asus said that it will be released in july/august but there is no reference to it .does it have AGP/PCI lock? Are there any mob using sis648 apart from asus/shuttle.

Wait for the P4s8x...................I got one of the SR7-8X's from NewEgg and I'm not that impressed.................I'm going to keep it and play around with it until the Asus flavor comes out, but, from what I've read about the Asus and what I now know about the Abit.............get the Asus, you'll be happier...........

Just out of curiosity, what about the SR7-8X didn't you like? Anything you could add would be helpful, as I'm trying to figure out which board to get although the firewire and serial ata (i think) on the asus are rather tempting.

When is that Asus P4S8X going to get here.

I like my P4B266-C but it's time for a change.

The only review I see so far is at OCworkbench ---> ASUS P4S8X SiS648 Mainboard Review (1)

I cant wait for part 2 of the review & how well it overclocks.

I think you hit two of the things I want and the Abit doesn't have, plus, and I don't know yet, the board is very new, but, this board just feels flaky to me...............can't really describe it to a tee, but, there are little things which I don't like and it seems oddly unstable for some reason........already had a few freeze ups I never had with my P4S533 and to be honest, I can not detect any speed gains over the P4S533. I'm going to begin O/C'ing it today..................I'm hoping that will go better than the P4S533 did since there are more divider choices and I actually have DDR-400 now.............even though it's not a "standard" Ingram is selling it and NewEgg is slated to have it in today. They said Monday first but changed the date to the 31st so hopefully it will be available today for everyone............

Was it running stable with DDR400? I wanted the P4S8X, but it seems like if there are issues, ASUS is waiting to get them worked out, otherwise you'd think the board would be available by now. I might just go with the older P4S533 becuase I need my system soon.

Wait till the end of this month bro.asus p4s8x is worth the wait.abit sr7-8x is also good i think though still early to tell. *agp/pci lock not sure yet.:disgust:

Begining to here rumors now that the P4S8X, when it finally appears, may actually be a 648DX board.................

Makes sense since the only difference is official DDR400 support. I doubt it is worth the trouble to produce a 648 board when the 648DX will be available in a few weeks.

this whole P4 DDR chipset deal/wait is making me mad..... id go with an athlon, but too slow for the $ (or will be when p4 prices drop sept. 1), and Rambus is too expensive for a p4 chipset (and not expandable or upgradeable, without throwing away old ram)..... i wish they would just come out with a solid DDR333 or DDR400 for the p4 like the KT333 is for the athlon...

....and now im done venting...

If it's a 645dx with AGP/PCI lock, wouldn't iT be OC dream.Otherwise 850e without AGp8x ,845g,I wish intel would hurry up instead of putting revisions of 845,850...:disgust:

the reviews are out, the abit board sucks ass for overclocking. Can't hit over 155 FSB stable. damn what a disappointment, lets see what asus has to offer.

I think what ...to be me....siad was right,looking at the review of p4s8x done by OCworkbench. The Sisoft sandra,3dmark2001se tests shows p4s8x with ddr400,ddr333....,ddr 400 must be after OC i think though not sure.Anyway can't wait to get my hand on P4S8x..
