I recently purchased an additional 256meg ddr module to put on this board (kingston pc2100) to go along with an existing samsung 512 pc2700.. the kingston chip was actually going to go in another computer but since the components weren't ready yet (the motherboard i purchased was defective (ECS P4VXASD2+ ..shoulda saw it coming) I was just gonna install it on my system and enjoy the extra 256megs for a few days.

So I installed it and my system wouldn't post and the ASUS post voice error announcer thing told me there was a memory problem. I thought sure.. the pc2100 module probably couldn't handle the 333mhz memory speed and aggressive latency settings so I removed it and proceeded to boot with just the original, 512meg module installed with the intention of easing those settings and bumping down the speed to 266mhz ddr to accomodate the 256mb chip. Now the weirdness begins.. after removing the 256mb module, my computer still refuses to boot with the same error message being played over and over announcing "memory test failed". So now, i reseat the 512 module, try each of the 3 banks, and go as far as to reset the CMOS and manually jumper my board to 100bus/200mhzddr speeds all to no avail. At this point, I'm clueless as to what could have happened. I made no changes whatsoever in installing the additional memory other than disconnecting the power s/w, reset s/w, hd/power led indicator wires which I had to remove to be able to slide out my motherboard for easy access to the memory slots. I consider myself pretty good with troubleshooting hardware and nothing like this has ever happened before. I'm already planning on doing a RMA and possibly buying a refurb'ed board from newegg in the meantime . If someone can offer any suggestions at all, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks
Specs:
Asus P4S333 (SiS645Chipset)
P4 1.6A @ 2.133 (133mhz bus)
Samsung 512ddr pc2700 @ 333mhz ddr

Cant hurt but try to flash the board with the latest BIOS and place the jumpers on default locations.
Then tyr to boot up and set the "halt on" to NONE, maybe that will work

Thanks for the suggestion, but this board won't even POST. Sorry for not being clear, but the ASUS voice diagnostic only plays when theres a problem that prevents the computer from POSTing. I've tried the default jumper settings and know for sure that the memory modules work because I'm using it on my backup computer right now. It seems really weird that the memory controller would just fail like this
