Posted fine at first with e8400 and one stick 8500 dominator. Error message "overclocking unsuccessful" and no post after reboot. UNplugged power cord, removed battery and enabled clear cmos switch for one hour. Fans and lights are all working with no video signal. I have ran out of options except for a different proc or lower default voltage ram. Should I Just RMA for a new board? What am I leaving out? I don`t have a spare proc or ram stick lying around. Thanks for the help.

Check if it works with the other RAM stick - only one at a time.

EDIT: And if it does, make sure that you set your memory voltage manually.

Then manually set the timings and frequency if needed.

Tried two crucial 6400 sticks and two dominator 8500 sticks all one at a time. Both sets were 2.2 default volt so bought some generic kingston 5300 and same prob. Is there any way to flash newer Bios in current situation without a different proc? I am trying to narrow down the problem. I also bought a 1 gig usb flash drive for that. thanks

Sorry - you need a CPU to flash the BIOS.

Get the cheapest Celeron you can find, and return after the flash it if you can.

Or take it to a computer repair shop and ask them to flash it for you.

this seems to be a big problem for some p5e owners... usually it's the RAM that is the trouble. but if you cannot get it to post with the generic low speed RAM then you might be SOL.

I did not need an older CPU than the e8400 to flash the bios with my p5e, even though it initially said "unknown processor" just FYI.

Check out the ASUS forums, there is a lot of discussion about this.

Initially, board booted fine with the "cpu not recognized, update bios to unleash full potental , F1 to continue" message that I have been reading about. I wish I had flashed to bios 502 then. After some initial, minor, overclocking (no voltage adjustment), I got the reboot with the "overclock unsuccessful, F1,F2" message and after reboot the board would not post, beep, or give video signal even with a pci card. I guess unles someone pulls a rabbit out of a hat, I will be ordering that cheap 43.00 celeron to see if I can get into bios to flash them. I have always been able to recover with a cmos reset untill this pc. Thanks again for all the imput. P.S. Newegg shipped with bios 0203 in late FEB.

Try Unplug,Remove cmos battery for about 10-30 minutes
Then reassemble and plug in and try.

Sounds like the CPU is not making proper contact in the socket. Do you have an aftermarket HSF with a backplate? I had this happen on a P5B-E because I over tightened the HSF backplate causing the board to bend ever so slightly causing the CPU pins to lose contact with the socket.

I would try remounting the CPU and HSf

Well, thats one I have not read about so far, I will loosen the four nuts securing my Swift Apogee GT waterblock and see if this helps.I have an Intel Celeron 420 Conroe-L 1.6GHz LGA 775 35W Single-Core Processor Model BX80557420 coming to see if the bios cpu recognition is the problem also. Asus tech support said no beeps, rma. I rigged a radio shack speaker up and nothing was heard. I guess the thing that throws me the most is that it was working and then it wasnt....no voltage adjustments or funny smells, just no post on a working system. I will know something soon.

Whew. Posted first try with celeron proc. I ordered a case speaker that came same day and it beeps now too. Updated to 0502 bios immediately using the ez-flash option in bios with usb flash drive. No problems there. Thanks for all the good advice.
