I would love to try out this board but many of the reviews on Newegg say that customers find the PATA ports failing/not working and that it is very sensitive to memory types. Has anyone encountered these problems?

Is there really such thing as a bombproof mobo either...I am considering other P965 boards in this price range, but can find a lot of bad things in the customer reviews also for these...

Gigabyte S3
Gigabyte DS3
ASUS P5B-E

I would consider the extra $ for the 680i but have read up about the SATA problems. I do take those customer reviews with a grain of salt, but they seem like the only non-biased opinion of the product out there.

In short, I am looking to get into overclocking and build a "value" Core 2 system.

Thx

I built my new rig with the ASUS 650i last weekend and have had no troubles since. The board owns. I am running an E6400 @ 3.2GHz completely stable right now with a Zalman 9500. I used Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 because I have always used Crucial and they are on the QVL. Even so, many people have used Corsair and OCZ without any problems.

I'd get the board if I were you. If you search the threads I made a thread with pictures from my install. I haven't noticed any PATA issues. Getting the 650i will hardly make your system a "value system." With the right parts, you could have a monster...

Don't listen to the handful of people crying and complaining about lockups and bad memory... they probably don't know what they are doing... if you really want to be safe, just buy memory listed on the QVL.

Thanks...do you like the Antec Case? Is it loud or does it suck a lot of dust in with all those grilles?

Are you not running a raid array?

I am not planning on a raid array right now...are there problems with the raid drivers?

I have 2 IDE hard disks and 1 sata disk + 2 IDE dvd drives. I have vista ultimate on one of the IDE hard disks. Will this mobo work with such as setup?
