Hmm, the P4P800 ran the same as my P4G8X at 1:1 same memory, same cpu. Was a 2.53B. Maybe you do have a bad, or the P4P800 is less forgiving. Double check your ram timings, and try and get your memory out of the equation by relaxing them. Then see if you can reach 185fsb again on the new board.

(Woot! 400th post on this thread!)

I went through 3 P4G8X's to get a good one. Unfortunately, this has been the norm for my last 3 or 4 board choices. Maybe I should have somebody else pick them

Maybe you should find a new supplier.

I have a p4g8x-d with 2.533 with 2 geil 512 3500 433 ultra memory, ati 9700, 2-120 8mb western dig. running tandoms. I was wondering when you raise the fsb to 182. What kind of cooling you are using and what are the voltage set at

I believe his Vcore was at default (1.525) and the cooling was an Alpha 8942 heatsink and 80mm fan..forget the name of it though...

Just tried the latest bios (1006g) and lost 217 points in 3DMark 2001 SE compared to the 1005g bios. Anyone else getting the same results?

cheers

Hey Thugs, long time no see since you deserted us P4G8X-D:ers
Seriously though, I read through your P4P800 thread over on that other board and it does seem like a tasty board, but I'm still not convinced I need to upgrade. Might consider it in September if Intel's schedule works out.

QA
No I'm not using the hacked x86 bios. I went to check if there was a 1006 version out but the latest one was 1005, I might downgrade to that if it's worth it? I scoped out the boards there but I don't understand french that well to find out if there are any problems running it or not. I did spot some "probleme"' named threads though. I know it'll allow me to set sweet mem timings along with bumping up the FSB, which would of course be nice, but I'm a coward right now since I don't have a replacement board available at the moment if things go .... bad.

I've done some testing and decided to run my 2.66 at 2.66 and yank the mem timings to 2-2-2-5 which seems to be working fine and stable. 3D Mark 2001 SE hands me 14953 as a score (14451 with 2-3-3-6). These are two regular Corsair XMS PC2700 256MB C2 sticks though. Sadly single sided, which I found out recently is pretty much regular practice on 256MB sticks.

Would you advice me to try the 1005 x86 bios out?

cheers mate

try the 1004 x86 ~ it was faster then the 1005 for me.

AFAIK the x86 bioses are as good as the Asus bios files.
he did a very good job of not introducing any new problems.

go for 1004 and dive into some OCing

* for 533fsb cpus ~ i suggest the IC7 over the p4p800

Man, I just had time to grab a cup from the kitchen, come back and refresh and you'd already answered

Okay, I'll try out the 1004 x86 one and see what happens. I haven't tweaked the bios properly (except for the mem timings, and, thanks to your P4P800 thread, the Delay Transaction) for some time now, it'll be fun to get back to work again!

By the way, do these new 865PE and 875P have the same problems with the ATI 9700 like the E7205? Or did Intel fix that this time around? I've been drooling over the specs on the ABIT MAX3 for a while now. It isn't out yet is it?

cheers

yes ~ some of the 865/875 boards still have some minor problems with some ATI cards.

the p4g8x doesnt really have much to play with in the bios.
just make sure you have turbo on and the cas as low as possible.

i dont think max3 is out yet, at least not available to buy.
if you like playing with bios options the ic7 is for you.
there are more options on these (ic7) boards then any other motherboard youve ever seen ~ especially for 533 chip OCers.

It's a shame though that the P4G8X-D can't run my 2.8c at 2800mhz I can only get it to 184fsb. has anyone got theirs any higher than that?

I'm running the Tweak bios final.

Did you ever had any problems with the 9700 Pro card like "thread stuck in device driver"?

wow........you dug up an old thread

To answer your question, I had two different 9700pro's when I owned my P4G8X and had problems with both of them. The chipset just doesn't like the 9700's, especially the older revision 9700's. Make sure you have AGP set to 4X in bios and turn off "fast writes" in the ATI control panel, it may work ok then.
