ASUS P5K Deluxe - What do you think?

Hi friends!

I am from India. I am going to to build a new PC with Intel E6850 processor
2 * 1 GB 800Mhz DD2 Ram
XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 320Mb XXX (580 Mhz)


What do you think about ASUS P5k Deluxe Motherboard? Is it reliable? Will it run cool?

I know it is super when it comes to performance and efficiency.

What do you guys think about its build and quality?

Can I use it at least Three years without any problems?


I will be using my system for at least 4-5 hours playing graphics intense games....


Everybody's valuable suggestions are expected....

Also tell about could Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R do any better?

Here's a good article rating some hot mobos, including the P5K Deluxe.

I have the P5K vanilla and I love it w/ my e6750. Stable, cool and I've owned several ASUS mobos w/ no problems.

I am not a Pro or Savy in Computer Hardware.

The fact is i dont know a thing about motherboard or its voltages or frequencies...


If I purchase this Motherboard, I am not going to change any settings in the mother board except the Boot device priority.

Will the motherboard work at high performance? OR do i need to do some tweaking in it so as to work with DDR 800 Mhz ( 2X 1gb ) Ram?

If so please tell me what are the steps I should follow..


Also tell me which power supply I should use? A 450 W power supply be enough to keep the system in stable condition? Please keep the fact that I am not going to use my GFX card in SLI mode..

The P5K Deluxe is the best motherboard I've ever owned. Depending on your RAM you may need to set the timing or the voltage manually, it's easy to do.

I generally recommend 500W+ power supplies these days, something like the Corsair 520HX is about as cheap as I would go.

It is a great board, however, many have had issues with it. SATA, Bios flashing, heat issues.

Asus released a newer, updated board, the P5K Premium. You should look @ that one instead.

And, I'm guessing you don't intend to overclock? If this is true, then why spend so much money in a board meant for overclocking?

You could buy the Abit P35 Pro (Premium board with all the features the P5K deluxe / premium have) but cheaper, $180 or so.

Or you could try buying a $130 - $150 board.

Choice is yours. Just make sure to buy it from a good shop that allows returns or exchanges in case you are not happy.

P5Ks run hot due to 8-phase power module. Don't worry about finding a board that can run north of 500MHz FSB. P35 and C2D work best between 430 and 490MHz FSB.
