In order to get anything nea 3.0 I have to alter either the NB Voltage or the HY Voltage. In Bios these voltages aren't set, it's auto or you have to manually set them. No incrememnting. And without knowing the default voltages it can be slightly dangerous. At any rate, I'm not sure what the issue is but no matter what I set those voltages to there isn't any stability. I can run at 100% CPU load on all 4 cores and not get hot. But I get random reboots. I need to look into the PSU but it doesn't have any problems functioning at 10% oveclocking. Also, the tools that come with the board are messed up. If you install the AI overclocking thing or w/e it overrides what windwos does with the APCI functions. And really screws windows up. No idea what the other dude was talking about Vista bitching about 4Gigs of memory, I had no problems. And if it wanted to boot off the second SATA drive it was because the MBR was there. Or you had that one set in bios. None the less, there are two BIOS updates for this already, not that they did a whole lot. The BIOS update feature is really nice, you can put the .bin update file on a flash drive and it mounts it for you. At any rate, if anyone finds out another solution to getting the q6600 to goto 3.0 and be stable please hit me up. I don't usually do forums so email me at mental@mental-x.net Thanks.

were you able to achieve any sort of overclocking with the q6600 and just can't hit 3.0ghz? or no oc at all?

i'm also afraid to set the NB/SB/HT as i do not know what the default is at to go up from. i'm using a E8400 cpu and i can't even get 1400fsb to stay stable, crashes during 3dmark.

Folks with NV chipsets: When overclocking, try various FSB's in 20MHz (QDR) incremental. Say 1420, 1440, 1460, etc. NV chipsets still suffer from FSB holes. And make sure you give sufficient voltages and COOLING until you find the sweet spot. Once you find that spot, you can try lowering voltages. Oh and try CPU overclocking first before you get to memory. Meaning you set the memory to Linked/Sync Mode/5-5-5-15-2T. That will help understanding your CPU and how the board responds to it.

I have the q6600 up to 2.77Ghz right now stable. Memory is running at 900Mhz. All I had to set for this was the HT Voltage to 1.50 and qdr to 1233. I can't get stable at 3.0 just yet. I get random reboots.

MSI has one out now, the reviewer said he had the Asus one and it crapped out so he picked up the MSI and likes it much better. How do you guys like these so far that you have them? What's the overclocking headroom? I kind of want to pick one up and ditch my 680i and 8800 GTX since I just picked up a 9600GT DIRT CHEAP and I'm thinking of getting another at 150 bucks to SLI. Have a Xeon e3110(e8400) I want to use and oc the crap outa them.

you definitely want to hold off on the P5N-D for now as i haven't heard of anyone able to oc an e8400 with it. so far this board has not been pleasant to oc'ers. at stock settings it's fine and very stable. i really don't want to go through the hassle of replacing it with possibly a p35 board so i'll wait and see if what's going on with this board. for now i'm at stock speeds with the latest bios.

Over at Overclock3d they got the MSI 750i board to oc their q6600 pretty f'in high. I wonder how long till they support the e8400/e3110. I have a brand new in box e3110 sitting next to me and I really would like to pick up an 750i board to put it in want to sli 9600GTs

seem to be more of a problem with oc'ing the e8400 than just oc'ing with the board i guess.

is there another thread on this board or no one is buying this board? compared to the 650i asus board thread this one is totally dead.

I believe that the "thread being dead" is a testament to this motherboard's guality.

There is over 100 NewEgg reviews, so people obviously buy it.

P5N-E SLI has had a lot of issues.

If this MB had had issues, I'm sure that we would have heard about it by now...

See, you are at 3.0GHz with no effort whatsoever (stock).

Over 1 year ago on P5N-E SLI, we had to work hard to get there, or spend ~$1,000 on the X6800...

~3.0GHz seems like the sweet spot for the C2D architecture.

need to update my profile, i'm actually stable at 3.6ghz hehe, no luck with 4.0ghz tho. the e8400 is supposed to hit 4.0ghz easily.

Sorry, I forgot about this board. lol

http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=332437

This is where I got it and gave up.

ASUS P5N-D Motherboard.
q6600 Quade Core 2.4 (G0 Stepping)
4XG.Skill 1024 DDR2-800
2X8600 GT OC

Stable for weeks at 2.92Ghz, ram running perfect at 1010 mhz. Not bad, should be able to go a little higher in another bios revision or two. I just don't have the hours on end to play with it just to give up for the night and not have the PC in the morning for my job. ;/ So I'm stuck as a weekend overclocker for now. lol Running Vista Ultimate 64 Bit also. gl.

I am running my E3110 @ 3.8Ghz @ 1.2V priming as I type this without too much effort. I had major problems from 1400-1500FSB with the board doing weird things, but when I went straight to 1600FSB it smoothed right out. Memory is @ 1000MHz, timings are looser than I'd like, but I plan on messing with that later. I water cool the CPU so I am not sure how much that helps. Load temps using RealTemp are crazy low, 38C is the highest I have seen after 2 hours of Prime. I will post back after 8 hours with a screenie as long as it stays stable. I also used a QX9650 in this board and had little trouble getting 3.8GHz out of that at stock volts. Been a great board for me so far.
