Guys, need your advice, if you please:

1) I'm planning to buy Asus P4G8X (not Deluxe) - is there any difference froom Asus P4G8X-D other than this useless (for me @ least) LAN, Sound & stuff? Does the board have the same PCB, and all those ... electronic elements integrated in Asus P4G8X-D? And is there any other reason to spend some more cash on P4G8X-D?

2) If I get 2 DDR400 mem sticks (don't remind me of Mushkin, Corsair and other hi-quality low CL'd stuff - we don't have it in Moscow) - so, if I get some decent DDR400, which guarantees it runs @ CL2.5 - will it be possible to set it as 266 with 2-2-2-5 timings? Or relaxed clock doesn't automatically allow for tense timings?

I believe that the only difference between the plain
and deluxe version is the onboard Gigabit Lan.

Edit: No SATA, IEE1394

just got mine in...ordering proc tomorrow, going to lap it and my hs then go at it. One quick question about the EZ-plug...is it ONLY if you don't have the ATX 12V connected or can you connect both anyway?. Thanks for the help. Also, THUGS...did you do anything to your northbridge?..i popped off the hs and i'm going to AS3 it, but didn't know if you had special cooling on it or not. Thanks again.

cliffa3 ~ i use all 3 power plugs on the board and a fan on the chipset heatsink.

bigtoe ~ im a bit weary of those sata convertors, way too many bad reports

just ordered my p4 2.67 week 27 malay, should be here end of the week...got my p4g8x and lapped the northbridge hs and AS3'd it, doing the same w/proc and swictech mcx hs, going to follow all the tweaks so wonderfully presented in this thread and i'll have results by end of next week.

Does anyone know if the Swiftech MCX4000 or Thermaright SLK-900U heatsink will fit this motherboard? Southbridge heatsink and capacitors appear close to the retention bracket and I just wanted to be sure. tia

isn't that northbrige hs?..and i'm installing my swiftech mcx462-U hs by weeks end, so i'll let you know...but holding it up there (w/o proc, which won't make any diff i don't think) it's fine...tons of room between northbridge hs and it, but it's pretty close to the caps, not touching tho.

ok, got active cooled ram, but the fan on top of it will interfere with the proc hs/f...can i use banks 3 and 4 (or b1 and b2...whatever they call them)...and does that affect performance?..thanks for the help.

Thugs is using bank 3/4 as he mentioned earlier in his thread.

I believe his reason was cooling related.

It does not matter which pair you use, just has to be
one of the two pairs or both.
