I am building a new machine and have decided on the new P35 chipset. Further, I am pretty sure that I have narrowed it down to the P5K Deluxe mobo. I can get it currently for $220-$230, but it has not officially released yet. Are the prices expected to drop much in the next week to 10 days or should I go ahead and pull the trigger now and get it while I know I can get it?

Asus P5B-DL is still about 190-200 so it has not dropped much if any. P5K is supposed to be much better OC and faster because of the memory controller according to several tests and reports.

I would suspect that the price will not drop at all, there is a major Intel price cut in July 22 which will increase the demand for P5K DL.

I bit and picked up an Asus P5K Deluxe and couldnt be happier. It's a great board and the extra $40 or so over the P5B Deluxe is well worth it IMO.

Where did you find the new board? I am considering the non-deluxe model.

EDIT:
Found some at ExcaliberPC.

I bought the board from eXtremePCgear.com since they had the best pricing and solid RR. It should be here on Monday.

I don't believe those prices will go down much.
From my experience most boards retain their price for almost their entire shelf life.

Beside if any of the reviews are of any indication, you can actually recoup the extra money you paid for the board when you start overclocking.
Most review says that those P35 boards are rock solid when overclocked at 1333 bus.

no refunds, exchange for exact board only, that's limited and risky.

what after market cooling are you using for this board? I am concerned about those cooper heat pipes cooling the northbridge interfering with my Zalman 9700 LED. Keep me posted after you get it up and running.

I will let you know what I end up with. I have a Titan Amanda TEC cooler on my DS3 now, but I have not been very impressed with it's performance. I will try it out first on the new P35 board, but if it doesn't do better I will replace it with a Tuniq Tower.

sounds good. I am trying to find out from ASUS the height/depth of those 2 copper pipes on the DLX board. NObody knows at this point.

hmm mine is coming from Fremont CA via FEDEX, shipping to Ogden Utah, should be here Wednesday or Thursday. Zalman told me that there shouldn't be an issue as long as you could see the 4 holes for the heat seek fan/bracket to attach to. They say that the fan will clear approx 5 inches. Anandatech has a great picture of the board on the reviews of P35 today so it looks like there won't be a problem, just a few capacitors along the copper pipes.

What board did you upgrade from, What ram are you running? and do you think a Zalman 9700 LED will have any problems attaching to the P5K?

Are you happy with the board/performance?

I tried to check out your MY RIG link but I got a error My AnandTech! System Rigs Area

ERROR: There was no system rig found matching that ID.

What are your specs and what bios version are you running on the P5K, nice E6600 @ 4.0, what batch is your E6600?

I had an Asus P5B deluxe.

I really don't notice any difference with the new board. I just know it's better and that it might support the next 45mm CPU's.

I did managa to get a 500 FSB which I never did with any of my old boards though.

Installation was very simple since I was coming from an asus board anyway and Vista ultimate restarted with no problems (no format here)

Bios 304, CPU Week 30A (running @ 3.6ghz with 1.32V for the summer)
RAM Crucial Ballistix Tracer DDR2 1000mhz

I was just over at XS perusing their forum and one guy got a stable OC of 600+fsb on his ASUS P5K mobo. I didnt look at all his pics but 610fsb was highest I saw. Pretty impressive IMO.

Really? It seems like you're the only one using this combination; which is exactly what i plan to do, too. Can i ask, is the heatsink mounted vertically or horizontally? Would you mind posting a photograph or two or how it's sitting on there? I'm eager to get one, but i want to make sure it'll all fit first. Thank you.

do you have it oriented front-to-back, or top-to-bottom?

If the former, is there any overlap over the "top" edge of the mobo..... i have a PC-A10, wich has a 120mm fan v close to the top of the mobo, with my RD600 i cant have it facing the rear exhaust as it hits the top of the case!

It's sideways, so that the fan pushes air towards the back fan. There is plenti of room.

I might as well add that the Tuniq Tower 120 is also compatible since I just used one with the same P5K deluxe in my brother's RIG. (Putting it together now, same fan orientation)

I'll upload a picture when I have a change...

I've had the P5K Deluxe for about a week now with an Ultra-120 and it fits fine. Great board with the 0304 BIOS. Got it up to 450Mhz very easily but backed it down as it has been heating up where I live so the temps were getting a little high for my tastes. Only gripe is the location of the IDE connector because of my old school IDE DVD burner.

I liked thsi review over at [Hard]Forum:

"The Bottom Line

Don?t take this as ?anti-Intel,? it is just that the P965 chipset that I have in my own system right now is a great product and the P35 seems to be doing little to surpass it even if it is as good a product as the P965 is. The P35 is little more than a P965 with a DDR3 memory controller thrown into the mix that many of us are not going to give a damn about considering how much money we have tied up in DDR2 that performs as good as DDR3 if not better when overclocked. The P35 is currently for system integrators, not for computer enthusiasts.

If you roll your own systems and have rolled in the last year, it is highly likely that X38 will be the next Intel chipset offering to get your attention so save your pennies till then. Considering it will be months before you can affordably purchase DDR3, saving up will likely not be a problem'

Thank you for the confirmation; a picture would be very nice.

So there's nothing on the motherboard which obstructs the HSF, right?

Also, since the CPU socket is quite high on the board, does this meant the cooler overhangs the top edge of the board?

As far as motherboards are concerned, I'd wait at least 2~3 months after launch. NO MATTER WHO SAYS WHAT.

So if you had to buy a motherboard this week, you'd get something other than a P35 board?
