It looks great except for the one small factor where there are only 2 RIMM slots.. That's an instant turnoff for me... If you only need 2 then it looks good, otherwise......

Well, it's announced 'tho not necessarily available. Still, i think I'll order one as soon as I can. One thing I noticed, in the leaked press release for this board (at xbit) it had Q-fan (or something like that) listed as a feature, an integrated PWM - is conspicuously absent from the official specs on the Asus website. I hope that was just an oversite, I was looking forward to that feature (if it even worked in the first place).

Umm well first of all guys HI... I'm new . However, to get to the point. You guys were saying there were only 2 rimm slots, but if the picture in that link is correct there are 4. Two are next to the cpu and two are below the Northbridge. They split them up to get the rimms closer to the cpu and Northbridge so data would travel faster...sure most of you knew that though .

Q-Fan wil slow your cpu fan down when the chip is running cooler. So if you have a huge heatsink with a loud 7000K fan on it, the fan will only be at it's loudest when the cpu usage is at it's highest. There's a program called speedfan that does the same thing for motherboards that support it. I dont know how good Asus's implementation is. I just read a P4T533 reveiw at T-Break (sorry no link), and they have Q-Fan listed as a feature. And BTW, yes it does have 4 RIMM slots. Now my next question - does it lock the PCI/AGP frequencies?

This motherboard looks like it will be fast but what about the memory?

I couldn't find any pricing for the 1066 MHz memory

Good PC800 *should* be able to do 1066, I don't know when real PC1066 will be availiable but it'll probably be $$$

Ditto what Cloud625 stated...

from the spec page:

<< 4 x 184-pin RIMM Sockets support max. 2GB PC800 / PC1066 ECC* / non-ECC 16 bit RDRAM memory >>

How are you guaranteed to get these sticks to do 1066?

Do you have to have 4ns, 3.5ns or 3.2ns?

Where can I get these at?

Thanks!

PS
This is definitly the i850E board I'm going to get. I just have to figure out the memory and CPU (1.8a is looking good-Price).

There are no guarantee's. I think most people just use Samsung original RDRAM (I don't know the specifics but it's something like you need to get 8 device instead of 16 or something) Me, I'll may just get some Corsair, they're a little more expensive but they usually have really good testing to get the good ones. Although At THG's DDR400 vs. RDRAM article, they have pictures of some Samsung 45ns and 32ns RIMMs, when and where I dunno.

from the prices at that Bangkok site, it seems that this board will be ~$200 (ouch ouch ouch, that hurts).

give me one reason to spend ~$200 on this board if you can get the P4TE from Asus (400 Mhz I850) for ~$130-140 and easily overclock it to >150 FSB (possibly 170 fsb) with fixed PCI/AGP.

i know many of you will spend that much money on it but in my opinion, it is not the best value for your money. I would rather go with the older I850 (if you want the RDRam setup) and overclock it, also the older mobos will be coming down in price even further now.

Thanks

hmm......if it is ~$160...then i am getting one but i dont think that it will be ~160.

the ABIT I845E is $176....so this one(850e) will be little bit higher than the Abit.
seems more like ~190-200 but we will see

would be damn happy if it will be @ ~160 though

Thanks

ATACOM.com has some in stock now. They also have pc800 -4ns 256mb RDRAM for overclocking. Actually, this kind of memory is not often to see. Before pc1066 comimg up, these memory should be good for 533mhz FSB system.
