The copper on the right hand side of this picture (to the right of the cpu socket) I can wiggle up and down pretty substantially. Is this normal?

The other copper (heatpipe cooling) on the board is extremely firm and won't budge at all.

Thanks

It's not "normal," just shoddy workmanship. Your choice, remove it and re-paste and re-install or call ASUS RMA and tell them. If you decide to RMA, ask for a cross-ship and if they have them in stock, they will probably do that. Cross ship is much faster than waiting for them to get your board and repair it and send back. You'll have to give them a credit card number (they won't charge, just in case you don't send your board back within 10 days).

I purchased this item as an open box special from Newegg about 3 weeks ago. Newegg only covers the item for 15 days, do you think ASUS will still RMA the board? Not sure if open box has any warranty implications.

Hmm... I wonder how hard it would be to re-install it.

Re-installing it shouldn't be a problem, maybe like installing a HSF on a CPU. If you remove the mosfet heat sink, you will see the original paste. Just clean it off well from both sides (mosfet and heat sink) and put the heat sink back on the reverse of the way you take it off ( 2 clips, I think I see in your pic).

But, no reason Asus shouldn't do an RMA. The board still has a 3 year warranty with them. They don't ask for your purchase info, they know when the board was sold by it's serial number, I would imagine. Anyway, they'll know when it was built
