im now running Corsair Twin XMS3200LL PT ram. (true 5ns pc3200 ~ purchased from newegg)

this stuff runs really nice on this board, and on only 2.5v.
(low vdimm is very important to me)
obviously i dont have mem ratios to debug these sticks, but the info i did gather was enough to replace my "infamous" white label XMS3000 :Q

(running 358dcddr cas2226-1T 2.5v ~ cas2225-1T takes 2.7v ~ these sticks are rated for 2.7v)

26+ full loops Memtest86 stable.
5+ hours Prime95 stable
15+ hours DivX encoding stable
no compatability problems what so ever

good stuff

im about to give up on my p4g8x-d and 9700 pro, the two just arent working together and ive been reading everything under the sun to try and figure out what to do

i,
- used Mr Steveo's XP install guide to the letter (http://www.asusboards.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34558) (several times before i read about the write combing/fast write issues)
- disabled write combining
- disabled fast writes
- ran 128 apeture instead of 256
- ran near every combination of settings i can think of (after reading up on the problem and not having any luck there)

nothin seems to work though, i got random crashes and lockups and reboots...updated by bios to 1004 and it seemed to work for a day, then i froze up in Morrowind and now it auto-restarts once i boot up into windows

*pulls hair out*

i dont like giving up on things, but im reaching the end of my rope and the extent of my newbie skills

/thinking of caving in to a p4c800-d

Ok, first off, are you running your hardware at default settings? What I mean by this, is no overclocking of the cpu/ram/gpu? Try raising the VAGP to 1.6 or 1.7 and see if that solves your crashing issue.

Secondly, what power supply are you using?

Thirdly, what is the part number of your video card in reference to this image. Image Link If you have a PN ending with 1-1, then you definately will need to disable Fastwrites under the ATI control panel under SmartGart tab.

Good luck.

4x memory on a P4G8X?

using 4x512mb Kingston HyperX 3000 modules rated cas 22261 2.5v @ 370ddr
Memtest86 ~ 11 tests 1 loop

cas 2.0-2-2-6-1 inf 2.5v = upto 169fsb
cas 2.5-3-3-7-1 inf 2.7v = upto 169fsb
cas 2.0-2-2-6-2 inf 2.5v = upto 180fsb (my current limit)

sorry, i didnt bother trying cas5
2.7v got me nothing
turbo couldnt run with 4 sticks past 169fsb
im pretty sure this is a moboard limitation since all 4 sticks work perfectly w/ turbo on in single pairs @ 180fsb.

BTW: Kingston HyperX is some very good ram

So I finally gave up my P4B533-V in favor of the P4G8X and results are below.

System=
Asus 9280 Geforce 4 4200 AGP 8x @285/590 @1.6v
2-256 Corsair 3200LL DDL @ 222-6 @2.6v
P-4 2.4 SL6RZ@ 1.550v

Max stable fsb with 5 hours Prime 95

P4B533-V=175 =3150
P4G8X= 184 =3312

Sandra Mem

P4B533-V= 3289 @ 4-5 ratio
P4g8X= 4579 @ 1-1

3dmark2001

P4B533-V = 13812
P4G8X = 15132

Thugs,thanks to all your hard work,it made setup a breeze.I'm good for a few months

put both sticks in the slots farthest from the cpu.

from left to right ~ that would be slots 3 and 4.

Im only aboe to get 185fsb stable in Prime..vcore didnt help, looser ram timings didnt help.

Anyone read on the Mushkin site, under DDR mainboards tested page, that they say the DDR voltage isnt working?

Yeah, I read elsewhere that the vdimm adjustments do not work on this motherboard as well. The vdimm is constantly at 2.7v regardless of what is set in the bios.

After trying a P4P800 with my 2.4b chip, I am going back to my P4G8X. After running benchmarks, they are about dead even, yet the P4P800 is so picky about RAM I had to clock my chip down from 185 FSB to 160 just to get it stable.

You won't find any difference using a 2.4B cpu on either boards.

Thugs:
Yep...tried the 1006, then the 1007...didn't make any difference.

Thor:
You're right, no difference in benchies, just a huge difference in O'clocking. Maybe a bad board...?
