Just ran the following at FSB of 133 CL2 mem
CPU:MEM 1:1 cpu-z reporting 359MHz Sandra gets 2045 int
CPU:MEM 4:3 cpu-z reporting 269MHz Sandra gets 1509 int
Too tired to do anything else. I'm going to bed and will try to figure this out later.

I've come to the conclusion that the bios is correct and that cpu-z is just plain wrong. I was hoping that I could use cpu-z to double check the sanity of my ratio figures. Is there any other way for me to get the current true memory settings?

For 133 FSB 1:1 DDR266 ~ 2000 in Sandra mem bench is about right. What the heck is 1509? Do you have a 3:4 and a 4:3? the 4:3 setting looks like it is cutting down the mem speed 133 FSB x 2 x .75 = 200 DDR instead out multiplying it 133 x 2 x 1.333 = DDR355. Honestly, I would not be very happy with that board. Can you return it? There are plenty of boards out there that will allow 3:4. If it is like the P4B266, you should be able to run 132 FSB and 3:4 for a ~ DDR350 speed.

I'm currently running at FSB of 150 with CPU:MEM of 1:1. Case/CPU temps are 21/35. CPU voltage is 1.6v. 12v shows to be about 11.8v. I tried, rather quickly, to run at 166FSB with 1.7v core voltage but it failed prime95 very quickly. I'll do some more work this weekend. Meantime I'll burn in at 150. Doesn't look like temperature is an issue yet.

Oldfart: I'm beginning to see what you are getting at with the ratios. I have a DIMM which can do 222 at 166MHz at normal voltages from Corsair and I'll bet it would go at least 185MHz at that with a little voltage. BUT, if I can't get my CPU high enough I won't be able to take advantage of it with the ASUS board. I bought from googlegear. I'll have to check their return policies. Maybe I'll just build a second machine and set this one up for my 2 year old

Newegg has the Epox EP-4G4a+. I am thinking about ordering and maybe returning my Asus due to the ratio issue.

I ordered the Epox board. The best I've been able to overclock the ASUS at 1.7v was 152FSB. That only pushes my DDR to 304. The Epox board looks to have better ratios so even if it doesn't let me up past 150 i'll get better DDR (400). Crucial tests that RAM at 233 at 370DDR so I know I could do that at 138FSB. But, overclocking the RAM might push me close to 400DDR at 222 which would be the ultimate. I think that the Epox might even allow me to push the FSB better than 150 in which case a 1:1 CPU:MEM might be all that is needed. Either way, I will be better off. I hope to receive the board Monday or Tuesday. Don't know if fedex delivers on Memorial Day.

cas settings on most i845 boards dont work.

im curious as to weather setting cas222 actually does anything on your board at all.
you might wanna do some more homework before swapping out moboards.

The guys @ [ H ] forums are not having the best luck with the 4G4A+. Does not seem to be a great overclocker. Look Here. I hope yours works out better for you. Let us know.

heya oldfart - sorry to ask you a Q in someone elses thread but....

does the cas settings on your epox i845 actually do anything?
have you tested it for sure?
so far not 1 i845 board has functional Cas settings

Yeah, they do (I think). I can run a few quick tests if ya want. I cant do cas2 @ 400DDR (not if I want to boot up anyway), but LMK what tests you want to see. I can run a few Q3 benches or whatever.

sandra memtest is all ya need to do.

1:1 ratio will be fine.
please test cas2/2/2 and cas 2.5/3/3 - thx

Oldfart: Interesting...I went by the vr-zone.com review which seemed favorable. Can't win it seems.
Thugsrook: I'll do some quick testing here shortly with SPD vs 222 at the my current 150FSB / 300DDR and let you know the results.

I may go ahead and push my voltage past 1.7 with the overvolt jumper and see where I get as well.

Here are the results of my memory tests:

150MHz FSB Memory settings at 2225
Sandra Memory Bandwidth (2 runs)
1) 2255
2) 2258
3DMark2001SE: 10797
150MHz FSB Memory settings of 2336
Sandra Memory Bandwidth (2 runs)
1) 2249
2) 2236
3DMark2001SE: 10529

Definitely a difference...3D went up 260 points.

I just ran a few more tests. Since the 3:4 CPU:MEM ratio switches wot 4:3 at 133FSB I set the FSB at 132 which gives me a 352DDR RAM. Just wanted to see the effects. Compared to my previous test this favors memory bandwidth over CPU.

132FSB, 352DDR RAM

2.5 3 3 7 Memory Timing (SPD)
2646 and 2626 Sandra Mem (Int) 2 runs
3DMark not run

2 2 2 5 Memory Timing (Manual) [had to boost SDRAM voltage to 2.7 volts]
2679 and 2659 Sandra Mem (Int) 2 runs
3DMark2001SE 10497

The 150FSB with 300DDR SDRAM (2225) gave us 10529 so I in effect lost 32 points...not much diff.

I'm going to try and boost CPU core voltage to 1.75 now and see how high I can go with FSB.

The poor performance on the 845G oc (that oldfart referenced in his link) must be due to the Epox board since I've read at least three reviews showing that the 845G beats everything out there except RDRAM 1066 setups.

i suggest u pick up an ultra cheap sis 645 dx chipset. they are great ocers, and the gigabyte srx one has the most tweaking options i've seen in a bios to date. Plus you can just upgrade to a newer mobo a couple months down the line knowing u paid very little for such good performance.

I just ran some test to see if the 1.5 CAS setting the ASUS P4B533-E made any diff when compared to 2CAS. The results were odd. 3DMark2001SE gave about 25 points slower for the 1.5 setting. I ran each CAS a couple of times to make sure. Very odd.

Need some advice:

When I set the Vcore to 1.7 I get a couple of problems. I can run everything OK at 155FSB but at 160FSB I get drop outs from prime95 and 3dmark. I noticed that when the system is idle the ASUS PC Probe S/W shows Vcore to be 1.776 but when the prime95 is run it drops to 1.68 or so. I also noticed that the +12v line drops from 11.904 to 11.7 or so. Does this indicate a Power Supply problem? I current use an iCute 450Watt.
Another problem I have is that at 1.7 Vcore I get periodic system speaker beeps. The more I crank the Vcore the more it beeps. When at 1.8 Vcore the system speaker is doing a continuous 2 tone warble (eeeeeEEEEEeeeeeEEEE). It does stop when the CPU is under load. Also a PSU issue?

I thought the iCute was supposed to be good but it may not be that great after all.

If I were to upgrade I'll choose between the Antec True power 550 watt or the Enermax 550 watt model. Still trying to figure out which one is better. Can't find a side by side comparison yet.

I just bought an Antec Truepower 550. CompUSA had them so I said, what the hey. Worth a shot. I'll also plug in the EZ plug since Thugsrook has had better luck with that from what I understand. I'll also not use all the built in fan headers to reduce the amount of current flowing through the motherboard. Just the CPU HSF and maybe the PSU fan monitor since it doesn't appear to draw current just monitor.

OK, I've about finished.
I'm running with the Antec 550 which did stabilize the voltage.
Here is a brief synopsis of what I am running:
CPU Pentium IV 1.6A running with FSB 160MHz RAM (Corsair 512MB XMS3000C2) is running at 320DDR with 2225 timings. CPU Vcore is 1.8volts.
Graphics Card is a PNY Ti4400 O/C. Processor 300MHz and RAM at 620MHz. Power supply is an Antec Truepower 550. Stock CPU HSF with Artice SIlver 3.
The system speaker beeps continuosly at a vcore of 1.7 volts or higher so it is now ben unplugged. Other than that everything is very stable.
Temps. MB 29, CPU 30 idle. Under load MB 31, CPU 51.
I got a 3DMark2001SE of 11711 which isn't too shabby. If I had a Ti4600 card O/Ced I'll bet I'ld get the 12K range easy. 3DMark2001SE
The ASUS P4B533-E I am using is a sweet stable board. The main complaints at this point are the lack of 3:4 and 4:5 memory timings and that strange beeping that won't stop. The beeping seems to be a MB alarm for the voltage that can't be turned off.

I was able to run at 163FSB but backed down a bit.
Not Thugsrook heights but I'm satisfied.
