In the process of building a new system and still undecided over p4 or athlon XP (partial to AMD but with the extreme overclockability of the 1.6a and 1.8a might go p4) waiting for these boards to make a decision but only have one week, 2 max before I need to order, will they be out in time (asus said july/august)? Thanks

I just checked their global site and it says the same thing the US site says, available in July/august, without giving an exact date, if there is something else could you post a link, thanks.

I found it - apparently ASUS has two global sites... You need to go to the Asia-english site, and there you can find it:

P4S8X

Shucks, and I had just decide to get the P4B533-E.... hmmm..... How long does it usually take for products to be released in the US after they appear in Japan?

Damn u wingtell u tease. lol. Darth Euro I cant find a link anywhere on your link to buy it. I dont care if i have to order the damn thing from freaking Japan. I need a board so i can get my comp up and running b4 i go back to school. I hope i dont get forced to settle for an It-7 or an sr7-8x which, by the way, is not back in stock at newegg today like it was supposed to be
. Oh well, I hope I can get this soon. If anyone knows, will my cas 2.5 Corsair XMS 3200 run better on this board if its a DX ( is it a DX ?) for DDR -400 or will the board still require overclocking to get up to 400? Should I try to sell it on ebay and get some of the newer stuff? I probly wont but its an option. Anyway thank you all for the posts on the 648 based boards. Hopefuly will be able to get our hands on these things soon.

What I really want to know is will it have Agp pci lock like the intel chipset boards have,If it doesnt have that then I might have to just go get an Epox 4G4A instead.

From Sharkey Extreme:
Pentium 4 Motherboard: ABIT SR7-8X
Current Cost: $108
Months on list: New
Price Change: N/A

In the last edition of our High End PC Buyer's Guide, we had a tough time finding the right mix of features, memory support and overclocking options for our Pentium 4 motherboard. This problem has not been totally alleviated, but at least one company has come to the rescue. The SiS 648 chipset has all the features, performance and overclocking a high-end user could want, but due to the upcoming 648DX, many manufacturers are taking a wait-and-see attitude. This doesn't help much if you need a new system now, but thankfully ABIT has jumped in with their impressive SR7-8X motherboard.

We don't have the time or space for a full review of the board's features, but let's start off with DDR333 (and DDR400 ratios), USB 2.0, AGP 8X (for easy video card upgrading), ATA133, and possibly the killer feature of them all: Fixed AGP/PCI Frequencies. The powerful overclocking features of the SR7-8X cannot be understated, as not only can you lock the AGP/PCI speeds while jacking the FSB and core voltage with abandon, but increase the AGP speed independently as well. In fact, other than having an optional RAID configuration, the SR7-8X comes extremely close to a perfect mix of price and performance.
Linktified

If on-board sound is your thing, the Abit only has 2 channel audio.

The Asus P4S8X has 6 channel audio. I'm waiting for the P4S8X.

Care to expand on that???? I suppose you're referring to the SR7-8X since the P4S8X is only available in Japan............although I'd bet Ingram has it soon............have to log in and check.........anyway, I have the SR7-8X too and while it gave me fits to start..............once I put some time in it, I think the board will be OK! Got it running with my Samsung True DDR-400 now and seems to be stable, running Prime as we speak and want to do a bit more testing, but I think the board just needed tweaking.............
