out there.

its the Asus P4B533-V board that uses the i845G chipset. it has full support for DDR333.

of course that aint gonna matter if he makes it to 166fsb

Total bummer man. I don't think they added it because, it is not officially supported. The Asus i845G probably does support the 3:4 and 4:5 as they are officially supported.

I'm kinda choked I didn't get the Asus i845G version. I would have saved $20 Canadian and got an extra %5 performance. I thought the G was a budget chipset since it had integrated graphics.

O well, I think the dual channel DDR chipsets will make this round looks pretty pointless anyways.

Its weird. CPU-Z seems to give you the right info, but benches say otherwise. What does Sandra say about the mem speed? Look Here to see how it reads my DDR400 setup.

Sandra reports my memory as being 226Mhz, but I don't think that's possible as I am runnind Cas2, and my scores are around the high 2500's.

Also, another strange thing is Tom's original article that had the i845E as Future chipset 1 and i845G and Future chipset 2, showed that the Future Chipset 2 performed better at the same clock as the Chipset 1, however in Tom's latest article, it showed them performing around the same. What's up with that? Anand's shows the i845G as a better performer at equal clock speed. Very strange indeed.
