I recently wanted to upgrade from an AMD system to an Intel system. I grew sick of AMD's rating number for the CPU and the fact that they seem stuck at 2GHz and get smoked by Intel in digital media encoding. I do a lot of digital audio and video editing so that's the area I needed a boost at.
The review that AnandTech did on the Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe (here) really impressed me. I had bad experiences with SiS' AMD chipsets but I heard good things about them now. The performance over an 875P motherboard, cost, and all of the features pushed me to get it.
I've had it and a P4 2.8C for over a week and I am VERY impressed. It does indeed overclock quite a bit and it's overclocking options helped me deal with only having DDR333 (some OCZ DDR400 EL is on it's way). The board is stable as a rock as well.
I just wanted to thank the peeps at AnandTech, specifically Wes, for recommending such an excellent board.
