ASUS P4P800 Deluxe - Harddrive and Sound Problems

I'm having a great time with this board, running the P4C 2.4 GHz Processor with Crucial RAM and an AGP ASUS V9560 Video Suite Graphics Card with nVidia's FX5600 Chipset. I have been dealing with two problems that need more attention from ASUS. I flashed the Bios with 1.0.0.8 revision and lost the ability to use UDMA Mode 5 on my WD Drive. Benchmarks are saying 30 MB/s transfer and the bios only allows UDMA-2 as the highest option and therefore went from 100 MHz to ATA/33. Tech Support says they will have the fix at the end of the month. What! Issue #2 is the onboard sound. The first two channels (Main Channels) don't work at all. A friend with the same board has the same problem. I installed a Sound Blaster Live! 5.1, tired of dealing with it. Other than that, it's a stable, solid board but I may be buying an Ultra ATA/133 PCI Card to get the drive where it should be.

Anybody have similar problems?

I have the same problem than you with the sound and 1.0.0.8
I tried all kind of speakers and installed different versions of the Soundmax software and still I dont get sound from the main channels (i get sound from the rear channels).
Can anyone know a solution? (i dont want to buy a soundcard).

I honestly don't know the answer. My friend and I bought SoundBlaster Live 5.1's. I've made tech support aware of this and they said they were unsure about the problem and will escalate it to the division in Taiwan. Not sure how much I believe them. We'll see.

But, yes, the rear channel works but no Main channels.

I contacted with ASUS TW but they didnt understand our problem since his answer was:

Dear Customer,
Thanks for choosing ASUS tek.

Please make sure that for 4 channel audio output the correct cable of the 4 speaker system is attached at Line in connector. Please also make sure that the OS
setting(system audio) is set according to the attached speaker system.

I am assuming you have the hard drive connected to one of the main IDE on-board ports and not the VIA controller, and that you are running Windows XP or 2000.

While I was playing around with different settings on the board, I noticed that if the "Enhanced Mode Support On" under the "IDE Configuration" of the BIOS was set to anything other than S-ATA, then the BIOS recognized the hard drive connected to the primary or secondary controller as a DMA 2 hard drive instead of a DMA 5 hard drive. Setting the "Enhanced Mode Support On" to S-ATA (and not P-ATA or P-ATA+S-ATA) made it recognize the hard drive as a UDMA 5 hard drive. Also, make sure that the "Onboard IDE Operation Mode" is set to Enhanced on the same BIOS screen.
