Zardnok and orion23,
Thanks for the replies. By the sound of it the new NB heat pipe is actually working pretty well.
Somehow I think my plain vanilla board will not cool as well as the deluxe but I'll see if I can find a fan to squeeze in there somehow.
In theory with the heat pipe I could put a fan not on the NB but on the upper piece its connected to, the one by the exhaust vent, and it would work even better by blowing the hot air out of the case. My board comes in tomorrow, and can't wait to try it out.

Thanks, I'm going to try and lower my Vcore to see if I can lower the temps slightly. Shooting for 56 ,probably insignificant difference

Hi,

I just finishing building a new system with this board (see tagline). So far I can get my E4400 to 10 X 300 on stock voltages and 9 X 333 as well, but not as stable as the former. I have also noticed the temp readings using PC Probe II are inaccurate (as in reading below ambient). Anyone else have this problem? Additionally, when I manually set my Vcore to 1.3V I see it showing up as 1.24V in both Probe and CPU-Z. Is there something I am missing? Other than these minor issues, it is a huge improvement from my Athlon XP 2600. I could not be happier.....unless I was running @ 7 X 500

Hi all. I just got my P5K. I had to buy something because I'm building a PC for a friend with my used P5W. I wish I had known about the drivers at the ASUS site being corrupt, it would have saved me some grief! As a rule I never put in any CD that comes with any hardware.

Anyway, I wanted to ask this. The back plate of my P5K is a bit off, so the actual motherboard connectors rub against it, and for some USB and other ports the plate even blocks the socket a bit from below (as seen in the picture). It is not well-centered. Is this happening to other people? The case is the same I used with the P5W which fit perfectly. This is what I talk about:

P.S. There is no way to embed a picture here?

I have the same problem. Though it looks like the ports are slightly blocked, the actual plugs connect fine.

Thanks, I don't know if it's good to know or bad. Anyway, I wouldn't have taken the bother to uninstall and return it. I am having some other trouble, though. I did a Windows XP repair, after I switched from P5W Deluxe to P5K Deluxe. It went well enough, but now my USB drives don't show up on My Computer, and they aren't assigned any letters. I can see them in Disk Management, but I can't assign any letters to them. I have tried reinstalling the USB drivers, disconnecting all USB stuff and whatnot. A search on the google didn't yield anything helpful, though lots of people with similar problems with different solutions.

Another thing that is a bit annoying, the P5W BIOS let you disable the Jmicron POST ROM or whatever the name of the message that tells you which drives you have connected at startup is. The P5K has no way of doing this (using 0311). It's not much of a deal, but it takes its few impatient seconds to get away, if you don't press any keys.

And the sound driver is a huge downgrade. I didn't have a P5B Deluxe, but is it safe to assume that the sound driver at least had Dolby Headphone? The P5W not only had that, but also Dolby Live (for what it's worth - not much for me). I can't go back to not using Dolby Headphone! No cheap imitations for me!

The overclock seems to be getting me pretty much the same temps (Thermalright ultra 120 Extreme - I think that's the name?), though now it's much greater because Speedstep works perfectly with manual VCore and high FSB.

Oh well, hope to hear from others about their early issues.

OK, I fixed the USB drive issue. It was Daemon Tools. I just uninstalled it.

The sound driver still sucks. No Dolby Headphone, but only a cheap non-working imitation. And it forces you to load a couple of processes at startup (you can manually get rid of one, the contol panel, but the other is like a runtime that has to be running if you wanna open the control panel at any time.) The Realtek driver didn't force you to do that.

I already have one of the most underrated gadgets ever, the the sweet, sweet, JVC SU-DH1 Dolby Headphone adaptor. I will probably have to get something like the Creative DTS-610 thing to get 5.1 Dolby Headphone again, outside of software solutions like PowerDVD. By the way, anyone knows of any software that will convert the PC's 5.1 stream directly into Dolby Headphone, like the P5W's Realtek sound driver did?

Thanks.
